Oprah's 2nd Question
The Watched/Read It List
Right now, write down the name of the book you're reading and the last movie you saw. Keeping a list of all the books you have read and movies you have seen will help you remember where your mind has been and also, over time, will reveal your changing tastes and moods. Like any journal, the list will start to show you your own patterns. It must mean something, for example, that every 10 years you go through a vampire stage, then a poetry palate cleanser, before diving into some classics. And if you keep a list, you won't ever have to reread the first hundred pages of Finnegans Wake before realizing why things seem so familiar.
The book I have just finished reading is "Dying To Be Me" by Anita Moorjhani. I have mixed feelings about this one. There were a couple of pearls within it, but somehow overall she told me nothing new.
The book I am currently reading is "Signals From The Soul" by Ann Mueller. Again some pearls, and some parts that made me feel very uncomfortable (almost felt like she was trying to gain a lot of sympathy - got that from Anita's book as well).
The book lined up to read is "Miracles Happen" by Dr Brian Weiss. I love his books. They are a delight to read because they are so easy to read and they always leave me feeling happy. Looking forward to reading this book.
The last movie I saw - Sleepless in Seattle - just a couple of days ago on TV. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan are my favourite actors so any movie of theirs is a must watch. I've lost count of how many times I've seen this one.
Happy Reading, Happy Watching

Suzy, Hello! Good evening from CT! One graduate application I looked at one time actually had this as a type of question: what is one book that inspired you over the last year? I never applied but started keeping a notebook for books I read, TV shows, movies, and plays...basically all things cultural. I scrapbooked for a while too but stopped due to the space commitment. It is fun to look back and see where I went and what articles caught my eye. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThanks Yourmindinbloom. I read on kindle now so kind of have an automatic list. Yes it is interesting how the year shaped up in reading. Wish you all the best for 2014 and thanks for visiting my blog.
DeleteI absolutely loved them in Sleepless in Seattle!! Have you seen them in "You've Got Mail"? When they get together they are pure magic! ♥
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy. Yes seen that too You've Got Mail is my absolute favourite movie. They're such a hoot together!
DeleteOkay about the books, have not read any of the ones mentioned, but like Kathy loves Sleepless In Seattle. And like Kathy I think they simply look awesome together- even in You've Got Mail! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou've got mail is my favourite movie. They are very cute together.
DeleteHavent read any of the books you have mentioned. But I am so looking forward to watch Sleepless in Seattle... have read so much good about this movie!!
ReplyDeleteHi Shilpa it is such a cute feel good movie. Do watch it.
DeleteGreat idea, Suzy. I'm going to take Oprah's advice seriously. I already document my book reading via Goodreads. I hardly watch movies - but I'll keep a note from now on. I'm a big fan of Meg Ryan and when she teams up with Tom Hanks, you can't get any better can you? :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of the books you've mentioned. Must try out Brian Weiss soon.
Me too Corinne. My books are all on kindle so that's "documented" but I never document movies as, like you, I don't watch that much. But Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan you are so right - you can't get any better. I love Brian Weiss' books. I've read almost all of the ones he's written.
DeleteI just saw The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and I loved it. It made me go back and read the short story again! Great idea keeping a journal of things you read and see in the theater!
ReplyDeleteThanks Karin. It's an interesting concept to go back and review what one has been reading and watching. Thanks for visiting my blog.
DeleteOoh, what a great idea. The last book I read is How to Be A Productivity Ninja by Graham Allcott and the last film I saw was Elysium with Matt Damon. Both were very good.
ReplyDeletewww.lifestyleandimage.co.uk
Thanks Carol. Productivity Ninja and Elysium both sound interesting titles. Will look them up. Thanks for visiting.
DeleteGood morning from England!
ReplyDeleteI have a kindle, so it sort of keeps track itself!
Mine too Sophie. Welcome to my blog, Thanks for visiting.
DeleteI love Dr. Brian Weiss...his writing makes you believe. Many lives many masters I have recommended to so many :) and recently I read his 'Only love is real'. Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks my fav...love the movie :)
ReplyDeleteHigh-5 Aditi. Both those books are on my favourites list. If you haven't read Messages from the Masters and One Soul Many Bodies, do read them. I loved those too.
DeleteHave always loved the meg ryan and hanks combo. They make a good couple
ReplyDeletePhenoMenon

Ya they are a great couple. Thanks Pheno.
DeleteSleepy hollow is a fab movie! And as for the books, I trust your words on the ones I haven't read. But yes Brian Weiss I haven't read but I know they are all too good!
ReplyDeleteRicha
Hi Richa. Both books have also received some great reviews. I am still reading Ann's book and there are some very interesting and thought provoking ideas in it. Brian Weiss is one of my favourite authors and all who I have recommended / lent my books too have loved them.
DeleteDr. Brian Weiss happens to be my favourite too Suzy. and I have read this one. It is superbly written as always!
ReplyDeleteI loved this movie and also you've got mail :)
High 5 Privy. I've just started reading it and so far it's great.
DeleteHaven't read the books mentioned by you. finished reading Mrs. Sudha Murthy's ;The old man and His God'and loved for her simple style of writing.
ReplyDeleteAm reading Mr. Sampath': The printer of Malgudi'by R,K,Narayan which is rich in literary terms.
Will look up Sudha Murthy's book. I used to watch Malgudi days when I lived in Mumbai many many moons ago. I think I even read the book but that was a long time ago
DeleteI have not read Brian Weiss...Maybe I will read him next...I love Sleepless in Seattle too and I love Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan in You've got Mail too!
