My theme for the 2017 AtoZ Challenge is "Daily Thoughts".
Each day I will post a thought that comes to mind. The first word of the thought will correspond with the letter of the day.

Kite flying is an art but a little but a little wind is required
In other words, although we need the skills to do a job, a little bit of luck and helping hand is also required.
I know there will be a lot of people who will say we make our own luck - yes we do to some extent but I still believe there's a little bit of luck involved.
Some years ago I went for an interview and it went exceedingly well. But I didn't get the job. The feedback was that both candidates were equally good, they couldn't make up their minds but eventuallly chose the other candidate. There has got to be an element of luck in there - was that candidate lucky or was I lucky is a matter of perspective because soon after I got another job that I enjoyed immensely and paid more!
I'm running late on my post today and poetry escapes me. No luck today with that :)
What do you think? A little wind is required for kite flying?
If you do leave a comment, make it easy for me and leave a link to your blog / post.

I little wind is definitely required for ideal kite flying, unless you're willing to keep on running constantly. The wind may sometimes be luck, but sometimes I think it comes as help from another source, sometimes a friend or loved one, sometimes a stranger, and ultimately, I believe, from God. Still enjoying your posts!
ReplyDeleteThanks Marcy. You articulated my thoughts perfectly. Glad you are enjoying my posts.
DeleteI agree we need a bit of luck and it was just that as there was something better for you in store. We never know why something doesnt work out for us; not even when something better comes along!!! There is a design in the way our life works- we just need to go with the flow but so often all we do is push against it and end up so damn miserable!!!

Thanks Shalini. You outlined my beliefs so well. We don't know the grand plan so we should just go with the universal flow. Paddling upstream is a waste of time.
DeleteWe do need a bit of luck as even after our best efforts we might not be successful. The best thought is to do our best and hope for the best
ReplyDeleteKindness
Thanks Neha. I tried to leave a comment on your blog but was unable to so will leave it here. A very heartwarming story of a random act of kindness. So good to know that such souls do exist
DeleteI think that luck is a factor, but you need to take the first step. You can't fly a kite if you don't run with it first.
ReplyDeleteGreat post!

Sylvia @ The Creative Life
So true Sylvia. Even luck can't help you if you don't take the first step. I hope you feel better soon
DeleteDefinitely believe in luck. I know some people dismiss it, and say that owing anything to luck diminishes your hard work. But that's not necessarily true, a good example being your interview story.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sreesha. There is an element of luck or hand of God in all things.
DeleteI've just learned to fly a kite (that is also the word I chose for today's #AtoZChallenge post). I agree that a bit of wind is needed. But not, you don't need to run, just to prepare it in the right way :D
ReplyDeleteI love your picture.

Eva - Mail Adventures
Thanks Eva. Yes many factors need to come together before you can successfully fly a kite. Thanks for dropping by. Enjoying your postcard series.
DeleteCall it luck or fate - we make our own luck but there has to be something else beyond that. And, speaking of kites, I was never good at flying them. I haven't tried since I was a child. Perhaps it's time for me to learn the skill.
ReplyDeletethanks Alana. I truly believe that there is something beyond our efforts. If all rested solely on us, all of us who are determined would reach all our goals - and life is simply not like that.
DeleteOh yes, a little wind is certainly required for flying a kite. I have seen that it's not 100% efforts that gets you there, a bit (and sometimes large dollops of it) of luck is certainly needed.
ReplyDeleteYes large dollops sometimes. Thanks Shilpa
DeleteI had the exact same experience when going for a job a couple of years ago. They even did a second interview but the other person got it. A few weeks later I ended up in a job with better pay and better hours - so we both won.
ReplyDeleteLeanne | cresting the hill
Thanks Leanne. Luck on both sides best way to go.
DeleteLoved the analogy! Talent, hard work go a long way but we can all use a little luck.
ReplyDeleteCelebrating 'Women & their work' all April @NamySaysSo K for Kitchen Queen
Thanks Namratha Yes an element of luck does exist - that is my belief.
DeleteFor me, wind represents resistance or obstacles. Sometimes I think I want everything to run perfect and smooth, but obstacles provide opportunities for growth and can lift me higher.

Thanks Trudy. I never thought of that but that is so true - thank you for that perspective I love it when my thoughts trigger other thoughts.
DeleteWe need more than a good wind and good luck to fly a kite. You also need skill, a well balanced kite and an open sky!
ReplyDeleteVery true bellybytes - many things need to fall into place - just like in life.
DeleteI think a little bit of luck is definitely required. Or maybe its our thoughts that bring in our luck. Power of attraction, you know.
ReplyDeleteKeeping up with the challenge this week is going tough for me. I'm lagging behind. And I have to go for stock purchasing on Saturday! I need some of that luck! :P
Hey DO comment on my J post also please... I was late in posting yesterday, so you probably missed it!
Happy AtoZing!
Chicky @ www.mysteriouskaddu.com
Yes power of attraction definitely works. I'm lagging behind too Chicky. Have dropped by your post - was too tired last night to do any reading. Catching up today.
DeleteRajlakshmi I am so sorry I deleted your comment by mistake :( I meant to delete my reply. But I do have your comment on my ipad as it was cached so here it is:
ReplyDeleteI don't know if luck works. I get things but I have to work really hard. So probably being stubborn is my lucky charm :)
And long may your lucky charm continue Raj :) but perhaps there is another path that may not be so hard if you just let that one appear. Maybe being so stubborn may not be so lucky? Some food for thought.
DeleteDefinitely can't fly a kite without a breeze. Only God can send a breeze. I suppose we can observe and rely on meteorology to help us find the best day and place to catch a breeze.

Very true Barbara. All things occur with the hand of God. I truly believe that. Thanks for dropping by.
DeleteI do believe in luck. A little bit of wind in your favour never hurt anyone. I also believe your good luck increases with the hard work you put in.
ReplyDeleteThanks Aditi. Yes, need that wind otherwise kite flying can become next to impossible - applies to life too.
DeleteWhat a great sentiment, Suzy!
ReplyDeleteWe do need a little 'push' and some effort to accomplish some things. Sorry for being slow to respond!

I agree, Suzy. The most skilled kite flyer can't do much with his kite if there is no wind to aid him. We all need fortuitous circumstances in our lives.
