Six Word Saturday - Meditation

Six Word Saturday

Meditation brings peace for a while

I love meditating. In the midst of turmoil, it brings peace to my mind for those few moments.

Yesterday was my dad's death anniversary and I've been restless and jittery since then. Don't know why.  I feel out of synch with the Universe today. So this afternoon I did a 15 minute meditation to clear any negative energies, release blocks. Wow that was so powerful.

I've been meditating for many years now but it's rare that I can feel something. I usually feel great after meditating but don't always feel or see anything. But today was a day to feel it.

When I started I could feel a huge weight just below my throat chakra - like a large, heavy hand on me. And then towards the end of the meditation I could feel it lift off. I've never had that before.

I felt great for sometime and then the restlessness started again. So I'll probably do it again tonight.

Please share your meditation stories and if you've had success with any specific meditations, please share them too.

Have a peaceful day. Om Shanti.

Travel and Food

“If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you might better stay at home.” ~ James Michener

is the prompt by Corinne at from7eight for the Thursday Writer's Post

Yesterday we went to Otaki a little town about an hour's drive from Wellington. We went fruit and vegetable picking and on our way back after spending an afternoon in the sun (and the sun in NZ really burns), we stopped by to have some  local home made ice-cream with fresh fruit.

Ice-cream on a hot day - Heavenly!
(my 6 words for 6 word Saturday)

Quite interesting to watch as instead of the usual fruit and scoops, this place blends it all together to create a thick smooth ice-cream. You choose the fruits, the ice cream flavour and any other toppings.

So I chose strawberries and bananas with chocolate ice-cream and topping of nuts. Came out with quite an interesting flavour. Predominantly strawberry with a hint of banana kind of as an after-taste.

Wherever I travel, I like to taste the local Chinese cuisine. Sounds crazy? Actually in each place the Chinese food tastes different. Perhaps I'm biased, but I think the Chinese food in Mumbai tastes the best.

Which leads me onto my favourite Indian food. And on each of my visits to India, these are the foods I enjoy and must have -  the yummiest food ever.

Enjoy your day and wherever you are, eat and be merry.

UBC Day 26 - Six Word Saturday - Not doing

Day 26 of the Ultimate Blogging Challenge and time for Six Word Saturday

Sometimes not doing is most advantageous

My friends and I were to meet up for a movie and dinner yesterday (Saturday)

We'd planned this for a week and we were all looking forward to catching up as we hadn't met up since before Christmas.

I offered to book the tickets as this was a popular movie "Life of Pi" and tickets were selling fast.

But something or the other came up and I never got around to booking the tickets (online). I felt quite bad as we were all eager to see the movie and I hoped that tickets would still be available.

So yesterday morning, I opened up the booking page and was contemplating which seats I should book when the phone rang. Unfortunately my friend wasn't feeling well and so would be unable to come along and asked if we could postpone our "girls night out" to another weekend.

Luckily I hadn't book the tickets as that would've been wasted. Obviously the Universe knew better.

Sometimes not doing, is most advantageous.

Have you had any moments like this where not doing has actually turned out to be advantageous? Please share your stories. Thanks

Have a great weekend

UBC Day 19 - Six Word Saturday - Blobbing out

Day 19 of the Ultimate Blogging Challenge and time for Six Word Saturday

Saturdays are my blob-out days - Really?

I got my hair cut this morning. Finally decided to let go of the long hair. I'm doing a lot of letting go this week! Just blissful now - all the weight is gone and it's easier to brush down and manage.

Did my grocery shopping - so that's done and dusted for the week.

Answered all my emails - a whole lot came through today from family scattered around the world.

Had a quick chat with my cousin in India.

Did the usual around-the-house clean up stuff as I have visitors tomorrow.  Thank goodness the weather isn't the best for doing laundry otherwise I would've had to do that too!

Had a lot of catching up to do with reading blogs and commenting - from the ones I read regularly to all those who comment on my posts - special thanks to all of you who keep me motivated to keep writing.

Lately I've neglected my other blog Photos are Fun so thought it was time to pick that one up again.

And I thought Saturday is my blob-out day! The day when I meditate (for longer than usual), watch a movie, chill with some music - basically disengage my brain from thought!

It's 10.00pm and I'm still writing - I think it is time to disengage the brain and truly blob.

I was going to watch "The Sixth Sense" tonight but my sixth sense tells me that's best watched during the day so will have to defer that to tomorrow or perhaps Monday as it is a holiday. Too late now to watch a movie anyway,

Enjoy your Saturday. Mine is nearly over!

