January Gratitude ... #GratitudeCircle #MicroblogMondays #MondayMusings #openslather

January has flown by so quickly. It's been a good month and there are many things to be grateful for.

This year I chose nice surprises as my words for the year. I am grateful for the many nice surprises that came my way. But that's a post for another day.

I am grateful for 4 weeks of rest and relaxation. I enjoyed my holidays though I did not go anywhere. It was good to chill at home with the family, good to laze around, wake up late, do some artwork and crafting, read, and watch TV. And it was also good to catch up with friends.

Grateful to my mother for knitting a baby cardigan for a workmate's new born baby. My mum is awesome at knitting. It's her hobby. She also knits for the hospital neo natal intensive care unit and donates her knitted work to them via our local community centre.

pattern my mum is knitting
still a work in progress but should be finished in a couple of days.

and here is the finished product

And last but not least, today I am grateful for the cooler weather. It has been so hot, we've been melting.

Hope your January has been awesome. Share some of your special moments.

Living in Gratitude

September 21 was World Gratitude Day. This post is written for the Write Tribe celebration of the same; Also linking to Alphabet Salad Gratitude linkup #47

Living in gratitude has enhanced my life significantly and most specifically it has brought me many moments of joy.

But those moments have not just come from the big things but the little things too. Like the little birds who feast on my leftover rice and bread. What a waste it would be to throw it all away particularly when so many are starving daily.

Gratitude makes you focus on the positive things in your life. There are so many negative forces surrounding us. When we find gratitude in the little things, we find a multitude of things to be grateful for and inevitably, we shift our minds into a positive frame. We often overlook the obvious like taking a short break and resting. Today I am grateful for the time off from work to rest and relax as these are therapeutic and necessary.

Living in gratitude nourishes your soul and also delights it. So taking a spiritual view in gratitude, today I am grateful for all those who have come into my life even if it was for a short period of time, those who have departed from my path and those who will appear in the future. For it is relationships that are our greatest teachers.

Pictures taken from my facebook page Suzy's Ilation. Drop by and read my other daily thoughts. Grateful that the Universe brought this idea to me as it has taught me many things. Each message that I post has arrived in observing people, nature, and the world around me (real and virtual). Also grateful for those who drop by and encourage me through this experience. Know that you are part of a greater whole. Thank you all.

Wishing you all many blessings.

Gratitude List #40

Linking to Alphabet Salad's Gratitude Linkup #40

Be grateful for random acts of kindness

I meant to post this yesterday but got side tracked into other things and then had to call it a day as it got close to midnight. But will post my gratitude list for yesterday as well.

So many things to be grateful for yesterday revolving around buses:
  • A cheery bus driver with a smiling face and a happy greeting (and the driver today was sullen and impatient - I almost fell down he started the bus so quickly)
  • The bus arriving on time yesterday morning (the bus was 15 mins late today)
  • A random act of kindness - the bus driver waited for me to catch the bus home otherwise I would've had to wait another 1/2 hour at least in the dark. Not something I like doing.

Some other things to be grateful for yesterday:
  • A very warm jacket on a very cold day
  • Lots of support from fellow bloggers
  • Blogspot forum where we can post questions
  • Very grateful for the replies I got on my posted question

And some things to be grateful for today:
  • Glad it wasn't raining when the fire alarm went off at work
  • Glad my new water boiler got installed today - no more worrying if the water will suddenly turn cold in the middle of a shower
  • Glad the plumber fixed my shower as well though it wasn't part of the deal.

I am truly grateful for random acts of kindness.

UBC Jul 18 - Life Is Short

Ultimate Blogging Challenge  and  NaBloPoMo - Day 18

Life is short, don't take it or anything else for granted.

image from my facebook page Suzy's Ilation

Today's post is in memory of all those who perished in the tragic crash of Malaysian Airlines. May their souls be at peace.

Life is short and so unpredictable, don't take it for granted and don't take anything particularly people for granted.

The distant hills in my picture remind me of the impermanent nature of things. I only see them on an absolutely clear day and that is rare. Yet whenever I do it's always a thrill.

Today I reflect in silence on many blessings in my life and I am grateful for life itself.

