Day 26 A to Z Challenge 2015 - Zillion

God and Goddess reunited
A zillion hardships braved with zeal
Their plan to save mankind completed
Now time for love and time to heal

Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi
Love all creatures great and small
And if you seek peace and eternity
In their sharan (shelter / refuge) you must fall

Rama and Sita return to Ayodhya where Rama is crowned the king. The festival of Diwali celebrated by Indians all over the world, marks the event when Rama arrived into Ayodhya.

Though the Ramayana is a chronicle of the life of Lord Rama, it conveys many messages. It's key messages are of love, peace and forgiveness, of overcoming difficulties, of giving chances, of courage and hope, of devotion and friendship, of humility and honouring promises. 

Lord Rama's name brings us peace and bliss. May you feel it too in saying his name.

Kahahi Sunahi Bahu Vidhi Sab Santa

Lord Rama (Hari) is infinite (Ananta), and so are the stories (Katha) about his glory

Love is in the air - Yearning

Day 25 A to Z Challenge 2015 - Yearning

Sita's yearning finally ceased
Her face with love aglow
Her joy at seeing Rama increased
Past year now forgotten so

Rama looked with love at his beloved
Heart bursting with joy and pride
For his Sita strong and so devoted
Was finally back at his side.

Sita and Rama delighted at being reunited, embraced each other. Tears of joy flowed from Sita's eyes, she felt at peace, and in his arms she felt his bliss. Her faith was unwavering that Rama would find and rescue her. Rama's heart overflowing with love and his joy knew no bounds. His Sita was finally back at his side. Nothing else mattered. 

It is at this point that the Rama Sita controversy begins. Did Rama trust Sita, did he put her through the agni pariksha (fire test)?  In my meditations, what's revealed to me is that Rama and Sita had a love so deep that it is incomprehensible to us and unshakeable faith and trust in each other. Each action that they undertook, they took together. Rama and Sita could never hurt each other and the questions that filter through my mind are: 

• Do you really think that Divinity would doubt each other?  
• Do you think that Sita would've waited for Rama if she didn't believe and trust that he would come for her?  
• Do you think Sita would've lived if Ravana had touched her? 
• Do you think the heavens would've allowed that?
• Do you think that Rama would've searched for Sita if he ever doubted her love and faithfulness?  

Sita would have never have given herself to Ravana and strangely Ravana would never have touched Sita. His pride would not have allowed that - he wanted Sita to surrender to him of her own accord for that would hurt Rama the most. Sita would have given up her life if Ravana had touched her just as she had done as Vedvati in a previous life when Ravana had tried to molest her. And Rama knew that.  Questioning Sita's purity never even crossed Rama's mind. 

We forget that Rama and Sita were aware of their divinity, they just never used their divine powers and always lived within human limitations.

So as per human nature, when we try to find the flaws in Rama and condemn him, may we ponder a moment on the questions that have been given to me.

Love is in the air.  May we have that unshakeable faith and love for the Divine as Sita did for Rama and Rama did for Sita. And may we never forget that love.

Love is in the air - eXit

Day 24 A to Z Challenge 2015 - eXit 

Ravana knew not who he faced

He laughed at the man with the bow

But death was ready to him embrace

At Rama's command from below

At last the demon fell to his death

As arrows pierced his body

Rama gave him due respect

Divine love even for the enemy

Ravana could not see the divinity in Rama and thought himself invincible. Rama gave Ravana many chances to surrender Sita.

Ravana was highly knowledgeable and intelligent but lost his way and used his knowledge and intelligence in the wrong way.  Rama gave Ravana many chances to surrender Sita and tried to get him back on track several times and only destroyed him when the demon stubbornly refused.

It was only at the point of death that Ravana realised that he faced Lord Vishnu in the form of Rama. As he fell he looked at Rama and called out his name. The ever forgiving Rama gave the demon due respect. Divine love shining through for all.

Lord Rama's name is bliss. It brings us peace. He loves us unconditionally and forgives us if we truly repent our misdeeds, seek forgiveness and takes steps to redeem.

So how will Rama and Sita react when they face each other again? Brought by the letter Y.

Love is in the air. May you always feel that Divine love. May His name always bring you peace. May you use your knowledge wisely.

