Outside My Window #WordsMatter

Each morning I look outside my window and sip my cup of chai. It's a peaceful time of day. Even though the scene is the same - the sky, the hills, the houses in the distance, the trees in my garden, the birds flying around - each day is different.

Some days the sky looks stormy, some days clear and bright. Some days you can see all the little details in the hills, some days they disappear in the mist. Each season brings a different hue to the hills and transforms the plants in my garden. There isn't a single day that looks the same.

Nature has taught me that nothing stays the same, the storms will come, the storms will go and the sun will shine again. The trees will bend and sway or remain still, leaves will fall and then grow again, the flowers will bloom, wither away and then bloom again.

Life is like that too. There are ups and downs. Sometimes life looks bright and cheery and sometimes it feels hard and lonely. We must learn to take the good with the bad and know that the bad times won't stay forever.

When life feels like a cloudy sky, I try to remember that the sun just hides behind the clouds and will come shining through.

And as I look outside my window, I am learning to appreciate each changing day because every daily nuance is a new experience.

I am taking part in the #WordsMatter monthly bloghop.  There are 47 of us on this Blog Hop and it will be spread over 3 days – 2, 3, 4 August. Check out some awesome posts at the Frangipani Creative. on this month's prompt "Outside my window".

I received this tag from Rajlakshmi at Destiny's Child and I am passing it on to Roshan at GodYears.

May the storms you weather be small ones. Have an awesome day.

Best Friend Stories #LifeThisWeek #FridayReflections

picture prompt for Friday Reflections

Friends come in many shapes and sizes and there are so many best friend stories tucked away in memory, too many to relate.

But the best way I thought was to dedicate a song to each friend. So here goes.

For V - this is our song "You Got A Friend" by Carole King. We were in standard 10 when V's parents migrated to the US. She gave me a calendar with the words of this song. I still have that calendar in a box somewhere. Even across the miles it's as if there are no miles between us, my very special friend.

For R - I chose "When I Need You" by Leo Sayer R and I were in school together and at University. There are so many songs that could be dedicated to her but this is the one I chose in memory of those Uni days when two particular boys ruled our hearts.

For N - I chose "Sweet and Innocent" by Donny Osmond because this brings back memories of the young schoolgirls we were with our pigtails. N - still very sweet, perhaps not so innocent (I mean that in a nice way).

For A - I chose "I'll Meet You Halfway" by David Cassidy. A was a David Cassidy fan so it's most appropriate to choose a DC number and this is my favourite one.

For A2 - Whenever I think of A2 during our teenage years, I remember the songs by Lena Zavaroni, so for A2 I chose "Ma He's Making Eyes At Me". A2 threw the best parties ever and we had so much fun.

For S D R and myself - The gang of 4 at Uni - I chose "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion - Still in touch with each other, still as if we were never apart even though S is in London, D in Mumbai, and R and myself in NZ but in different cities.

Hope you enjoyed my best friend stories told through songs. I won't be sharing any pictures because I'm not sure they would want their pics splashed across the web.

Remembering the good times is what I love about life this week. The memories always make me smile and recalling those moments make me feel like I'm there all over again.

I was going to vlog this but unfortunately ran out of time.

What's a best friend story that you can never forget - share in the comments below.

Hate Exercising? #vlog #chaiwithsuzy #SuzysIlation

This week I thought I would do a face to face and talk about a topic that you either love or hate - exercising.

Then as I started talking, my vlog morphed into something else as well that could fit in with a little manipulation of the prompt at Friday Reflections this week - Disconnected.

And all of it fit in really nicely with Denyse's prompt Takjng Stock - although her prompt means something else entirely, I'm taking the liberty of interpreting that as taking stock of life, of circumstances and taking appropriate action.

Confused?  Grab a cuppa and chat with me ...

Taking Stock of Perfection #vlog #mixedmedia #morselmashups 5

One of the things we should constantly do is take stock of our beliefs, our desires, our needs as these are ever changing.

I am forever evaluating or taking stock of my understanding of perfection. Perhaps the competitive schooldays set a path for always attaining a level that inevitably is just too hard to achieve.

In trying to reach that level of perfection, you unfortunately set yourself up for failure. And in trying to reach that bar, you more often than not, forget to enjoy the journey, the learning.

My obsession with perfection ended when I started my "tryst" with arts and crafts.

So grab a cuppa and join me on the creation of Morsel Mashup 5 and what art has taught me.

On my youtube channel: https://youtu.be/Vup1hYHdL2s

What beliefs have you recently taken stock of? Share in the comments.

I've been neglecting my art work so I thought I should pick that up again. I am trying to follow the Morsel Mashups which is a mixed media challenge hosted by Cat Hand on her youtube channel.

Experimenting and Life Lessons #vlog #chaiwithsuzy #FridayReflections

“All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson

I thought a lot about this and tried to link it to my vlog today.