Wishing you a whole lot of love today and always.

Gratitude List #36

I've missed doing these so getting back to my gratitude lists and linking up with Alphabet Salad's Gratitude list #36

So here is my list for today:

My Daily Thoughts:
  • I started a daily thoughts series on my facebook page Suzy's Ilation 10 days ago and I'm really enjoying this as it gets me to focus on positive thinking. And I've had some nice interactions too.

Timetable Clashes sorted:
  • Grateful that my son's timetable clashes were sorted by his lecturer so he doesn't have to change his subjects. Classic example of when you ask someone politely to resolve an issue, it gets resolved

Travel
  • Thankful that my daughter reached her holiday destination safely and that her partner's house wasn't affected by the floods

Healing
  • Thankful that my mother's leg is getting better

Appreciation
  • Thankful for appreciation on a project well completed
  • Thankful for awards presented by bloggers and that reminds me, I need to do a post on that.

So what are you grateful for today?

I was looking back on my gratitude posts like this one and quite intrigued that they get the lowest page views and comments. Is no one grateful for all the wonderful things in their life or interested in reading someone else's?

Have a great day and hope you all have a lot of things to be grateful for.

Warm Regards

Thankfulness - Gratitude List - Linkup 7

Written for the Alphabet Salad Gratitude Linkup

And Gratitude or Thankfulness also ties in very nicely with the letter T at ABC Wednesday

So here's my list (in no particular order):

1. Thankful that I passed my full driver's license test. Sitting academic tests is easy-peasy but driving tests is a hard task for me. But it went so well and at a point during the test I actually found myself thinking, I'm really enjoying this.

2.  Thankful for a random act of kindness. I got a free cheese scone because they forgot about mine in the toaster, made me wait a long time and then eventually found they burnt it! - So I got a brand new scone, beautifully toasted and my money back.

3. Thankful that I have finally learned to receive. If the cheese scone incident had occurred a year ago, I would've insisted they keep the money. But my word this year "Abundance" had changed my perspective on things. I've finally learned that in receiving we bring joy to the giver. Refusing their kindness robs them of the joy of giving. Abundance also comes in small packages and when we receive graciously we also send a message to the Universe that we are open to receiving. And so the abundance flows!

4. Thankful that the fire alarm at work turned out to be nothing significant. Also thankful I work on one of the lower floors so it's not a long way down to exit the building.

5. Thankful that my daughter and her boyfriend dropped by and cleaned my car.

6. So thankful that my blog has been given awards from some awesome bloggers - but that's a post for another day.

And this quote jumped out at me today

The thankful heart will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings

Write your own list and share it below.

Have a day when the abundance just flows your way.

Gratitude List - Linkup #6

Some days the inspiration just dries up and I move into a blogging hiatus.

Then suddenly things start to show up and I have an epiphany.

So today there were gratitude posts and pages showing up everywhere and something inside told me I needed to get back into my gratitude posts. I did many gratitude series when I started blogging and perhaps it was time to get back into that.

So here is my gratitude list (in no particular order)

1.  Grateful for friends who uplift - I needed that a lot.

2.  Grateful that my work contract got renewed and I was back at work last Monday

3.  Grateful for a sense of humour - helped me get through a difficult moment

4.  Grateful that I had some time to myself today - quiet time is a luxury - a time to sit in silence and reflect

5.  Grateful that all these gratitude posts showed up and inspired me to write again - amazing how the Universe gives you that little unexpected nudge to get things going again.

6.  Grateful that I enjoyed a special birthday with my son (read about it here)

7.  Grateful for lots of hugs - a hug is so therapeutic

8.  Grateful that families of all my Filipino friends are safe.

Sharing a quote that also jumped out at me today

Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it

Reticent Retinue

My 400th post ...

It was a cool Autumn day and Suzy stepped out of her office with a spring in her step. It had been a while since she had taken time off, but now her holidays had begun.

She breezed along the road lost in her thoughts of the upcoming trip and didn't notice that she came to the edge of the busy intersection where the pedestrian lights were clearly indicating that it was unsafe to cross. But her mind was on the holiday and like sheep she was ready to step out along with some other daring pedestrians.

