Art Journaling is happiness ... #vlog #chaiwithsuzy #SuzysIlation #FridayReflections

Some years ago, inspired by YouTube art journals, I decided to start art journaling.

But the journey started in December of 2015 when I walked into a bookshop and found a set of 3 mini journals that were so cute, I had to buy them. I had no idea what I would use them for but they were just too cute to resist.

One of these became my art journal.

So grab a cuppa and join me in a flip through of some of the pages ...

Unfortunately I had to use still photos because the film came up with a weird shimmer that was quite hurtful to the eyes. I tried many times but couldn't make it go away. Might be the type of paper in the journal.

But regardless, I hope you enjoyed today's vlog. Let me know in a comment, which page you liked the best.

And if you are interested in the story mentioned in my vlog, here is the link to For I Have Talked With God

I have a lot of fun with my art journaling. Art and crafts in general always make me feel happy.

Some other things that make me happy are:

Crafting - I love making cards

Hills and Mountains - bring me a sense of peace

Board and Card games - playing with the family is fun and relaxing

Walking in nature - always exhilarating

Chai (tea brewed the Indian way) - always relaxes me

Vlogging and Blogging - challenges me to think beyond the usual

Photography and Filming - capturing moments in time I can remember forever

Farmer's market on a nice day - fun and colourful and has a high energy buzz

Ice cream - no explanations needed :)

I have to add music, how could I not. Well that makes it 11 but does it matter?

Be happy, stay happy.

Taking Stock of Perfection #vlog #mixedmedia #morselmashups 5

One of the things we should constantly do is take stock of our beliefs, our desires, our needs as these are ever changing.

I am forever evaluating or taking stock of my understanding of perfection. Perhaps the competitive schooldays set a path for always attaining a level that inevitably is just too hard to achieve.

In trying to reach that level of perfection, you unfortunately set yourself up for failure. And in trying to reach that bar, you more often than not, forget to enjoy the journey, the learning.

My obsession with perfection ended when I started my "tryst" with arts and crafts.

So grab a cuppa and join me on the creation of Morsel Mashup 5 and what art has taught me.

What beliefs have you recently taken stock of? Share in the comments.

I've been neglecting my art work so I thought I should pick that up again. I am trying to follow the Morsel Mashups which is a mixed media challenge hosted by Cat Hand on her youtube channel.

This post was written for the #LifeThisWeek prompt Taking Stock hosted by Denyse Whelan.

Lord Hear Our Prayer ... #FridayReflections #MondayMusings #MicroblogMondays #openslather

For such a long time, mankind has prayed for peace in this world. I am a great believer of collective consciousness, that combined, our prayers and thoughts truly manifest and I am sure that the peaceful warriors vastly outweigh the destroyers.

Why then is there so much destruction on Earth both in the form of natural and man-made calamities?

This is a question I ask myself over and over again? What is lacking in our prayers? I am convinced it is not a lack of sincerity.

Today is a public holiday in New Zealand - Waitangi Day. I took the day off yesterday to make it a long weekend and that gave me time to ponder over this question. But the answer seemed elusive.

Then when you least expect it, the answer comes. So yesterday as I was focussed on my art work (a hobby I absolutely love), the answer popped into my head ...

The Lord, the Universe simply can't bring peace into this world because they gave us free will. The only people who can bring peace is us. But how? And then this thought manifested in my head:

The only way to bring peace to the world is if we all act with love, kindness and compassion.

And so my prayer each day has changed. Instead of asking the Lord, the Universe to bring peace, I now pray that all our acts be done with love, kindness and compassion, and that our actions are beneficial to those around us.

Have you ever pondered this question and what do you think, how can peace prevail on Earth? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Sharing the art I was working on when these thoughts arrived:

Like A Cat ... #PASC0118 #MicroblogMondays #MondayMusings #FridayReflections

2017 went by so fast. I had to face many challenges and my creative interests took a back seat.

This year I hope I will not be missing out on these.  I am also hoping to take part in some arts and crafts challenges and to start off here is the first one:

This is the pick a stick ATC challenge for January 2018 hosted by Shel C. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3Mk4CqFkBg for details. This is the first time I'm taking part in an art / crafts challenge.

Steps to create the ATC (artist trading card)
1. grimy
2. cat
3. pad
wildcard: curl
colour: white

So here goes:

Step 0 - prepared the background using gelatos and glad (plastic) wrap.
This is a technique I enjoy doing.

Step 1: added some paint to make it look a little grimy
Step 2: drew the cat - a challenge but it didn't turn out too bad
Step 3a: added the frond as curls. didn't turn out as I wanted but ..

Step 3b: inked the borders with a blue ink pad
Final step: add some text
colour white - frond and the labels

"Tread softly like a cat" is something I tell myself each day when I am walking around at work. Some people walk around so noisily It also reminds me of my karate days when my instructor would say to us - land softly like a cat.

Hope you enjoyed this.

Have an awesome week.
