Live As If ... #atozchallenge letter L @AprilA2Z

My theme for the 2017 AtoZ Challenge is "Daily Thoughts".

Each day I will post a thought that comes to mind. The first word of the thought will correspond with the letter of the day.

So here is my thought for the letter L

Live as if everything is rigged in your favour
~ Rumi

I struggled with a thought for L, then as luck would have it someone posted the above on instagram. So that's the thought I'm going with today. And since less is more, I'm also going to make this post short.

I think Rumi was an amazing poet (one of my favourites). His poems are very spiritual and I think with the above quote, he really cracked the secret to what we call the law of attraction now.

Here's a poem I wrote some years ago as a tribute to Rumi called Writers Are Lovers

Oh Rumi
Ardent student of Tabrizi
Your poems soothe the soul

Spiritual ecstasy
Divine intimacy
An ode to Spirit
Does truly uplift

Devotion to love
Peaceful like a dove
Heavenly mysticism
Entwined in Him

Spiritually liberating
Life exhilarating
Immortalised in verse
With heartfelt verve

Oh Rumi
Ardent student of Tabrizi
A gift for those who seek their soul

~x~

Rumi gave us such an uplifting quote. Do you think you could give it a try - to live as if everything is rigged in your favour?

If you do leave a comment, make it easy for me and leave a link to your blog / post.

Life's Jigsaw - Quatrains and Quindecasyllabic

Life is like a jigsaw puzzle. Each little piece is an aspect of our journey through it. And when at last we find that last piece and fit it into place, we eventually see the meaning of this life.

UBC Day 19
The Q Piece - Quatrains and Quindecasyllabic

Having embraced the Universe's flow by paddling downstream
I also need to fearlessly take all that it throws my way
And believe whatever occurs is part of a greater dream
A greater purpose that is all part of the Lord's Divine play

Perhaps I must learn to live in solitude and contemplate
Perhaps I need to quiet the heart and mind to seek my soul
For connecting with Divinity to discover my fate
Is best done in solitude and silence with surrendered whole

Quatrain =  A quatrain is a stanza with four lines and a rhyme scheme. While a quatrain is only one verse, a quatrain poem can contain any number of quatrains (including one). definition from wiki how.

Quindecasyllabic = containing 15 syllables. (each of my lines has 15 syllables)

Some years ago I suddenly started writing poetry. The words just tumbled into my head. A year ago I started my poetry blog Reflections of my soul where I pen my poems, mostly with a spiritual twist.

When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy ~ Rumi

Somehow I think I am meant to write poetry for not only does it bring me great joy but I feel that river move in me.

May you find that river move in you too.

Life's Jigsaw - Grace

Life is like a jigsaw puzzle. Each little piece is an aspect of our journey through it. And when at last we find that last piece and fit it into place, we eventually see the meaning of this life.

UBC Day 8
The G Piece - Grace

Having learned the lesson of forgiveness sometimes in difficult and harsh ways, I am also reminded that we are constantly being showered by His grace.

Some years ago, I came across a youtube video where a guest speaker (forget who) read some Rumi poems. This one really stood out for me and Rumi became one of my favourite poets.

The wine of Divine Grace is limitless
All limits come only from the faults of the cup.

Moonlight floods the whole sky from horizon to horizon;
How much it can fill your room depends on its window.

Grant a great dignity, my friend, to the cup of your life;
Love has designed it to hold His eternal wine.

~Rumi~

The verse is a good reminder that God showers his love and Divine grace in abundance. But how much we are willing to receive is up to us.

Until very recently I was one of the many who found it real hard to accept a compliment or a gift graciously. But compliments and gifts are all part of His Divine grace. I have now learned to receive graciously and with gratitude.

And in doing that we not only bring the giver joy but we also send a message to the Universe that we are open and willing to receive.

May the cup of your life hold His eternal wine.

Que Sera Sera from a Quatrain

Written for the letter Q at ABC Wednesday

One of my favourite poets is Rumi and I often browse through his poems. Today I came across this one, Rumi's Quatrain no 5.

May the lover be drunk and disreputable the whole year!
May he be crazy, frenzied, and love-sick!
With sobriety, we suffer anxiety about everything.
But when we have become drunk, whatever is to be, may it be!

On some days one can read a poem and interpret it in quite a different way from what the poet intended it to be. I guess that is the beauty of poems. Each one finds a different meaning in the words, perhaps even different on different days.

Today the last 2 lines stood out for me on many fronts and reminded me that being anxious does not change the result of the outcome. Hence it is best to go with the flow, detach from the outcome because, que sera sera, whatever will be will be.

I really needed to remember that today!

And here it is ... Que sera sera - nicely sung by Doris Day.

Why I Write

"When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy" ~ Rumi

I write to share the insights of my soul and hope that someday somewhere someone will feel that river of joy move in them.

I write because I can connect to other worlds and live my dreams through my words.

I write so that I can chronicle my life and perhaps someday I will come back to my posts and live some moments again.

But most of all I write because when I do, I feel that river of joy moving in me.

Divine Grace

There were so many posts on Thanksgiving this week, I thought I would share a poem from one of my favourite poet's Rumi reminding us of God's Divine Grace.

The wine of Divine Grace is limitless
All limits come only from the faults of the cup
Moonlight floods the whole sky from horizon to horizon
How much it can fill your room depends on its windows
Grant a great dignity, my friend, to the cup of your life
Love has designed it to hold His eternal wine.

Question of the day - What is love?

I love this question even though it is probably one of the hardest ones to answer.

And the best way I can answer this is through some poems that I love as they say it best

And I think this one defines it perfectly for me (see link below to the blog post)

Love is when you truly delight in someone exactly as they are, and for no other reason.

Please share your thoughts. Thanks.