And in doing that, I learned a few things ...

Today's vlog took a long time to edit. I had to experiment a lot with the filming, editing footage and the order of things, transitions, audio, captions, narrations etc.

Through filming I learned that you can't get everything right the first time. The parts that got missed or were badly filmed had to be redone.  Then the weather changed a lot during the day so not all filming had the same amount of light and I had to make many adjustments. Life is like that. Often we have to redo things and in redoing we face other challenges.

Editing the footage and the order of things taught me that often we have to drop a lot so we can be effective.  Less is often more or enough. And sometimes we have to backtrack in order to reset our path.

Adjusting the audio was a little tricky. I had comments on my earlier vlogs that the sound was too soft. And yet it sounded pretty loud on my computer. So how do you strike a balance?  In life we need to know when to turn up the audio, that is, our voice, or lower it. And through feedback and experience we learn how to control our volume.  But we can't always get it right and in my view that's okay.  I hope the adjustments to the audio on my vlog has made it better for those who thought it was too soft.

But I learned the most from the transitions. I had to review footage many times, add footage, delete footage so that the transition to a new clip was smooth and easy on the eyes. Not all transitions occurred nicely blended but there wasn't much I could do with that. Life too is often like that. At times, change is smooth and easy and at other times a bit choppy,  The choppy parts need to be adjusted so that eventually the transition to a new phase or situation is smoother and sometimes one just has to accept and ride the choppy seas.

But now for some easy viewing, so grab a cuppa and join me in my garden  ...

on my youtube channel:   https://youtu.be/s5thnK0hh7A

Hope you enjoyed today's vlog.  Whenever I'm in my garden, life just seems good. And camellias are one of my favourite flowers.

What life lessons have you learned from experimenting with things? Share with us in the comments.

Heart Print ...#writebravely #WriteTribeProBlogger #MondayMusings

The experiences we have in life, our thoughts both negative and positive, our relationships, our work, all leave a print in our hearts and in our energetic field. Some of these heart prints bring us great joy and some bring us sadness and despair.

Our beliefs also play a big part in our lives and leave their prints too. Some beliefs serve us well and some don't.

As we progress and evolve in our life journey, some beliefs fall away naturally, some we review and rethink. And some we hold onto because of many factors like social conditioning, superstition, fear.

It is good to challenge some beliefs, it is good to reflect on some and either confirm or reshape them.

But through all of that, always believe in yourself. This picture from The Good Quote, tells a real good story. link https://www.instagram.com/p/Ba3SO86nR8u/

Sometimes circumstances make us question some of our strongest beliefs. Recently I have questioned my belief in God, in the Universe. Then just as I am about to lose faith and release that belief, something comes along that rekindles both.

Sort through your beliefs now and then
and throw out the ones that don't serve you.
~ Billy Fingers (from the book The Aferlife of Billy Fingers)

What beliefs do you feel strongly about, what have you let go of?

It Is You ... #writebravely #WriteTribeProBlogger #FridayReflections

Today's prompt at   #WriteTribeProBlogger and #FridayReflections  is Put your iPod on shuffle/turn on the radio to your fav station. Write a post using the song as your prompt

So here is my song- It Is You I Have Loved from Shrek and it is one of my favourite songs.

Over the years I have believed that somewhere there exists a soulmate for everyone. What I mean by a soulmate is that being with whom we connect at a soul level. Sometimes this soulmate comes to Earth with us as a romantic partner, a parent, a sibling, a cousin, a friend, a child, a grandchild, a teacher.

But today I'll talk about that romantic soulmate that I believe is there for all of us. Sometimes however, our romantic soulmate does not come with us to Earth as perhaps in this life we are meant to go it alone or has departed as their time on Earth was over or someone we haven't met as yet. But I believe that no matter what - whether that soul is on Earth or not, we subconsciously connect with them at an energetic level.

This song always reminds me of that. Sometimes when I feel alone, I think about that soul that I connect with who exists somewhere in this Universe. And I realise that we are therefore never alone.

When you meet someone from your soul tribe, you feel you already know them.
~ Billy Fingers (from the book The Aferlife of Billy Fingers)

I know how sad you are about my death but we will meet again
~ Billy Fingers (from the book The Aferlife of Billy Fingers)

Pick a song you like that sparks something in you and share in the comments. Tell us about your thoughts on soulmates too.

May you all find that special soulmate that makes your heart sing with joy.

Bated Breath ... #writebravely #WriteTribeProBlogger #FridayReflections

This week's prompt at  #WriteTribeProBlogger Challenge  &  #FridayReflections is bated breath.

Dictionary meaning:

To wait with bated breath, is to wait in an anxious or excited way to see what happens next.

