It Is You ... #writebravely #WriteTribeProBlogger #FridayReflections

Today's prompt at   #WriteTribeProBlogger and #FridayReflections  is Put your iPod on shuffle/turn on the radio to your fav station. Write a post using the song as your prompt

So here is my song- It Is You I Have Loved from Shrek and it is one of my favourite songs.

Over the years I have believed that somewhere there exists a soulmate for everyone. What I mean by a soulmate is that being with whom we connect at a soul level. Sometimes this soulmate comes to Earth with us as a romantic partner, a parent, a sibling, a cousin, a friend, a child, a grandchild, a teacher.

But today I'll talk about that romantic soulmate that I believe is there for all of us. Sometimes however, our romantic soulmate does not come with us to Earth as perhaps in this life we are meant to go it alone or has departed as their time on Earth was over or someone we haven't met as yet. But I believe that no matter what - whether that soul is on Earth or not, we subconsciously connect with them at an energetic level.

This song always reminds me of that. Sometimes when I feel alone, I think about that soul that I connect with who exists somewhere in this Universe. And I realise that we are therefore never alone.

When you meet someone from your soul tribe, you feel you already know them.
~ Billy Fingers (from the book The Aferlife of Billy Fingers)

I know how sad you are about my death but we will meet again
~ Billy Fingers (from the book The Aferlife of Billy Fingers)

Pick a song you like that sparks something in you and share in the comments. Tell us about your thoughts on soulmates too.

May you all find that special soulmate that makes your heart sing with joy.

When will we learn ... #atozchallenge letter W @AprilA2Z

My theme for the 2017 AtoZ Challenge is "Daily Thoughts".

Each day I will post a thought that comes to mind. The first word of the thought will correspond with the letter of the day.

Usually I write about one thought, today I'll add a few and let you ponder over them.

So here are my thoughts for the letter W

Wellington New Zealand

When will we learn that war is not the way to peace.
Only peace is the way to peace.

When will we learn that we are one race, the human race.

When will we learn to take all actions with love and compassion
that benefit the many

When will we learn that all beings carry the spark of Divinity,
that we all come from the same source.

When will we learn that eventually when we return to our maker,
all we take with us is the spiritual knowledge that we gained
and the love we shared.

Which of these thoughts resonates with you? Share in the comments below.

If you do leave a comment, please make it easy for me and add a link to your blog / post. Thanks.

Written for the #atozchallenge drop by and check out some awesome posts.

Love Conquers All #FridayReflections #BARWoWe

gol gumbaaz bijapur
Picture prompt and image source - Everyday Gyaan

The quiet facade of the palace entrance was deceptive. For inside there was turmoil of all kinds ...

Princess Jodha sat in front of the idol of her Lord Krishna with tears in her eyes. Today was her wedding day but unlike other brides, Jodha dreaded the moment her hand would be placed into the hand of her groom. "Why Kanha, have you chosen this fate for me" she asked sadly. "Why Kanha? Why? Why? Why is my fate linked with the man I hate the most" she enquired as if by asking she could change the outcome.

Emperor Akbar sat in his royal tent. A smug look on his face. Princess Jodha was his prize for winning the war against the Rajput kingdom of Amer. The most beautiful princess in Hindustan was going to be his bride. He was the envy of all. Akbar had a gleam in his eye for he was going to make her pay for all the anguish the Rajputs had caused him. He couldn't wait to see her. She was merely a thing for him and he had to own her.

Jodha watched her groom. He looked arrogant and his manner seemed crude. There was an air of conquering in his demeanour. She had heard that he had this irksome habit of toying with his conquests before he brutally decapitated them, an unfeeling and arrogant warrior. But she did admit that he looked dynamic and regal and there was a majestic countenance about him. She wanted to hate him with every breath but something stirred within her heart, a sensation she could not understand. But her mind was stubborn. Hate him she would. And yet when she placed her hand in his it felt warm, reassuring and familiar. She looked at him covertly and was startled to find her eyes rivetted with his, mesmerised and filled with awe. There was something about him she could see but at that point could not fathom.

Akbar entered his royal tent, This was the night he would make her pay dearly. She had better be ready for the anger he was about to unleash on her. Jodha sat on the bed. Rivers flowed from the pools in her eyes. Her fate had been sealed. Akbar advanced menacingly towards her a sneer on his face. But something stopped him in his tracks. The sight of Jodha crying tugged at his heart. This fearless and greatly feared, heartless, barbaric warrior and king suddenly felt her anguish. It was a strange sensation and the Emporer was confused.