But one thing she didn't know was that they were being watched.

Somewhere behind her she heard the sound of voices "We must stop" rang out loud and clear. Her brain jerked back into the present, into reality and her foot stopped in mid air. Suzy took the step back onto the curb just as the car came hurtling down the road. Her heart was pounding, as if she had stepped forward, the car would have knocked her and sent her flying. She looked heavenward gratefully and sent a silent thank you to the ladies.

~x~

The above is a true story. I might not have been alive today if my loving and divine guides had not been watching over me. I am convinced that my ever watchful guardians made those ladies voice out the words that then jolted me back to the present.

Every moment of our lives we are being watched by our guardians from the other side. They gently take care of us and guide us through life and when we inadvertently put our lives in danger, they swiftly step in and protect us.

Guidance comes to us in so many ways - through music, through the written words, through the spoken word, as thoughts, as visions. And undoubtedly the guidance comes in the most appropriate way as it did that day when all I suddenly heard was "stop" and luckily I did.

I am so grateful for my "reticent retinue" of guardians who watch over and take care of me.

"On their hands they will bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone."
~ Psalm 91:12

Also linking to the letter R at ABC Wednesday - I wrote this post with the letter R in mind only forgot that Q comes before R - had to hold out before I posted. Sigh - one of those days!

UBC 22 - AtoZ - Suzy (me)

Day 22  of the Ultimate Blogging Challenge and the letter  S  for the  AtoZ Blogging Challenge.

S is for ... Suzy (me)

Thought I would share a little about myself today so here goes ...

Suzy is a nickname I had in school that I use as my virtual name. Some of my classmates still call me Suzy. Long story about how I got it.  My real name means "Earth" (as in the planet) in Sanskrit and my Chinese astrology element is also Earth. Maybe that's why I feel so connected to the earth. btw Suzy means "Lily" - I'm all nature!
My brother took great delight in calling me "Mati ben" (Miss Mud) when we were children. He's lucky that I have a great sense of humour.

I love the hills and mountains. There is something very spiritual about mountains. Each morning I sip my tea (chai), watch the hills, listen to some devotional music.   It's so peaceful and very serene.

view of the hills from my window

I love watching sunsets particularly at the beach. There's something very calming about hearing the sound of the ocean. Often when I meditate I close my eyes and imagine myself at the beach watching a spectacular sunset or sunrise, with the waves gently lapping the shore. Meditation nourishes my soul and connects me with Spirit.
sunset over the Arabian Sea

Photography is one of my passions. My love for photography began when I was very young as my dad was an avid amateur photographer. I have no understanding of the techniques of perfect photography, but I constantly remind myself of my dad's words:
"photography is all about composition. your photo should tell your story."

image from google images

I use a Canon S80 camera.  I love Canon cameras.
I share my photos on my photo blog Photos are Fun.

I love poetry. Poems, for me, are the language of love and I am a hopeless romantic. I try to weave my spiritual beliefs and romance into my poems that I share on my blog Reflections Of My Soul. I also love Haiku. One can say so much in so few words. Some of my favourite poets are Rabindranath Tagore, Rumi, and Khalil Gibran. My favourite book is Khalil Gibran's "The Prophet".

Although I love my job and what I do, my passion lies in humanitarian aid work. I believe that this is my calling and someday that is what I will do. During my school days I was a member of the interact club which is the junior arm of the Rotary club. On some Saturdays we visited an orphanage and I loved going there. The children were so beautiful and I loved being with them. The energy there was so high. Perhaps the seeds were sowed then, which reminds me of these words from a Simon and Garfunkel song:

"And the vision that was planted in my brain, still remains"

Now each Saturday morning is spent at the fruit and vegetable market.  It's great to be outdoors in the fresh air and to spend some time with friends.  The market place is so colourful and also has a high energy buzz about it.
Lower Hutt market

I love walking barefoot in the grass in my garden and I love roses.
My favourite colours are blue, yellow and red. I love greens too - colours of nature!
I love ice-cream.
I love food - Indian, Chinese, Italian, Mexican are my favourite.
I love sudoku puzzles and I love to write.
Maths was my favourite subject in school.

