To Lockdown or Not #atozchallenge #inthelockdown

In The Lockdown - To Lockdown or Not and Looking up at the sky

The sky is fascinating.
Looking up at the sky from my window, I saw this.
Such a beautiful cloud formation.
The sky always fills me with wonder.

On March 25th New Zealand went into total lockdown to fight the virus. Only essential services are operating.

There are different opinions on whether there should be a lockdown or not. The basis for that is the question of whether the cure is worse than the disease. There is some unease about the economy post lockdown.

My view is that right now the immediate issue is safeguarding the health of people. Yes there may be economic hardship post lockdown but life is more important than wealth.

I believe that the lockdown is the right path to follow. And perhaps sometime soon when things have improved, some more services could be opened up progressively.  That will help economic recovery.

What are your thoughts? To lockdown or not?

Today's song captures the sentiment of facing this pandeminc together, of helping each other and of saving lives.

There comes a time when we heed a certain call
When the world must come together as one
There are people dying
And it's time to lend a hand to life
The greatest gift of all

We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let's start giving
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day
Just you and me.

I believe that this is a time the world needs to heed this call. So let's gracefully accept decisions of the lockdown and honour it. For we are saving our own lives.

  1. I think lockdown is necessary. This is our 29th day of confinement here in France, and things are not going too bad. Yesterday evening our President said we will be deconfined in one month, the 11th May, schools will reopen. Wait and see...

  2. While the lock down will undoubtedly save lives, the effect of it among vulnerable and lonely folk will certainly cause untimely losses. Who knows the answer?

  3. March 25 India too went into lockdown. And now it's been extended to May 2.
Yes, a price we have to make our future safe. We have no option. '
Amazing the way NZ has faced the situation.

  4. Bill Gates said something about the lock downs that I think is apt. I don't remember the exact quote, but it was something like: Yes, this is really going to hurt the economy, but we can always bring the economy back. What we can't do is bring back the dead.

  5. "We are the world" is one of my favorite songs ever! Look how young they were, look how still alive they were!

Lockdown... I try not to debate about what you can't change. I just feel like if a government orders measures it should be prepared to enforce them. The entire economy is shut down mainly to save people in risk groups, and yet we see many old people out and about, shopping, gathering... and I'm like over there "hey, we do this for you, now get home and use one of the many free of charge services provided by organizations!" Know what I mean?