He left the tent abruptly feeling like an intruder in his own space and unable to face her. He had carved his destiny with his sword, with clever political manouverings and advantageous alliances. He faced life unafraid and confident. Women he had many as his harem was packed with them and he demanded their subservience. They feared him and yet he trembled at the sight of Jodha crying. "What force could be greater than my sword and why do I tremble" he pondered. In the darkness of the night, he looked up at the stars and wondered what his God had planned for him.

And high in the heavens they watched and waited with love and pride, the spirits of these two dynamic forces that would one day come together in a deep and everlasting love that would change the course of history. They would break down the barriers of religion, injustice, hatred, cruelty, outdated laws and rituals and create a new world, a new India. A king who could incite widespread fear among his people would become the king of their hearts.

Shahenshah (King of Emporers) Jalaludin Mohammed Akbar, one of the greatest kings of India and his hindu Begum (Empress) Jodha would begin a new chapter and forever be immortalised in the pages of history books.

~x~

Shahanshah Akbar and Begum Jodha (Marium-uz-Zamani) ruled the Mughal Dynasty in India from 1556 to 1605.

The story above however is simply a figment of my imagination or perhaps a story placed in my head by the 2 souls themselves. For this came to me a few days ago in my half awake half sleep state.

But there is a powerful message illustrated in this story that perhaps they wanted me to share:
  • That love is the greatest force there ever is
  • That love alone conquers
  • That love is the only way to peace

My writing has been slow this year - in keeping with my word for 2017 "Andante" (music tempo - at a walking pace).  But there was a compulsion to pen this down.  Then I wondered and hoped I could find a link to place it in. And as always the Universe obliges or perhaps Corinne who blogs at Everyday Gyaan just reads my mind. Check out the picture prompt for Friday Reflections that became the perfect backdrop for my story. And the word prompt at Wordy Wednesday came up with just the right words to bring this story to life.

Written for:
Picture prompt at #FridayReflections and could also fit into the quote prompt: "Imagination is the highest form of research" Albert Einstein

Wordy Wednesday #BARWoWe word prompt - illustrate, incite, irksome, intruder.

Il Mondo #FridayReflections

It was time for Isabella to go. She had spent wonderful years with her family and her four boys had grown up strong and confident. She looked back on her life to the days when she played in the fields with her friends and of the day Lazzaro and she married. She smiled as she looked at him for he meant the world to her. God had truly blessed her.

Lazzaro carried her out into the field that she loved and cradled her in his arms. She looked up at him for the last time.  "Lazzaro" she whispered, "Il mondo, you are my world".  Then she closed her eyes forever.  Lazzaro held her close and wept. He felt the life force within him drain out. Yet he lived. "How will I live without you Izzy" he sobbed, "Your love is all I need in my world".

Lazzaro was surrounded by his grandchildren and they brought him happiness.  After Isabella's death his life revolved around them. But deep inside a sadness still existed.

Angelina his daughter-in-law had just given birth. Lazzaro held the baby in his arms. There was something special about this one. As he gazed at her, he felt a life spark and joy filled his heart. "Izzy" he whispered. "Izzy".

Little Isabella loved her big papa above anyone else. The two shared a unique bond that was incomprehensible to most. "Big papa Lazzaro, il mondo, you are my world" Isabella would say as she snuggled up to him as he read stories to all his grandchildren.

Angelina worried about Little Izzy. After grandpa Lazzaro's death six month's ago she withdrew into a world of solitude and sadness. They had tried everything to draw her out, but Izzy's despair knew no bounds. It was difficult to take her out anywhere as her behaviour was sullen and rude so Angelina usually left her at home with the rest of the family.

But today there was no baby sitter and Angelina was compelled to take her out.  "Dear God", she prayed. "I don't know what fate has in store today, but please let it go well today".

Maria's baby was a  month old.  He was a beautiful baby. Izzy watched him play, mesmerised and spellbound. Something stirred within her soul and she felt a life spark and a joy fill her heart.

"What have you named him?" asked Angelina. "We are unable to settle on a name" Maria replied.  "Lazzaro" said three year old Izzy excitedly. "Lazzaro, il mondo, my world".

~x~

Isabella - Promise of God
Lazzaro - My helper is God
Angelina - God's messenger

It is my belief that soulmates come together in many lifetimes in many ways. Sometimes as romantic partners but also as friends, siblings, parents / children, grandparents / grandchildren, workmates etc.

Contrary to popular belief that soulmates sometimes come together to tear each other apart, it is my belief that soulmate relationships are always harmonious. That does not mean that they don't face difficulties, but that through those, their relationship remains harmonious.