So here are some bated breath moments in my life:

   * Scanning the school board for my ISC results

   * Scanning the newspaper for my BCom results

   * Flying through a typhoon from Hong Kong to Singapore

   * Descending into Wellington in a gale force Northerly

   * Awaiting the outcome of an interview

   * Awaiting that little cry that tells you all is well with your baby

   *  Awaiting exam results of the kids

   * Awaiting the outcome of university applications

   * Awaiting the outcome of  hospitalisations and illnesses of loved ones

Bated breath moments can be very stressful. But I have been blessed that most of my bated breath moments have turned out favourably.

We all signed up to do this dance before we were born
~ Billy Fingers (from the book The Aferlife of Billy Fingers)

Commit to the process, detach from the outcome.
~ Lord Krishna, Bhagavad Gita

Share some of your bated breath moments or write your own post.

Nostalgic #writebravely #WriteTribeProBlogger #FridayReflections

Where did those happy childhood days go?

Life was simple then and uncomplicated

There was a skip in my step and a song in my heart

With a teddy bear or a doll tucked under my arm

A cute little puppy as a companion

I was a happy child, a smile on my face all day

I loved making little books and dolls clothes

I could go to the shops in my pyjamas and people found that cute

I could sing badly at the top of my voice and be applauded

I felt safe and loved

And life was good

So where did those happy childhood days go?

Those nostalgic moments ... gone but not forgotten

Let the moments fill you - the ones you judge to be good as well as bad

I Missed Blogging #writebravely #WriteTribeProBlogger #MondayMusings

After the A to Z Challenge way back in April, I somehow lost my writing muse. I couldn't get myself to pen anything down.

Sometimes life throws us a few curved balls that need to be attended to and that means some things have to take a back seat. Unfortunately for me that was blogging.

But I missed it and the interactions with my fellow bloggers. So a challenge is a great way to re-start my blogging and re-connect with blogger friends.

I have no theme for this challenge, but one never knows, a theme may suddenly emerge.

And when you are lost for words, find a quote and share it. So in keeping with the last few months when life decided to get just a wee bit difficult, here's a quote from the book The Afterlife of Billy Fingers by Annie Kagan.

Turn to nature to pardon some of the difficulty you have to bear.
Nature has more light than anything else on your planet.
~ Billy Fingers

If you haven't read this book, I highly recommend it. You can enjoy it as a story or look deeper into its meaning.

Inspirational and motivational quotes is what has kept me going and helped me cope with the tough times.

So how do you cope when life throws you a curved ball?  Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Zeal ... #atozchallenge letter Z @AprilA2Z

My theme for the 2017 AtoZ Challenge is "Daily Thoughts".

Each day I will post a thought that comes to mind. The first word of the thought will correspond with the letter of the day.

Usually I write about one thought, today I'll add a few and let you ponder over them.

So here is my thought for the letter Z

farmers market Lower Hutt NZ

Zeal in everything

The last letter for the AtoZ and I made it. For a while I thought I would have to give up as I was falling behind, but I got there.

My late father was one who epitomised zeal in everything. Whatever he did, big or small, he did it with great enthusiasm and love. He was not a rich man but he did all things with a smile and for the betterment of others.

Zeal in everything is one of the great lessons he taught me.

Do you do all things with zeal? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

If you do leave a comment, please make it easy for me and add a link to your blog / post. Thanks.

You are ... #atozchallenge letter Y @AprilA2Z

My theme for the 2017 AtoZ Challenge is "Daily Thoughts".

Each day I will post a thought that comes to mind. The first word of the thought will correspond with the letter of the day.

Usually I write about one thought, today I'll add a few and let you ponder over them.

So here is my thought for the letter Y

in my garden

You are exactly where you are meant to be

These are words someone said to me a long time ago. Ever since then I have pondered on these and tried to make some sense of it. After all if you are at a point in time where life is humming these words are joyful, if however you are at a point in time when life isn't that great, then what? Life is meant to be down in the dumps?

I can tell you now that at that point in time when those words were said to me, my life was down in the dumps so it certainly didn't make me feel good. But it was a catalyst to make a change in my life.

So perhaps those not so good moments are meant to be so that we can change direction and take life on to a point where it is in tune with the Universal flow, where life hums, where life is joy.

And if life didn't have the downs, how would we enjoy the highs? How would we learn to face challenges and grow?

So I conclude that the downs are required in life and that you are exactly where you are meant to be.

Here's a poem I wrote sometime ago called Lost and Found. This was written at the point where I decided that the downs in my life were moments of great change and the start of the joy and peace in my life.

Life you threw me all askew
In despair I travelled trudging on
Ignorant of  jewels yet to be born
Of experiences wonderful and new

I lost it all, those material things
I thought that I had lost my soul
Then Lord you held me, made me whole
And Your flute, it brought me joy and wings

~x~

When will we learn ... #atozchallenge letter W @AprilA2Z

My theme for the 2017 AtoZ Challenge is "Daily Thoughts".