Love is in the Air - War

Day 23 A to Z Challenge 2015 - War

Hanuman watches silently

While Ravana threatens Sita

Gives her Rama's ring obediently

When the demon angrily leaves her

The demons set alight his tail

He sets the city on fire

Hanuman's mission never will fail

For Rama he'll never tire

Divinty joining forces

What chance did Ravana have

Both sides suffered many losses

Rama's heart for both was sad

Rama asked Ravana to surrender Sita

Forgiveness even for his foe

But Ravana's pride was off the meter

He was sure he would win and show.

After many days of searching, Hanuman finally finds Sita in the Ashok Vatika in the island of Lanka and assures Sita that Rama would soon arrive to free her. Hanuman is disturbed to find Sita in a very sad state and Ravana threatening her.

He allows Ravana's men to capture him so he may have an audience with Ravana and convey Rama's message. Hanuman asks Ravana to release Sita and surrender to Rama, but the arrogant Ravana laughs at Hanuman and asks his men to set his tail on fire. Hanuman ceases the opportunity and sets the city alight as a warning to Ravana. But Ravana does not heed that warning.

Rama eventually reaches Lanka and tries again to reason with Ravana via another messenger Angad but Ravana was so sure that he would kill Rama that he challenges Rama to fight for Sita. The war breaks out and there are many losses on both sides. Rama feels sadness for all who die or are hurt, and all through the war he tries to reason with Ravana.

All through our lives, we get many chances to redeem ourselves. But so often we think that our actions are correct and we don't try to see the other's point of view. Rama gave Ravana many chances to surrender Sita to him and was ready to forgive him. Often we think that admitting defeat and correcting our actions shows us to be losers and pride gets in our way. But in fact it takes a lot of courage to admit and reform. And forgiveness does not mean we condone the action or become best friends again. Forgiveness means that the action no longer affects us.

How will it all end?  In my X post.

Love is in the air. May we learn to admit our mistakes and correct them. And may we be gracious to forgive those who wrong us. For forgiveness is akin to divinity.

Love is in the Air - Veneration

Day 22 A to Z Challenge 2015 - Veneration 

Veneration: a feeling of profound respect for someone or something; 

Shabri tasted berries

Sweet ones she gave to Rama

He ate them with such relish

And filled her heart with bliss and calm

Rama and Lakshman searching

Came upon Hanuman

A moment so endearing

Shiva Vishnu's earthly plan

The Vanar (ape like humanoids) army ready

The search for Sita starts

Rama's faith in Hanuman steady

His ring and love for Sita he imparts.

Trijata a loving heart
An angel in disguise
Deceived her cruel king and played her part
Sita to protect and comfort her cries

Sita had prayed that the heavens help Rama and Rama had prayed the heavens protect Sita. And so they moved heaven and earth to answer the prayers of their beloved Rama and Sita.

Rama and Lakshman following Jatayu's directions, came upon Shabri an old woman who lived in sage Matanga's ashram. Sage Matanga had told Shabri that one day her devotion to Lord Vishnu would be blessed by an appearance of Lord Rama. Shabri waited many years for that day and her joy knew no bounds when Rama stepped into her humble hut. Shabri tasted every berry presenting Rama with the sweet ones and throwing away the rest. Rama took each one and ate it with relish, honouring Shabri's love and devotion. Shabri tells Rama and Lakshman to proceed to Rishimukh Parbat (mountain) where they would find Hanuman. So they set off to find him.

Hanuman was an ape like humanoid who was the avatar of Lord Shiva. Whenever Lord Vishnu takes a birth on Earth, Lord Shiva does too for they are each other's devotees.  Hanuman was born to serve and help Rama. Their meeting on Earth so Divine and endearing. Hanuman's eyes filled with tears of joy as he beheld his beloved Rama. Rama's heart full of peace knowing that with Hanuman by his side, finding Sita was a definite outcome and only a step away

And so the search begins. The vanars go off in different directions to find Sita. Rama has unquestionable faith in Hanuman that he will be the one to find her. And so he gives his ring to Hanuman so that Sita would be reassured that Hanuman was indeed Rama's messenger. And Hanuman departs unhesitatingly, prepared to take on any burden to find Sita.