I also believe that the term "soulmate" is too loosely used these days. Soul mates recognise each other at the soul level. I believe there is great familiarity, peace, contentment, joy in that recognition and both give each other great strength. I also believe that soulmates incarnate on Earth for a common purpose usually in some service for the good of humanity.

Stay beside me, stay beside me
Say you'll never leave me
How I love you, how I love you
How I need you please believe me
In your arms I found my heaven
And your lips have done their part
Il Mondo
Your love is all I need in my world
Let tender kisses plead in my world
How could I ever live without you
Il Mondo
My heart belongs to you so take it
And promise me you'll never break it
Say you'll stay here in my arms

Gira, il mondo gira
Nello spazio senza fine
Con gli amori appena nati
Con gli amori già finiti
Con la gioia e col dolore
Della gente come me
Un mondo
Soltanto adesso, io ti guardo
Nel tuo silenzio io mi perdo
E sono niente accanto a te
Il mondo
Non si é fermato mai un momento
La notte insegue sempre il giorno
Ed il giorno verrà

Translation from http://lyricstranslate.com/en/il-mondo-world.html
Spiraling, The world goes around
in limitless space
where the Love has just begun
where the love has been over
where people are happy or hurt
as me
The World
Until now I look at you
I am lost in your silence world
I am nothing beside you
The World
never stops
Night is always following day
And the daylight will come

Express The Love #SoCS #FridayReflections

The family I was born into was forward thinking and open minded. But expressing love for each other was rarely done with words.

And actually words were unnecessary because the love we had for each other we showed in our respect for each other, politeness, tolerance, in the times we spent together, in the joy on our faces when we were in each other's company and the laughter that rang through our home. .

I miss those times and those who have crossed over . But most of all I miss my dad.

I was very close to my dad, and he was one of the most beautiful souls I have ever known.

In the last 15 years of his life, he lost 98% of his hearing,  and though we communicated with words he probably heard very little. Yet his love showed through in the breakfast he made for me, the cup of tea in the afternoon, the food he would heat up for me knowing I was tired, in the letters he happily mailed for me, the cake that he bought for my birthday, or in the smile I was greeted with after a hard day at work.

Just sitting quietly by his side gave me comfort and strength.

In the last hours of his life in the hospital there were no words exchanged  yet I watched his soul struggle between a better world and the love he had for us. And I know my hand on his forehead and my head next to his told him how much I loved him.

I miss my dad.

No need for words to express love.

Please read my poem "Ode To My Dad" that I wrote a few years ago.

Silent Conversations - #MondayMusings #WordyWednesday

It was the end of day and darkness spread over parts of the Earth. Sita lay down on the floor of the ashram and closed her eyes.

In the palace at Ayodhya Ram retired for the night on a mat on the floor, relaxing peacefully after a hard day's work. This was the time he loved the most - his time with Sita. The time when he and Sita had "silent" conversations.  Ram fell into a deep sleep with a smile on his face.

The forest was silent. The moon and the owl watched as Lord Vishnu (Ram) waited for Devi Lakshmi (Sita). This was the meeting of souls. She ran into his open arms savouring His sweetness while Universes reverberated to the sound of sweet music.

Their souls danced to the sounds of the cosmos, entwining and separating in rhythmic and symmetrical patterns in colours so vibrant that are unknown to humankind. Together they chorused through universes, creating and destroying, enlightening and comforting beings of all kinds, all of their creation. God and Goddess working and playing, loving and laughing.

But as daybreak was imminent, it was time to return to their earthly incarnations.

Ram's eyes slowly opened and a smile curved upon his lips. "Why did they all think that by sending Sita into exile, he had severed all ties with her. Without Lakshmi (Sita) creation ceases to exist for there is no life without Her.  She is the breath of my cosmos, the essence of all creation, my strength, my joy, my love. She is my salvation as creation believes that I am theirs. And without Her, Ram has no existence", he thought to himself.

Sita opened her eyes and sat up. As reality dawned on her she wondered, as she did each morning, if she had been in a dream.  Why did she feel Ram all around her even though he was far from her at the palace. Why did she feel a love so powerful that it was as if she had spent each moment with him. She closed her eyes as if to capture that moment before the chores of the ashram took over and her mind drowned every thought of him.

Ram stood up and faced the direction of the ashram. He folded his hands in honour of the Goddess (Sita) who gives life to all. "My Sita", he whispered with love and in joy. "No force in the entire cosmos among our infinite creations can ever separate us".

