#MondayMusings #IMC Halloween Or A Drink At The BAR

Do you celebrate Halloween?

I must confess that it's not a festival I have an affinity for. We never celebrated in India where I grew up though I had heard of it.

Here in New Zealand it doesn't seem to be that popular either at least where I live. Earlier there were many American and Canadian families in my street and while they were around there was a lot of Halloween activity. But the last few years it's been quiet and I don't see many kids going door to door. Nevertheless I keep a bag of lollies handy just in case.

Going door to door with bag in hand is not my scene and my kids weren't that keen on it either. But one year when my son was little, all the shops in a nearby mall held a Halloween evening for the kids. My daughter took him there and he enjoyed that.

On quite a different subject. The Blog-A-Rhythm group started by Shailaja Vishwanath who blogs at The Moving Quill, turned 1 on October 25th. So here's a cheers to the BAR. Through this group I have made many online friends and discovered new blogs. If ever I need someone, there is always someone who will reach out and show some love. And my blogs receive a lot of love too.  Thank you to all members.

#SeptemberChallenge #Faith and #Hope

Postcards from around the world for the #SeptemberChallenge.
Hosted by Everyday Gyaan

Greetings from my home.

Thought I would change track for today.

I've read many posts on hope and faith today and as I went through them the following words came to mind:

"Hope gives us the will and Faith gives us the strength to keep going"

Never lose hope and always have faith.

Linking to #MondayMusings. Today we have been asked to ponder on a mission statement for our blogs.  Here's mine that I've had for a while now

I dream because dreams make life worth living
I write to share the insights of my soul
I rhyme because poetry gives me great joy
I photograph to capture a moment in time to remember forever

My blogs are a reflection of these. I share the insights of my soul and my dreams through my blog Someday Somewhere (this blog), my poems at Reflections of my Soul  and my photos at Photos are Fun.

O Krishna - A guest post

Gayatri Aptekar is celebrating her 4th blogging anniversary and to mark that milestone, she is featuring bloggers via guest posts on her blog.

So when Gayatri asked me to be one of her guest bloggers I was so honoured.  And she made a special request for a poem.

Now poems for me are not something I can conjure up at will as I feel they are given to me from the other side. Of course I told Gayatri that would be no problem - ha! panic set in as I sat poised to write the words.

I tried to write some lines but really struggled. I can always tell that the poem isn't going to flow if the first line doesn't resonate with me. And after a few failed attempts, I sent up a silent prayer and down came the words ...

O Krishna play your bansuri (flute)
That brings me so much joy
That Universal melody
That makes my spirit fly

O Krishna ....

Read the rest of my poem on my guest post O Krishna on Gayatri's blog Outside the Kitchen Window and wish her a happy blogging anniversary.

Thanks Gayatri for giving me this opportunity and congratulations on four years of blogging.

Am I An Artist?

Dear Suzy

At some point in one's life a God given talent (that we all have in our unique and individual way) shines through, the artist's colours paint the landscape.

Sometimes this talent is teased out by teachers or mentors, by parents, siblings or friends and sometimes the Universe opens up the canvas to showcase one's artistry.

Perhaps it was at that moment when the teacher sidelined your attempts that the Universe stepped in and gave seed to the poet within.

But all things happen at the right time, in the right place, in the right way. A moment too soon or a moment later could change the course of destiny.

Believe that the Great Spirit moved within you to rhyme for nothing happens by chance. Your poetry blog  Reflections Of My Soul - My Poems  and being a featured poet at Poet's United are not random isolated incidents but all part of a great plan.

So be the poet that Spirit wants you to be, share the words with the world that He guides you to write, feel that river of joy move within you, romance with Spirit and trust that what is meant to be will be.

Happy rhyming.

A Link Post

For the Write Tribe Festival - Rediscovering your blogging groove

Day 4 - Link Post

There are many blogging linkups I've joined over the last 3 years.  If you're in a blogging dessert then one of the ways to get back into blogging is to link up with some blogging prompts.

Here are some of my favourites (other than The Write Tribe prompts)

ABC Wednesday -  A weekly Wednesday linkup. This is such a versatile linkup. You can post photos, poems, prose, songs. And there are some interesting posts to read too.

Ruchira's Wordless Wednesday - Post a picture and nothing more, or add a few words to make it a word-less Wednesday or write many words. There are no rules to Ruchira's Wordless Wednesday. And that's why I love it.

Thursday Photo Challenge  - Post a picture on the weekly prompt. Some very enterprising photographers in this group. The prompts are great too as they are generic and not rigid.

Six Word Saturday - Post six words that describe your life in that week.  You can leave it at that or write a long post. Your choice. Some very interesting bloggers in this group.

Sundays In My City - Say it in pictures on a Sunday. Again you can keep it short or tell a story. It's an enjoyable trip around the world.

Poet's United - A very versatile poetry site. Write a poem on their Midweek Motif prompt or just write a poem that comes to mind and link up on Sunday at their Poetry Pantry

Share some of your favourites and I hope I'll see you around at some or all of these.

Happy Writing.