Sita in the Ashok Vatika pines for Rama. Surrounding by fearful demonesses, Sita is scared. But she finds a kind and loving soul in Trijata who was chosen by Ravana to guard Sita and to influence her to accept him as her husband. Trijata protects, loves and cares for Sita as if she was her own daughter and keeps the fierce demonesses away from her.

I don't think it was mere chance that Rama and Lakshman came to Shabri's hut nor was it chance that Shabri directed them to Rishimukh Parbat. And it was definitely not mere chance that of all the fierce and scary demonesses, Trijata was chosen to guard Sita.

In our travels through life, we meet many beings. Some great and some small, some who look beautiful some who do not. No encounter is by chance. We are often drawn to those who are great and beautiful, but those who are small and not so beautiful looking are often our helpers in life. Help often comes from most unexpected sources in the most unexpected ways. Rama and Sita looked beyond the status, beyond the looks and into each soul. They venerated each loving soul.

Will Hanuman find Sita?  That will be brought by the letter W.

Love is in the air. May we love all creatures, great and small. May we look into the soul of each and venerate each loving soul.

Love is in the Air - Unwavering

Day 21 A to Z Challenge 2015 - Unwavering

Jatayu watited for his Rama
To give him an important clue
On hearing this Rama lost his calm
And roared to Ravana mrityu (death)

Sita unwavering and scornful

Ravan's rage at the point of harm

Meditative and thoughtful

Her soul reached out to Rama

Through veils unseen Rama felt her beseech

He looked up towards the heavens

Commanding all to Sita reach

Protect her from the demons

Ravana carried Sita over the sea in his Pushpak Viman (aircraft) to his golden city of Lanka. On the way the vulture king Jatayu tried hard to save Sita but Ravana cut off his wing and he felt to the ground critically injured. The dying Jatayu waited for Rama to provide him with the details of Ravana forcefully taking Sita, Sita crying out for Rama and the direction they went in.

On hearing this Rama is both sad and very angry. He cannot bear the thought of Sita scared and crying out in fear, pleading with the demon. With a twang of his bow that rocked the earth and shook the skies and reverberated across the Universe, Rama vows death for Ravana. Citizens of the Universe rejoice, for hope arises that Ravana's reign of terror will soon end.

Ravana took Sita to his island of Lanka, He placed her in the Ashok Vatika (garden) guarded by fierce looking demonesses. He tried very hard to win Sita, but Sita loved only Rama. Ravana was beginning to lose his patience. He was agitated and getting angrier by the day. In contrast Sita was firm but calm. Sita's soul reached out to Rama. She had every confidence in Rama that someday he would come and rescue her. Sita found strength and solace in meditation.

Rama could sense Sita reaching out to him. Though we are all in physical manifestations, a part of our spirit remains in spirit world. When we connect with our higher selves, it is our spirit we connect with. Rama tapped into his own and Sita's spirit - Vishnu and Lakshmi - and prayed for Sita's safety. And the heavens moved to Rama's command.

Sita prayed that Rama would find her and that he would find helpers along the way. And the heavens moved to Sita's command.

How did the heaven's move?  That's  brought to you by the letter V.

Love is in the air. Know that whenever we ask the Divine for help, it is always lovingly given though it may not be in the way we expect. And know that there are helpers on the other side taking care of us.

Love is in the Air - Trickery

Day 20 A to Z Challenge 2015 - Trickery

Ravana vowed that spurn to avenge

A golden deer he sent

Rama took up the challenge

For Sita's heart on it was set

Rama's arrow struck the golden deer
It screamed out mimicking Rama
Sita anxious filled with fear
Sent Lakshman without a qualm 

Ravana watched Lakshman leave his guard

Then Sita he did trick and abduct

Rama heartbroken and alarmed

His soul into pieces struck

Divinity forgotten

Forgetting divine plans

Rama grief stricken

Fell to his knees with head in hands

Had to write 4 verses for this one, I just couldn't compress it into 2.

Shoorpnakha took her sad tale to Ravana. She knew that Ravana would be furious and would attack Rama. But she wanted Rama and she thought the only way she would get him was if Sita was no longer in the picture.