Sita heard the birds singing, the gentle wind through the trees, the sounds of horses and cattle, the laughter of children. She felt the warmth of the sun, of the once Sun Prince now the King of Ayodhya, her Ram. She turned to the direction of the palace and folded her hands in honour of the Lord of all Universes. "I hear you my beloved", she whispered into the air. "For you exist in all things, in the Earth and the sky and in all creatures great and small".

The children rushed towards Sita waiting to hear her stories. She told them about Gods and Godesses, of the Earth and the sky, of Universes, of the Great Kings of the world and of the adventures of Ram, the greatest of them all.

"How, how", they asked.

And Sita sweetly replied, "Lord Ram is an enigma, an extraordinary being, an energy so powerful, so benevolent, so vast that to try and explain or elaborate is impossible".

~x~

Perhaps these poems will give you an insight on my thoughts of the love Ram and Sita shared for each other:
Ram's view of Sita
Sita's view of Ram

The story was inspired by the picture on the word prompt at Blog-A-Rhythm, from questions I've asked about Sita's exile and of  dreams I've had the last few nights.

For I Have Talked With God

Alejandro, Juan and I were the best of friends since childhood. Juan was handsome and full of life, perhaps a little reckless, romantic and charming. Alejandro also handsome and strong, but quiet and calm, the one you could always depend on and turn to when you needed something. But I always loved Juan and when he told me he loved me and we married, I felt that I could reach the stars.

But with great happiness, sometimes there also comes great sorrow and last week was the worst week of my life. Juan was killed in an accident and my world fell apart.  Alejandro tried hard to comfort me, but the pain in my heart was unexplainable and unimaginable. Alejandro's words fell on my deaf ears and my tears would not stop flowing.

In times like these I seek solace with Lita (Grandmother) Maria. She is actually my great grandmother and adored by all of us. When we were very young we thought she was magical for she told us stories of ancient times, of mystical visions and love. Lita Maria always had this amazing countenance. It was like her light shone through for miles and across lifetimes.

In the darkness Lita Maria lit a candle while I sat at her feet, my head in her lap and she gently stroked my long black hair. I sobbed and asked, Why, Why over and over again. Lita Maria was silent but her hands were comforting and slowly my sobs ceased. Then Lita Maria told me the most beautiful story I have ever heard.

Many years ago in ancient Mexico near the city of Teotihuacan, lived Citlali. Tonauac thought she was the most beautiful girl in the whole world and as they grew up, his heart filled with love for her. Tonauac was calm and quiet, kind and caring. But he was also strong and dependable. He was a beautiful man and the girls whispered that they could see his light shine through.

And then there was Uetzcayotl. He was sweet, funny and clever, he would sing and dance and his eyes twinkled.  He was romantic and happy. He had a zest for life and the girls adored him. Citlali, Tonauac and Uetzcayotl were the best of friends and in their little community, the wise elders always said they were inseparable souls come to Earth for a common purpose.

The three friends were always together and as time went on, Citlali and Uetzcayotl grew closer and fell in love. Uetzcayotl, the romantic would bring her flowers and sing to her. Citlali would giggle and pretend she didn't love him. You don't love me like Tonauac does Uetzcayotl, she would tease.

Uetscayotl would pretend to be very hurt and then he would sing ...

Mujer, si puedes tu con Dios hablar      Woman, if you can talk with God
Pregúntale si yo alguna vez                   Ask Him if I have ever once
te he dejado de adorar                            Ceased to adore you

Y al mar, espejo de mi corazón              And the sea, mirror of my heart
Las veces que me ha visto llorar           Those times it saw me shed tears at
La perfidia de tu amor                           The betrayal of your love

Citlali and Uetzcayotl eventually married and had two beautiful boys who were the pride and joy of Uetzcayotl. Life was beautiful and love was strong.

Citlali and Uetzcayotl often sat under the stars and he would sing to her. One starry night Uetzcayotl said to Citlali, remember when I am gone from this Earth, that I will always be with you and that somehow I will return. Citlali was bewildered. How will I know you she whispered. When the cool wind blows, you will hear my song. You will know me when I hold your hand and when you look into my eyes you will see my soul. Then Citlali you will know that I am here with you. Citlali thought her Uetzcaytl was so romantic and she thought that the two of them would live together forever.

Then the war broke out. The young men gathered to go. Dread filled Citlali's heart as Uetzcayotl silently gathered up his weapons.  Uetzcayotl sensed her distress but strangely instead of comforting and reassuring Citali, he filled it with even more fear and sadness. Remember my words Citlali he said as he looked into her eyes. Then he held her close and kissed her, embraced his boys and walked out into the night.