Each day I will post a thought that comes to mind. The first word of the thought will correspond with the letter of the day.

Usually I write about one thought, today I'll add a few and let you ponder over them.

So here are my thoughts for the letter W

Wellington New Zealand

When will we learn that war is not the way to peace.
Only peace is the way to peace.

When will we learn that we are one race, the human race.

When will we learn to take all actions with love and compassion
that benefit the many

When will we learn that all beings carry the spark of Divinity,
that we all come from the same source.

When will we learn that eventually when we return to our maker,
all we take with us is the spiritual knowledge that we gained
and the love we shared.

Variety of thoughts ... #atozchallenge letter V @AprilA2Z

My theme for the 2017 AtoZ Challenge is "Daily Thoughts".

Each day I will post a thought that comes to mind. The first word of the thought will correspond with the letter of the day.

Usually I write about one thought, today I'll add a few and let you ponder over them.

So here are a variety of thoughts for the letter V

Visions that are planted in your mind are like seeds
that need watering and care before they grow

Victory over self before victory over others

Voyage of life is filled with ups and downs
Without the downs the ups would have no meaning
Without the ups life would be too hard to bear
All things in life are balanced as is the cosmos

Vanquish with love, the demons that imprison your mind
Here's a poem I wrote sometime ago that depicts my thoughts on this

Let the demon of doubt vanish from my mind
Let him not start a feud with my heart
Let him no place in my existence find
Let him not tear my soul apart

For love is the key to conquer all
With faith in my heart I free my mind
The demon of doubt then begins to fall
And unlocked are the fearful chains that bind

Which of these thoughts resonates with you? Share in the comments below.

Umbrellas can ... #atozchallenge letter U @AprilA2Z

My theme for the 2017 AtoZ Challenge is "Daily Thoughts".

Each day I will post a thought that comes to mind. The first word of the thought will correspond with the letter of the day.

So here is my thought for the letter U

picture taken inside an Indian restaurant in Wellington
and then turned upside down.

Umbrellas can provide shelter from the rain, shade from the sun,
be a wind breaker, a fashion statement and also a decoration piece.

You might be wondering where this thought of mine is leading to.  Umbrellas? Where did that come from? Last night I couldn't get umbrellas out of my head and these words went around in my head as well.

I spent some time thinking about this and came up with this explanation. Often we look at things from just one perspective or in the way we are expected to. But sometimes there are many other ways of looking at things and if we explore those we may come up with an answer we did not expect and which creates something new for us. Challenge your mind to think outside the square.

Is thinking outside the square easy or hard for you? Share one of your think outside the square stories.

If you do leave a comment, please make it easy for me and add a link to your blog / post. Thanks.

The Day Came When ... #atozchallenge letter T @AprilA2Z

My theme for the 2017 AtoZ Challenge is "Daily Thoughts".

Each day I will post a thought that comes to mind. The first word of the thought will correspond with the letter of the day.

So here is my thought for the letter T

The day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud
was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.
~ Anain Nin

Cat Graham who blogs at Cattitude and Gratitude posted the above quote in one of our blogging groups on facebook and I thought it was perfect for the letter T.

Even though we may be frustrated or hate the current situation we are in, taking the first step to make a change is always a hard thing to do. We have an inherent fear of the unknown and prefer the comfort zone even though it may be a living hell.

But at some point we may be compelled to take that first step, to break free from that which no longer serves us well. Either we are forced to do it because of circumstances or we just decide enough is enough or a new opportunity arises that looks like it is just too good not to miss.

Sometimes the risk pays off and sometimes it doesn't. However unless the risk is taken, we will never know. Sometimes we have to stop analysing and weighing up as the mind can be a powerful influencer and flash the fear alarms.

From experience, the risks I have taken have always been worth it. I also believe that when the time is right, an invisible hand pushes us across the line.

What are your thoughts? Have you ever been compelled to take that first step out of a bad situation? Did the risk pay off? Share in the comments below.

If you do leave a comment, please make it easy for me and add a link to your blog / post. Thanks.

Success is Defined ... #atozchallenge letter S @AprilA2Z

My theme for the 2017 AtoZ Challenge is "Daily Thoughts".

Each day I will post a thought that comes to mind. The first word of the thought will correspond with the letter of the day.

So here is my thought for the letter S

Azaleas from my garden

Success is defined uniquely by each person
Strive to attain yours not someone else's

Each of us defines success in different ways.  This hit home even more when I was discussing futures with a loved one over the weekend.

I've often thought of what success for me means. And eventually after going through all the usual career, love, finance, fame and fortune etc I ended up with just one thought that really encompassed all of these - to be at peace with my life.

What's your definition of success?  Share in the comments below.