Women were Ravana's weakness so Shoorpnakha spoke of Sita's beauty. She cleverly ignited his desire for Sita. And so Ravana went to abduct Sita.

But that wasn't an easy thing to do if Rama and Lakshman were at Sita's side so Ravana engaged in trickery. He ordered a shape shifting demon Mareech to change into a golden deer and lure Rama away from the hut. As expected Sita was enchanted by the deer and asked Rama to get it for her. Rama sensed something was afoot as a golden deer seemed unreal but Sita was adamant and Rama could not refuse. Mareech lured Rama a safe distance from the hut and then as Rama's arrow struck him, he cried out to Lakshman and Sita.

Sita was in such a state of panic that she would not listen to reason. Rama had ordered Lakshman to guard Sita and not move from her side. But Sita fearful for Rama, sent Lakshman to help Rama. She had no fear for herself only for Rama.

Lakshman drew a protective boundary around the hut and asked Sita not to step outside the boundary. As long as she stayed within, she would be safe. Ravana approached Sita in the disguise of a sage and asked for some alms. While she went inside, Ravana tried to cross the line but was unable to. So he waited at a distance from the boundary and asked Sita to step outside and serve him or face his wrath as a curse for Rama. Sita, fearful once again for Rama steps outside the protective boundary and is abducted by Ravana.

When Rama and Lakshman return, Sita is nowhere to be found. Rama finds fruits and flowers strewn outside the hut and fears the worst. His heart is shattered. He sinks to the ground in despair and loses his composure. Losing Sita was like losing his own life. Lakshman comforts Rama. In times like these, it is Lakshman who steps up and props Rama, who motivates him and encourages him not to give up.

One brother follows the path of revenge and desire, the other follows the path of love, motivates and encourages.

Love is in the Air - Spurned

Day 19 A to Z Challenge 2015 - Spurned

Shoorpnakha was on the prowl

Besotted by our Rama

But he spurned her love and honoured his vow

One wife to love and charm

Would he make her his beloved wife

If Sita she devoured

Rama showed his displeasure rife

When demoness foolishly enquired

Shoorpnakha was Ravana's sister. She had heard about Rama and his great feats and was on the lookout for him. But her intentions towards him were not good. She wanted to see him dead.

One day while she was on one of her tormenting rounds, she chanced to see a most beautiful man gathering flowers.  Shoorpnakha was enraptured by this man and she desired him so much that the shape shifting demoness, changed into the most beautiful and ravishing woman.

 She approached the man and tried her charms on him, but the man politely informed her he was married and walked away. But Shoorpnakha was so besotted by him that she could not let go and followed him to his hut.

On seeing him alone, she tried her charms again and was startled to find that he was the Rama she was looking for. His beauty swayed her mind to change from killing to seducing. But Rama had eyes and heart only for Sita.

Rama explained to Shoorpnakha that he had promised Sita he would only take one wife. On seeing Sita at the doorway of the hut, she tried to attack Sita in the hope that if Sita was killed, Rama would surely take her for his wife. Rama stepped forward to protect Sita, the expression on his face clear that he was annoyed with Shoorpnakha but Rama calm and graceful would not show his anger and would only reason with her politely. Lakshman however, watching from a distance, would have none of that and he came by to drive the demoness away.

In those ancient times, kings took several wives as had Rama's father Dashrath. Rama had watched his mother Kaushalya suffer in silence as she was neglected for Dashrath's younger and beautiful wife Kaikeyi. But Rama loved Sita with all his heart and soul and  vowed that he would not take another wife. His heart belonged only to Sita.

Shoorpnakha had left in a rage, silently vowing to avenge the spurn. Rama was thoughtful and ever watchful for he was sure that Shoorpnakha would not look kindly upon his actions. And he feared for Sita.

What would Shoorpnakha do now and were Rama's fears justified?  Those events in my post for the letter T.