Tia Nelli was a kind loving woman with a unique gift. The natives whispered that she could speak with God. Citlali had to know about Uetzcayotl for her heart would not rest in peace until she did. She ran for miles to reach Tia Nelli's hut and eagerly awaited her answer. The one who truly adores you will come back to you Citlali she said. Citlali's joy knew no bounds. She waited for the day Uetzcayotl would return with the other men. But Uetzcayotl did not return.

Tonauac felt Citlali's heartbreak and wished he could help her. But Citlali's heart was filled with so much sorrow that the very breath within her struggled to stay alive. She immersed herself in her young boys and wished death would come to her. Without Uetzcayotl life held no meaning for her. Tia Nelli had been so wrong for Uetzcayotl had not returned and she definitely could not speak with God. No one can speak with God thought Citlali sadly.

Tonauac looked up at the stars and wondered where Uetzcayotl was. He missed his friend and he was unable to see Citlali suffer so. In the solitude and silence Tonauac felt a cool breeze, he thought he could feel his friend beside him. He thought he heard the words, Sing Tonauac, sing for you have adored Citlali more than I have. Whisper the words you hear to the wind. Sing Tonauac for we are one soul and my song is your song. Sing and soothe Citlali's soul for I was born to leave her and you were born to heal her and together we were born to show her what love means.

Citlali felt a cool breeze tickle her cheek. Her mind was restless filled with thoughts of Uetzcayotl. She watched her boys sleeping soundly. Then her feet took her outside under a star filled night sky. And as she looked up towards the heavens she prayed one last time. Dear God, I ask that You send with haste, the one who truly adores me for You have promised that he will come. Waiting for Uetzcayotl Citlali stood in silence, her eyes closed, feeling the cool breeze around her and then she heard the strains of a song drift by.

Mujer, si puedes tu con Dios hablar      Woman, if you can talk with God
Pregúntale si yo alguna vez                   Ask Him if I have ever once
te he dejado de adorar                            Ceased to adore you

Uetzcayotl she whispered as she ran towards the song. There in the distance she saw a man. Uetzcayotl she called only to find Tonauac turn towards her.

Tonauac was the perfect father for her boys and he was a good man. He adored and loved her so much. Whenever Citlali looked into his eyes she saw Uetzcayotl look back at her and when Tonauac took her hand she knew that Uetzcayotl was by her side.

Many years went by. Her boys were growing up. Citlali was content. She looked back to the days when life had been joyful with Uetzcayotl but the memories of that life were slowly fading. She sensed Tonauac was watching her and she turned to look at him and smiled. Then she stood up and took his hands in hers and looked into his eyes. For the first time she saw Tonauac look back at her and she saw into the depths of the soul that truly adored her. Tonauac, she whispered, I have grown to love you and I know that you have never ceased to adore me for I have talked with God.

Lita Maria smiled as she finished the story. You know Rosa, she said, I was that young Citlali and my Tonauac loved me more than life itself. When one door closes Rosa, the Lord always opens another one but sometimes we choose not to see that door. And in the darkness Rosa, someone lights a candle that ignites your soul again and life goes on.

Lita Maria is a very wise lady and her words always comfort and soothe me.

Teotihuacan - City of the Gods
Citlali - means star
Tonauac - means the one who possesses light
Uetzcayotl - means the essence of light
Nelli - means truth

Love is in the air - Zillion

Day 26 A to Z Challenge 2015 - Zillion

God and Goddess reunited
A zillion hardships braved with zeal
Their plan to save mankind completed
Now time for love and time to heal

Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi
Love all creatures great and small
And if you seek peace and eternity
In their sharan (shelter / refuge) you must fall

Rama and Sita return to Ayodhya where Rama is crowned the king. The festival of Diwali celebrated by Indians all over the world, marks the event when Rama arrived into Ayodhya.

Though the Ramayana is a chronicle of the life of Lord Rama, it conveys many messages. It's key messages are of love, peace and forgiveness, of overcoming difficulties, of giving chances, of courage and hope, of devotion and friendship, of humility and honouring promises.

Lord Rama's name brings us peace and bliss. May you feel it too in saying his name.

Hari Anant Hari Katha Ananta
Kahahi Sunahi Bahu Vidhi Sab Santa

Lord Rama (Hari) is infinite (Ananta), and so are the stories (Katha) about his glory
All learned seers (Santa) narrate (kahahi) these and listen (sunahi) to them in many different ways (bahu vidhi)
(translation from indianrealist.com)

Enjoy this video - Ramayana in 7 minutes

Love is in the air. Feel the love. Many blessings to you.