"You've Got Mail" is one of my favourite movies and "I Love Lucy" one of my favourite shows.
Tom Hanks, Richard Gere, Audrey Hepburn and Meg Ryan my favourite actors/actresses.
On the Bollywood front I like Salman Khan and I think Waheeda Rehman was the most beautiful actress ever.
The Ramayana is my favourite Indian epic and my Lord Rama is my favourite epic hero.  I never tire of watching the TV serials.
The Beatles are my favourite band and my favourite song is "Spanish Eyes". I've loved this song since I was about 10 years old and I am convinced I have a karmic/spiritual connection with it.

My spiritual quest began about 15 years ago and in this time I have learned that the Universe has a plan all of its own. I have finally succumbed to its force and stopped trying to plan my life, direct it or drive it. Going with the flow has simplified my life and made it infinitely easier and happier.

I look back sometimes and live the beautiful moments that bring a smile to my face and lift me up. I have learned to let go off the bad ones or those that no longer serve any purpose.  I don't think of the future,  and I live my life in the now:

"Following Universe's flow with Bhakti and Shradha"

Bhakti = heartfelt devotion and love for the Divine
Shradha = unconditional, unquestioning, absolute faith in the Divine

Oh btw, my favourite other super hero is Spiderman. I mean how can I not love Spiderman after this!

at Universal Studios LA.

Grateful for the many adventures I've had and the places I've visited,  for all the people who have come into my life and those who have departed and particularly my dear late father who was the best ever, for my children who are my strength and joy, for a benevolent Universe that continues to surprise and amaze me as life progresses, and for my Lord who nourishes my soul.

Have the most spectacular day and please share a little of your life.

UBC 8 - AtoZ - Gratitude

Day 8  of the Ultimate Blogging Challenge and the letter G for the  AtoZ Blogging Challenge

G is for .... Gratitude

In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out.
It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being
We should be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.
~Albert Schweizer

So often we take for granted the benefactors who come our way. Sometimes all they do is just speak kindly to us, or encourage us, hug us or just simply listen.

Over the years so many of these wonderful people have come my way and helped me through troubling times. I am so grateful to all of them. Because of them my inner spirit has been rekindled over and over again.

I am a firm believer that being grateful for all the things that come our way is the way to happiness. That doesn't mean that only good things come our way.

Sometimes it is the difficult moments in life that we need to be most grateful for because they make us sit up and take stock of our life. They are messages from the Universe to alert us that we are straying from our life purpose and they coax us onto our destined path.

When troubling moments arrive, I don't always understand why but I have learned to trust the Universe that   it is always a stepping stone to something better. Over the years I have learned that our attitude to these moments either make or break us and that the bad times don't last forever.

So many people appear on our path to lift us out of the troubling moments and we may not even know who they are.  My blog readers are also my benefactors and more importantly those whose blogs I subscribe to and read provide me with the inspiration I need every moment of the day. I am so grateful for all the wonderful posts that I read everyday.

I wrote this post a long time ago and at that time my post was inspired by Jodi Chapman's post Grateful for an act of Grace.  Thanks Jodi for an inspirational post.

But today's word for the AtoZ challenge was a result of  Caro Ness' poetry post about my blog  and
Vidya Suri's mention of my Fountains post on her blog.

Thank you Caro and Vidya - I am so grateful to both of you for re-kindling my inner spirit today.

Thank you also to all you wonderful people out there who take the time to read my posts and write some awesome comments, and to all of you who inspire me through your posts.

May all those who rekindle our inner spirit, constantly appear on our path.

Warm Regards

Blog Hop - I am grateful for ...

Daphne Steinberg is the host for this week's prompt for The Thursday Writer's Post blog hop.

I came across this poem that sums up what I am grateful for very nicely

For each new morning with its light,

For rest and shelter of the night,

For health and food, for love and friends,

For everything Thy goodness sends.

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

I am also grateful for my wonderful family - for the love and support they give me.

A jumble of many themes or Blogger's Choice.

The last few weeks have been pretty hectic job hunting and hence my blog has been a little neglected.