Day 18 A to Z Challenge 2015 - Rogue and Radiance

On an island in the ocean

Stood a city made of gold

Love for citizens was not an emotion

Its mighty king did hold

Wherever he did travel
Ravana wreaked havoc
Selfish and tyrannical
Born to plunder and run amok

Beautiful and radiant
Rama peaceful like a dove
Caring and gallant
Born to show us love

Ravana the powerful and mighty king of Lanka was a tyrant and a cruel man. He did not care for the welfare of his people only of himself. His actions were all adharmic (unrighteous). His focus was on power and materialistic values. His actions were based on benefit to self only. He terrorised people wherever he went for he thought that power came from subduing people. The accumulation of wealth was his primary goal and he showed it off in building his city of gold. Ravana manipulated all situations so that the end result would be to his benefit.

Rama's actions on the other hand were always to the benefit of many, to bring peace, to reinstate dharma, all done with love and care. Even when Rama eliminated evil, Rama did it with Divine love. Rama felt a deep sadness in eliminating someone and always tried to get them to change their ways. He always ensured that the welfare of others was paramount.  And he always kept his promise.

Rama lived within human constraints, never using his Divine powers. He showed us all that we can achieve everything we want to if we so desire, but that our actions should be done in love and for the benefit of many.

Rama and Ravana's paths were soon to cross but along the way Rama had to face many tests himself, of patience, dharma, friendship, loyalty and faithfulness.

And soon Rama's love for Sita and his faithfulness to her was to be tested. How will he face that test? Coming up in my S post.

Love is in the air. May your actions benefit many and may they bring you peace.

Love is in the Air - Queen

Day 17 A to Z Challenge 2015 - Queen

The future queen blossomed

Rama's love chaste and pure

His care and love thus lessened

The hardships she had to endure

Rama protected the queen of his heart

Gently he did guide

He could not imagine them being apart

He was glad Sita was by his side

Rama loved Sita with every breath he took. He cared for her and tended to her every need. In the forest, he had nothing to offer Sita but his love and the gifts of nature.

Rama brought her flowers for a necklace, as an adornment for her hair, as bangles for her hands.  He brought her fruits and berries that they shared together in the moonlight. And each day he gave her a lovely lotus. Sita loved the lotus as does Goddess Lakshmi.

When the thorns pricked Sita's feet, he lovingly tended to them. When she was tired he would find a place for her to rest And when she was sad thinking of her sisters and home, Rama comforted her and brought a smile back on her face. Sita's smile gave Rama the greatest joy.

Sita never felt afraid or alone. She felt safe and secure with Rama and Lakshman by her side. They ensured that Sita was never left alone.

Rama was grateful that Sita was by his side. Though he had asked her to stay behind in the palace, Sita had refused the luxuries of royal life. For her the palace was a place of exile if Rama wasn't there with her and the forest was her palace if he was by her side.

We often equate our measure of love with the amount of wealth we pour onto each other, but love in its purest form is simple. And anything given that is heartfelt and with pure intentions, is true love as demonstrated by Lord Rama.

Rama, Sita and Lakshman spent 13 happy years in the forest. They had many adventures in visiting many learned sages in ashrams to battles with demons. And in a years time they would complete their exile and return to Ayodhya.

But soon life was to take a very different turn for them. That tale begins tomorrow with the letter R.

Love is in the air. May your love get you through the difficult times and lessen each other's load.

Love is in the Air - Protector

Day 16 A to Z Challenge 2015 - Protector

Forest life largely peaceful

The three made it their home

The wicked should be fearful

With Rama and Lakshman on the roam

Many disturbances often deadly

Rama destroyed them made the forest safe

Lakshman ever watchful and ready

By Rama's side his only place

So why did Lakshman choose to go with them?  Without Rama at the palace, Lakshman's importance would increase as it was Lakshman who accompanied Rama when Vishwamitra took them to continue their education and Lakshman had learned all that Rama had. And then there was Urmilla his wife to think of.

But Lakshman was prepared to sacrifice everything for Rama. He loved Rama with all his heart and soul. He simply could not imagine life without Rama. And he had the perfect counterpart in Urmilla who was the epitome of understanding. Her deep love for Lakshman would never question his decision and she would always stand by his side in the larger interests of others.

But most important of all, Lakshman's purpose on Earth was to assist the Lord. Lakshman was not only Rama's younger brother and devoted in serving him, but also his confidante, his wise counsel and when necessary also his protector. Lakshman took care of the dangers of the forest when Rama and Sita spent their personal time together or when Rama needed a rest after many battles.