The Ramayana is a historical chronicle of events during the life of Lord Rama in an ancient time in a land called Bharatvarsh a part of which is now modern day India.

This year's theme was given to me through meditation. But more than just a theme I was also asked to write this from the perspective of Divine love and not just a recounting of the events as they took place. Hence the essence of my posts is "Love is in the air".

The individual theme and tone of my verses are also given to me. And I try to convey what Spirit wants to say through my poetry and prose. In essence, I only transcribe what is given to me, the author of these posts is my soul, the Universe, God and Goddess.

Love is in the air - Yearning

Day 25 A to Z Challenge 2015 - Yearning

Sita's yearning finally ceased
Her face with love aglow
Her joy at seeing Rama increased
Past year now forgotten so

Rama looked with love at his beloved
Heart bursting with joy and pride
For his Sita strong and so devoted
Was finally back at his side.

Sita and Rama delighted at being reunited, embraced each other. Tears of joy flowed from Sita's eyes, she felt at peace, and in his arms she felt his bliss. Her faith was unwavering that Rama would find and rescue her. Rama's heart overflowing with love and his joy knew no bounds. His Sita was finally back at his side. Nothing else mattered.

It is at this point that the Rama Sita controversy begins. Did Rama trust Sita, did he put her through the agni pariksha (fire test)?  In my meditations, what's revealed to me is that Rama and Sita had a love so deep that it is incomprehensible to us and unshakeable faith and trust in each other. Each action that they undertook, they took together. Rama and Sita could never hurt each other and the questions that filter through my mind are:
  • Do you really think that Divinity would doubt each other?
  • Do you think that Sita would've waited for Rama if she didn't believe and trust that he would come for her?
  • Do you think Sita would've lived if Ravana had touched her?
  • Do you think the heavens would've allowed that?
  • Do you think that Rama would've searched for Sita if he ever doubted her love and faithfulness?

Sita would have never have given herself to Ravana and strangely Ravana would never have touched Sita. His pride would not have allowed that - he wanted Sita to surrender to him of her own accord for that would hurt Rama the most. Sita would have given up her life if Ravana had touched her just as she had done as Vedvati in a previous life when Ravana had tried to molest her. And Rama knew that.  Questioning Sita's purity never even crossed Rama's mind.

We forget that Rama and Sita were aware of their divinity, they just never used their divine powers and always lived within human limitations.

So as per human nature, when we try to find the flaws in Rama and condemn him, may we ponder a moment on the questions that have been given to me.

The conclusion of my Ramyana for the A to Z Challenge in my Z post.

Love is in the air.  May we have that unshakeable faith and love for the Divine as Sita did for Rama and Rama did for Sita. And may we never forget that love.

Love is in the air - eXit

Day 24 A to Z Challenge 2015 - eXit

Ravana knew not who he faced
He laughed at the man with the bow
But death was ready to him embrace
At Rama's command from below

At last the demon fell to his death
As arrows pierced his body
Rama gave him due respect
Divine love even for the enemy

Ravana could not see the divinity in Rama and thought himself invincible. Rama gave Ravana many chances to surrender Sita.

Ravana was highly knowledgeable and intelligent but lost his way and used his knowledge and intelligence in the wrong way.  Rama gave Ravana many chances to surrender Sita and tried to get him back on track several times and only destroyed him when the demon stubbornly refused.

It was only at the point of death that Ravana realised that he faced Lord Vishnu in the form of Rama. As he fell he looked at Rama and called out his name. The ever forgiving Rama gave the demon due respect. Divine love shining through for all.

Lord Rama's name is bliss. It brings us peace. He loves us unconditionally and forgives us if we truly repent our misdeeds, seek forgiveness and takes steps to redeem.

So how will Rama and Sita react when they face each other again? Brought by the letter Y.

Love is in the air. May you always feel that Divine love. May His name always bring you peace. May you use your knowledge wisely.

Love is in the Air - War

Day 23 A to Z Challenge 2015 - War

Hanuman watches silently
While Ravana threatens Sita
Gives her Rama's ring obediently
When the demon angrily leaves her

The demons set alight his tail
He sets the city on fire
Hanuman's mission never will fail
For Rama he'll never tire

Divinty joining forces
What chance did Ravana have
Both sides suffered many losses
Rama's heart for both was sad

Rama asked Ravana to surrender Sita
Forgiveness even for his foe
But Ravana's pride was off the meter
He was sure he would win and show.