There have been some great prompts at Blogging for Fun,  GBE2 and The Writers Post  - Gratitude, Solitude, Jane's tale, Interview and Blogger's choice.

So here is my post - a jumble of all these themes or Blogger's Choice.

I believe that Gratitude is a key ingredient in having a joyful, abundant and fulfilling life. So first and foremost I would like to thank this wonderful Universe for bringing an awesome job to me after so many months of searching for one.

I have enjoyed these months (most of the time), doing all the things I wanted to do and just enjoying time with my family, R&R, but there have been days when I've felt low, when the future seemed quite bleak. I was starting to feel quite worried about my finances so it's such a relief.

I am so grateful for the offer that came through last week. Thank You to the Universe and everyone involved in this process.

Isn't it weird, that when you are destined for something, things just flow and they arrive so easily in your life.

In the last 3 months I have been to several interviews.

One was just awful. The interviewers were so confrontational - no interviewing skills there. They tend to forget that the candidate is also assessing them and their organisation. They weren't very good ambassadors for their company.

One went really well but eventually went nowhere. The interviewer didn't even get back to me (*shakes head*). I got the feeling I was their back-up option in case their internal recruitment went awry. Would be nice to have some honesty there. I spent many sleepless nights over this one as I really wanted this role. The project was so interesting. But I guess there was something better lined up for me. (I am still waiting for an answer on this one - too late for them now).

Another interview was great - a nice easy flow but I lost out on a coin toss to someone else. Obviously I wasn't meant to be there.

And then finally, the interviews that were just perfect. I really enjoyed both (for the same job) and I knew as soon as I walked out of there that an offer would come. It's a great offer and I really liked the person I will be working with.

Does this line up with what I want to do (see my post on Work)?  I don't know, all I know is that I had this feeling I had to apply and then things moved so fast - within a week I had 2 interviews and a job offer.

So I will go with the flow and see where it takes me. For now I am so thankful and excited. This will be a fun job.

In the months of R&R I often spent time in solitude, reflecting on my past jobs and what I really wanted. And it's quite uncanny how many blog posts and emails I read regarding meditation for abundance, setting of clear intentions, being open to possibilities, clearing blocks to abundance and manifesting.

So I did them all and actually strangely enough about 10 days ago I got to a place of "okay I've done it all, I feel great and I'm ready for that abundance to start pouring in".

Wow - I am astounded but also very grateful and thankful to all these people. They were, I guess, messengers showing me the way to and preparing me for the next step in my journey. Thank You all.

And now onto Jane's story ... where does she come into this?

Some days ago, Jane got badly cut on her face and had stitches to close up the gash. So how did this happen? Here's the "Tale" ....

Jane has this unexplainable connection to me. Unfortunately every unpleasant emotion that I go through (like anger), Jane goes through as well. And I always forget that whenever I practise my karate and punch and kick those imaginary heads, it's poor Jane that feels the impact - quite significantly.

So in those interviews that upset and frustrated me, out came the imaginary punching bag that had "those" faces on them and when I started punching them in earnest, Jane in her faraway land put her hand to her face and felt the blood pour out of the big gash. Ouch, ouch, ouch. Lucky a nice friend rushed Jane to the ER to get it checked and attended to.

Sorry Jane. Next time I'll say a prayer that an invisible shield (used in the days of Star Trek and Star Wars) magically appears before your face. Take Care Jane. Get well soon. Love and hugs to you.

Thankful Thursday - 18 December

There are so many times our lives when we feel that life is so unfair - everyone you know has everything and you have so little. And then things come along that make you sit up and see all the wonderful things that you have in your life.

This is the first Christmas I will spend when I am unemployed. It depresses me a little. Then I read so many blogs where people are struggling with life, TV interviews or events to help those in need of a handout and then I thank God and realise that I am truly blessed. I have so much.

But the thing that truly drove it home for me was the story of  Rhema Marvanne a young gospel singer who lost her mother to cancer at the tender age of 6. Read her story here.

I share her version of "The Prayer".

Thank God for his Divine Grace and Blessings. Thank God for Christmas. Thank God for constantly reminding me that I have plenty and with faith and trust all will be well.

I wish you all Peace, Love and Joy

Warm Regards