Lakshman and Urmilla are true examples of selfless love and understanding who sacrificed their personal lives for the good of others. Urmilla loved her sister Sita dearly and served both Sumitra (her mother-in-law) and Kaushalya (Sita's mother-in-law) with love and care.

And Rama loved them dearly too. Urmilla gave him peace of mind that his mothers Kaushalya and Sumitra would be taken care of by Urmilla. His kingdom would be looked after well by Bharat in his absence and Shatrughan his younger half brother and Lakshman's twin would protect his kingdom until his return.

Even though Kaikeyi hatched the plot for Bharat to be king, Bharat loved Rama so dearly that he refused the kingdom and instead administered it at Rama's request until his return.

But Sita and Lakshman were his dearest. Sita was his cosmic breath, his power and strength, and Lakshman was his armour.

Rama needed them all in his earthly incarnation to bring peace on Earth. Rama started that process by bringing peace to the forest and protecting all who lived in it (creatures great and small) by ending the reign of many evil influences.

But did Did Rama and Sita's love blossom in the forest?  That story brought by the letter Q.

Love is in the air.  May you find love in many forms and may all your relationships be loving and understanding  like Sita and Rama's, like Lakshman and Urmilla's, like Rama and Lakshman's, like Sita and Urmilla's.

Love is in the Air - Opportunity

Day 15 A to Z Challenge 2015 - Opportunity

Opportunity thought Rama and smiled

Affection for Sita to show

The palace walls were too confined

For love to play and grow

For Sita anywhere was home

If Rama was by her side

Her love for him like the sun it shone

No need now for it to hide

Lord Rama could have annihilated evil in so many ways. Did he really have to go into the forest? Why did Divinity choose this fate for Himself?

There were many reasons for this. Rama had more to learn about the harnessing of spiritual powers. He learned that from many ascetics he met in the forest. These were needed if he was to restore balance to the earth by the ending of evil. But annihilation of evil does not come from a single stroke, it needed to occur systematically.

But why did Sita have to leave the comforts of the palace and be with Rama? Sita, the daughter of Mother Earth, was at home in her natural surroundings. For her, home was where Rama was. Without him, she felt she was bereft of life itself. For Rama, Sita was his strength and life force. Soulmates incarnate for a common purpose, and God and Goddess needed to be together, their divine energies needed to be merged to complete their tasks on Earth.

But God and Goddess also arrived to experience and enjoy a human birth. Rama and Sita also came to experience love in human form and for that they needed to be away from the palace, away from the royal protocols, away from the multitude of people that came by their way every moment of every day. And what better than a secluded forest, far away from civilization. Not only did love between them need to be strong but they needed to unconditionally trust each other, for their love would be severely tested in the future.

Rama and Sita had a great love for not only mankind but all creation. Being in the midst of Nature was most conducive for spiritual understanding and for love to grow. There was a sense of freedom for them, like breathing in clean mountain air that invigorates.

And what about Lakshman? Why did he choose to go with them?  Those questions answered in my post tomorrow.

Love is in the air. May you find the perfect means for your love to grow and may it continue to grow.

Love is in the Air - Nexus

Day 14 A to Z Challenge 2015 - Nexus

Rama, Sita, Lakshman in simplicity

Set forth for adventures new

Fulfilling many destinies

Did Rama arrange this too?

Life often takes unexpected turns

Seems desolate and unfair

But blessings lie in many burdens

Though in your face they do not stare.

Rama and Sita embark on a new phase of their lives accompanied by Lakshman. They leave to begin their simple lives as ascetics in the forest. God and Goddess about to commence their journey to fulfil their Spiritual purpose on Earth - the annihilation of evil from the Earth. And along the way, helping to fulfil so many destinies.

In a previous incarnation Sita as Vedvati had cursed Ravana when he had attempted to molest her, that she would be the cause of his death in her next life.  Ravana was the mortal incarnation of a gatekeeper of Vaikunth the abode of Lord Vishnu. Having made fun of some young Brahmins, they cursed him to take a mortal birth. Only Lord Vishnu in a human incarnation could free him from the curse.