After many days of searching, Hanuman finally finds Sita in the Ashok Vatika in the island of Lanka and assures Sita that Rama would soon arrive to free her. Hanuman is disturbed to find Sita in a very sad state and Ravana threatening her.

He allows Ravana's men to capture him so he may have an audience with Ravana and convey Rama's message. Hanuman asks Ravana to release Sita and surrender to Rama, but the arrogant Ravana laughs at Hanuman and asks his men to set his tail on fire. Hanuman ceases the opportunity and sets the city alight as a warning to Ravana. But Ravana does not heed that warning.

Rama eventually reaches Lanka and tries again to reason with Ravana via another messenger Angad but Ravana was so sure that he would kill Rama that he challenges Rama to fight for Sita. The war breaks out and there are many losses on both sides. Rama feels sadness for all who die or are hurt, and all through the war he tries to reason with Ravana.

All through our lives, we get many chances to redeem ourselves. But so often we think that our actions are correct and we don't try to see the other's point of view. Rama gave Ravana many chances to surrender Sita to him and was ready to forgive him. Often we think that admitting defeat and correcting our actions shows us to be losers and pride gets in our way. But in fact it takes a lot of courage to admit and reform. And forgiveness does not mean we condone the action or become best friends again. Forgiveness means that the action no longer affects us.

How will it all end?  In my X post.

Love is in the air. May we learn to admit our mistakes and correct them. And may we be gracious to forgive those who wrong us. For forgiveness is akin to divinity.

Love is in the Air - Veneration

Day 22 A to Z Challenge 2015 - Veneration

Veneration: a feeling of profound respect for someone or something;

Shabri tasted berries
Sweet ones she gave to Rama
He ate them with such relish
And filled her heart with bliss and calm

Rama and Lakshman searching
Came upon Hanuman
A moment so endearing
Shiva Vishnu's earthly plan

The Vanar (ape like humanoids) army ready
The search for Sita starts
Rama's faith in Hanuman steady
His ring and love for Sita he imparts.

Trijata a loving heart
An angel in disguise
Deceived her cruel king and played her part
Sita to protect and comfort her cries

Sita had prayed that the heavens help Rama and Rama had prayed the heavens protect Sita. And so they moved heaven and earth to answer the prayers of their beloved Rama and Sita.

Rama and Lakshman following Jatayu's directions, came upon Shabri an old woman who lived in sage Matanga's ashram. Sage Matanga had told Shabri that one day her devotion to Lord Vishnu would be blessed by an appearance of Lord Rama. Shabri waited many years for that day and her joy knew no bounds when Rama stepped into her humble hut. Shabri tasted every berry presenting Rama with the sweet ones and throwing away the rest. Rama took each one and ate it with relish, honouring Shabri's love and devotion. Shabri tells Rama and Lakshman to proceed to Rishimukh Parbat (mountain) where they would find Hanuman. So they set off to find him.

Hanuman was an ape like humanoid who was the avatar of Lord Shiva. Whenever Lord Vishnu takes a birth on Earth, Lord Shiva does too for they are each other's devotees.  Hanuman was born to serve and help Rama. Their meeting on Earth so Divine and endearing. Hanuman's eyes filled with tears of joy as he beheld his beloved Rama. Rama's heart full of peace knowing that with Hanuman by his side, finding Sita was a definite outcome and only a step away

And so the search begins. The vanars go off in different directions to find Sita. Rama has unquestionable faith in Hanuman that he will be the one to find her. And so he gives his ring to Hanuman so that Sita would be reassured that Hanuman was indeed Rama's messenger. And Hanuman departs unhesitatingly, prepared to take on any burden to find Sita.

Sita in the Ashok Vatika pines for Rama. Surrounding by fearful demonesses, Sita is scared. But she finds a kind and loving soul in Trijata who was chosen by Ravana to guard Sita and to influence her to accept him as her husband. Trijata protects, loves and cares for Sita as if she was her own daughter and keeps the fierce demonesses away from her.

I don't think it was mere chance that Rama and Lakshman came to Shabri's hut nor was it chance that Shabri directed them to Rishimukh Parbat. And it was definitely not mere chance that of all the fierce and scary demonesses, Trijata was chosen to guard Sita.

In our travels through life, we meet many beings. Some great and some small, some who look beautiful some who do not. No encounter is by chance. We are often drawn to those who are great and beautiful, but those who are small and not so beautiful looking are often our helpers in life. Help often comes from most unexpected sources in the most unexpected ways. Rama and Sita looked beyond the status, beyond the looks and into each soul. They venerated each loving soul.