UBC Jul 17 - Paying It Forward

Ultimate Blogging Challenge  and  NaBloPoMo - Day 17

Paying it forward brings it all back.

image from my facebook page Suzy's Ilation

Last year when I took part in one of the blogging challenges, I tried to feature posts each day that I enjoyed. When I finished the challenge, I found that paying it forward was the part that I enjoyed the most.

I've been thinking a lot lately that I haven't done that during this challenge (other than a post or two) so when The Write Tribe put up their prompt today, it was the perfect opportunity to combine a daily thought with paying it forward.

Paying it forward brings it back to you, but do it without any expectations. Blessings come when you do a deed selflessly.

So here's my list of 5 blogs that I've enjoyed visiting in the last 2 months:

I love Beloo's blog Let Beauty Be Your Constant Ideal. Her posts are spiritual and thought provoking and they resonate with my soul. Her beauty shines through her words. I also love her blog banner.

Sanch is Living Her Impefect Life and blogging about her delightful life adventures. I love blogs that showcase personal stories. There's something about real life stories that fiction can't match at all. Sanch's posts are easy to read and well written.

The Twinkle Eyed Traveller Rajlakshmi takes us on her travels around Australia. Her photography is spectacular but she also adds a personal touch through snippets of her thoughts and experiences and a sprinkling of her own pictures.

Cat's Catittude and Gratitude is a delightful blog as Cat writes with poetic flair and I love poetry. Her blog generally puts a smile on my face.

Francene's Blog Year 2014 is a new blog that I've found through the Ultimate Blogging Challenge. I love the way Francene writes. Her posts are thought provoking, with good tips and pointers, and personal experiences.

Happy reading.

Blog Love

Written for the Write Tribe Festival of Words #3 Day 2 -  Blog Love

Show some love to another blog or blogs by showcasing them on yours. Share with us why you love a particular blog or blogs. We encourage you not to include blogs of people in your circle – or people taking part in the Festival of Words

I'm taking part in the Write Tribe Festival of Words -3

In the world of poetry

Sumana Roy's blog Vision is one of my favourite blogs.

Sumana writes beautiful poems with a spiritual aspect to them that appeals to my senses and resonates with me. Each poem is simply written, visually stimulating and draws the reader in. There's never a moment when I've thought "what on earth does that mean" (something I do more often than not in reading poems).
Sumana shares her life story in an interview with Sherry Blue Sky.

In the world of photography I enjoy:

Magic Eye's Mumbai Daily.

Not only is Magic Eye a superb photographer but he also posts the most unusual pictures of my hometown Mumbai. I have learned so many new things about Mumbai and remembered my moments there. In short, I relive my Mumbai days through this blog.

Rajesh's My India Travel

Rajesh showcases India so beautifully with spectacular photos, a little bit of history of each. Such an interesting blog. Again, I learn so much of my birth country through this blog.

And then there is

Martha's Meditations Of My Heart

Martha can pick any situation in her life, anything she's observed, anything she's read and weave it into a meditation, a teaching. And her love for her Lord shines through her words. I consider myself a spiritual person as opposed to a religious person and I believe that my connection to the Great Spirit is best done in solitude and silence. But I always find some connection to Spirit through Martha's blog. Each post ends with a prayer that is delightful and apt and more often than not, it's just what I need to hear that day. The Lord leadeth me there.

I hope you will enjoy these blogs as much as I do.

My posts so far: Day 1

And in keeping with previous festivals, here are some Day 1 posts I enjoyed:
Kajal's Love Ballad:  We must've had some esp going on as our stories were so similar.
Kathy's Into the Sunset: A story about a daughter's love for her mother. Heart-warming and beautiful.
Roshan's Survivor's Secret Having faith in the charioteer of your destiny

Explaining the name of my blog

Today I have the honour and pleasure of hosting the Thursday Writer's Post Blog Hop #4 and I'm also sharing this post for the letter E at ABC Wednesday.

Initially I thought I would ask you all to write your thoughts on love, but everywhere I turn and every prompt this week seems to be related to Love.

Instead I will ask you all to write about something you love ... your blog.

Share with us why and how you chose the name of your blog and what it means to you.

When I started blogging publicly in 2011, I found it really hard to choose a name for my blog. So many names bounced around in my head, Suzy's blog, Suzy's thoughts, Suzy's ramblings, Suzy's notes - most uncreative and very dull. But nothing really came to mind that resonated with me.

And the more I racked my brains to think of something, the more elusive and hard it got.

Whenever I blog, I listen to music as it always relaxes me and helps the thoughts form in my head and so as I listened, the song "Someday Somewhere" floated by.

Someday Somewhere
You said hello
And walked into my life

"That's it" was the thought that came into my head. And that's how I named my blog.

It's the perfect name as each one of you who drops by my blog says hello and walks into my life. Some for just that moment in time, some now and then and some for much longer with whom a lovely friendship starts to form.

This song also has a special place in my heart as it reminds me of a time long gone when love was young and sweet.

As always I am convinced the Universe sends the answers our way and for me more often than not it comes through a song.

So write your post, link up here with the linky below and share with us the beginnings of your blog. I look forward to reading your post.

And while you're writing and sharing, enjoy the song ... Someday Somewhere

Have a joyful and love filled day.

Drop by my facebook page Suzy's Ilation and if any of your posts needs some tlc, add it to the goodwill thread there and I'll drop by and give it some love.