Dashrath's destiny and karmic payback lay in the separation with his most beloved son and a realisation that it was Kaushalya who was the divine mother and his strength. Unfortunately for Dashrath, this was the end for him, never to see his Rama again.

Kaikeyi's father's kingdom had been ravaged by demonic and evil men She vowed that one day she would be the cause of their annhilation. Divinity was on the way to fulfilling that wish.  Kaikeyi's moments of sad repentance and understanding of the wisdom within (and not without in the form of Manthara) and the true meaning of selfless love was to begin.

Kaushalya and Sumitra were to face their biggest test of forgiveness towards Kaikeyi.

Urmila (Lakshman's wife) demonstrated the true aspects of selfless love - understanding and sacrifice for a greater cause.

That one event that Kaikeyi started (in my Love Misplaced post)  commenced a series of events and intricately connected destinies. So many for God and Goddess to help fulfil. So many soul lessons to learn, so many sacrifices made. So much love God and Goddess showing for mankind.

How do Rama, Sita and Lakshman adapt to life in the forest?  That's brought by the letter O

Love is in the air. May we remember that in difficult situations lie great opportunities for spiritual learning and soul growth. May we have the faith that in the end life is as it should be.

Love is in the Air - Minds

Day 13 A to Z Challenge 2015 - Minds

Dashrath's mind in despair and turmoil

Kaushalya's in shock

Lakshman's rage shook the soil 

But Rama was stoic like a rock

Vishnu Lakshmi with a knowing nod

Prepared to leave together

King's action to people felt roughshod

But the divine plan was now or never

Dashrath was torn between queen and son. Unable to displease one he seals the fate of his son and signals the end for himself. A powerful king was brought to his knees by the selfish motives of another.

Kaushalya is in a state of shock. Having lost the king already many years ago to Kaikeyi, she is unprepared to lose her son as well. She begs Rama not to go or to take her with him. For the first time Rama sees Kaushalya lose her composure.

Lakshman, Rama's younger half brother and Queen Sumitra's son is well known for his fiery temper. Lakshman is devoted to Rama and any injustice towards him Lakshman cannot bear. Without Rama Lakshman cannot survive.  He was born to be at Rama's side

What might seem like tragic events to mere mortals are part of God and Goddess' great plan. Karma and many destinies are woven into these seemingly sad and unnecessary events.

Re-iterating my statement from my J post, the cosmos is like a musical orchestra and each note finely tuned to create the perfect melody. Each event has its moment in time and space. There are no coincidences and things do not occur by chance.

How are events connected, how are karma and destinies entwined? Will be brought by the letter N tomorrow.

Love is in the air. When events take place in our life that are difficult or that we feel are unwanted, may we remember that we are all part of a divine plan and that each of us have a part to play in karmic destinies.

Love is in the Air - Love Misplaced

Day 12 A to Z Challenge 2015 - Love Misplaced

Two boons she asked from days gone by

Given thoughtlessly by king

Lust destroyed Dashrath's honourable mind

And made him Kaikeyi's plaything

She ordered Bharat be made the king

Rama to the forest must go

Fourteen years of banishing

Would make her heart glow

Dashrath had given his young and favourite queen 2 boons for helping him in battle. Ask for anything he had told her but the young queen decided to hold off until another day.

King of course did not expect his young queen to ask for soul destroying boons. Over the course of many years the king had spoilt Kaikeyi. Every wish of hers had been his command. She threatened to end her life if he did not comply and he could not refuse her. Refusing her would have been tantamount to him declaring that he did not love her. 

Sometimes we make promises that are either impossible to keep or if kept can have devastating consequences. Sometimes we do this in the name of love. But is this love? Love does not destroy.

The irony of it all is that Rama was Kaikeyi's favourite son even though she was not his birth mother. Yet when a thought was planted in her head by Manthara that made her insecure, she lost the ability to think wisely. We should be careful of external influences that are not necessarily helpful to us and be wise to actions that we may regret in the future.

Kaikeyi thought she was doing this out of love for her son Bharat, Dashrath afraid his love would be questioned. This is misplaced love.

Love is in the air. May we be wary of unwanted external influences. May we look to the Divine, look within to find what we need.