Will Hanuman find Sita?  That will be brought by the letter W.

Love is in the air. May we love all creatures, great and small. May we look into the soul of each and venerate each loving soul.

Love is in the Air - Queen

Day 17 A to Z Challenge 2015 - Queen

The future queen blossomed
Rama's love chaste and pure
His care and love thus lessened
The hardships she had to endure

Rama protected the queen of his heart
Gently he did guide
He could not imagine them being apart
He was glad Sita was by his side

Rama loved Sita with every breath he took. He cared for her and tended to her every need. In the forest, he had nothing to offer Sita but his love and the gifts of nature.

Rama brought her flowers for a necklace, as an adornment for her hair, as bangles for her hands.  He brought her fruits and berries that they shared together in the moonlight. And each day he gave her a lovely lotus. Sita loved the lotus as does Goddess Lakshmi.

When the thorns pricked Sita's feet, he lovingly tended to them. When she was tired he would find a place for her to rest And when she was sad thinking of her sisters and home, Rama comforted her and brought a smile back on her face. Sita's smile gave Rama the greatest joy.

Sita never felt afraid or alone. She felt safe and secure with Rama and Lakshman by her side. They ensured that Sita was never left alone.

Rama was grateful that Sita was by his side. Though he had asked her to stay behind in the palace, Sita had refused the luxuries of royal life. For her the palace was a place of exile if Rama wasn't there with her and the forest was her palace if he was by her side.

We often equate our measure of love with the amount of wealth we pour onto each other, but love in its purest form is simple. And anything given that is heartfelt and with pure intentions, is true love as demonstrated by Lord Rama.

Rama, Sita and Lakshman spent 13 happy years in the forest. They had many adventures in visiting many learned sages in ashrams to battles with demons. And in a years time they would complete their exile and return to Ayodhya.

But soon life was to take a very different turn for them. That tale begins tomorrow with the letter R.

Love is in the air. May your love get you through the difficult times and lessen each other's load.

Love is in the Air - Protector

Day 16 A to Z Challenge 2015 - Protector

Forest life largely peaceful
The three made it their home
The wicked should be fearful
With Rama and Lakshman on the roam

Many disturbances often deadly
Rama destroyed them made the forest safe
Lakshman ever watchful and ready
By Rama's side his only place

So why did Lakshman choose to go with them?  Without Rama at the palace, Lakshman's importance would increase as it was Lakshman who accompanied Rama when Vishwamitra took them to continue their education and Lakshman had learned all that Rama had. And then there was Urmilla his wife to think of.

But Lakshman was prepared to sacrifice everything for Rama. He loved Rama with all his heart and soul. He simply could not imagine life without Rama. And he had the perfect counterpart in Urmilla who was the epitome of understanding. Her deep love for Lakshman would never question his decision and she would always stand by his side in the larger interests of others.

But most important of all, Lakshman's purpose on Earth was to assist the Lord. Lakshman was not only Rama's younger brother and devoted in serving him, but also his confidante, his wise counsel and when necessary also his protector. Lakshman took care of the dangers of the forest when Rama and Sita spent their personal time together or when Rama needed a rest after many battles.

Lakshman and Urmilla are true examples of selfless love and understanding who sacrificed their personal lives for the good of others. Urmilla loved her sister Sita dearly and served both Sumitra (her mother-in-law) and Kaushalya (Sita's mother-in-law) with love and care.

And Rama loved them dearly too. Urmilla gave him peace of mind that his mothers Kaushalya and Sumitra would be taken care of by Urmilla. His kingdom would be looked after well by Bharat in his absence and Shatrughan his younger half brother and Lakshman's twin would protect his kingdom until his return.

Even though Kaikeyi hatched the plot for Bharat to be king, Bharat loved Rama so dearly that he refused the kingdom and instead administered it at Rama's request until his return.

But Sita and Lakshman were his dearest. Sita was his cosmic breath, his power and strength, and Lakshman was his armour.

Rama needed them all in his earthly incarnation to bring peace on Earth. Rama started that process by bringing peace to the forest and protecting all who lived in it (creatures great and small) by ending the reign of many evil influences.

But did Did Rama and Sita's love blossom in the forest?  That story brought by the letter Q.

Love is in the air.  May you find love in many forms and may all your relationships be loving and understanding  like Sita and Rama's, like Lakshman and Urmilla's, like Rama and Lakshman's, like Sita and Urmilla's.