UBC Day 13 - 6WS - Friendship

Day 13 of the Ultimate Blogging Challenge and time for Six Word Saturday.

Friendship - real or virtual, it's there.

At Queens Wharf Wellington

Corinne at Everyday Gyaan posted a really great topic and post on Friendship. I started to leave a comment that got waaaaaay too long so decided to blog about it instead. Corinne's question was:

Do you think we need to redefine friendship in this age of social media?

I decided to take a spiritual view on this and hence the basis for my answer.

People come into our lives for a reason - some stay a short while and some stay on forever. Some resonate with us and some don't. Some annoy us and some uplift us. But they all come into our sphere for a reason.

When I was young I had hundreds of pen pals. That was about 40 years ago. Some pals gave me great joy, some were just there to perhaps learn about a new country and it's culture. I still correspond with 4 of them and of these I have met 2 who visited me when I lived in India. These 4 wonderful people have journeyed with me through school, university, and all the other events of my life big and small, and I with them. I have the most amazing friendship with them. I cannot imagine my life without them.

I have connected with a wide variety of people through blogging. The same story repeats - some you resonate with, some you don't - but they are all there for a reason.  I have learned so much from each one's blogs - not just about them but about our world as well. I feel connected to them in some way.

Then there are the people I have met and known. Some of them I have known all my life and who are still in my sphere as dear to me as they were before. And then there are some I have met in recent times who are my dear friends now. Each of them brings a different experience into my life.

As we journey through life, our "friendship frequency" changes and with that the dynamics of our sphere. In the end it does not matter how they come into my sphere or the basis of their friendship. The how, breadth, depth and definition become irrelevant.

I love the words of this Elton John song that sum up my thoughts quite nicely:

There's a time for everyone if they only learn
That the twisting kaleidoscope moves us all in turn
There's a rhyme and reason to the wild outdoors
When the heart of this star-crossed voyager beats in time with yours
~ from Can you feel the love tonight

(using poetic licence here for star-crossed - as in across the Universe)

Enjoy the moments you share with each one - near or far, known or unknown, young or old, the ones you resonate with or the ones with whom you don't, long standing or new. For we are all connected and there are no chance "meetings".

When a blade of grass is cut, the whole Universe quivers
~ The Upanishads (Hindu philosophical texts)

I love this quote on friendship:

Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: "What! You too? I thought I was the only one.”
~ C.S. Lewis

Haven't posted a music post for a while so enjoy "Can you feel the love tonight".

Wishing you a day of uplifting moments and many friendships. And please share your thoughts on friendship.

UBC Day 6 - Six Word Saturday

Day 6 of the Ultimate Blogging Challenge

My Six Words for Saturday

Sunny, happy day - the abundance flows

It is of course Sunday here in NZ but will blog about a most awesome Saturday (yesterday).

Wrote to my sponsored kids - I write to them every few months so the new year just seemed to be the best time to start off the year's routine. A little gift of calendars sent to them too. Feels great.

Cleared out some clothes from the closet - I try to clear out every quarter - clothes I haven't worn for a while. Initially not easy but once done, very liberating.  I always hope someone else makes good use of them.

A basket of goodies from The Body Shop showed up in my letter box. No card, no name. And with it was a make up voucher for $45. Thank you whoever you are. I can feel the abundance start to flow.

And it was a sunny, warm day. Birds in my garden. Days like these always make me feel happy.

“Plant seeds of happiness, hope, success, and love; it will all come back to you in abundance. This is the law of nature.”
― Steve Maraboli, Life, the Truth, and Being Free

Hope you had a great Saturday

Six Word Saturday - Smiles

Yay - The Gods are smiling again

We've had such atrocious weather recently. It's like the sun just decided to sleep and the wind and the rain waged war on the earth (in my part of the world anyway).

But the last 2 days have been absolutely beautiful.

It's been warm and sunny, a cloud or two (oh so rare for Welly) and a nice gentle breeze (another rarity for Welly - it's usually blowing a gale here!)

So I am enjoying the sunshine and warm days. And I can spend sometime in my garden too. My garden is starting to look colourful again and I love walking barefoot on the grass and connecting with nature.

Hope the Gods are smiling in your part of the world too.

Six Word Saturday - Willpower

My willpower flew out the window

So all week I have been watching what I eat and getting back into the routine of exercise. Yay. I feel good already.

And then I walked into the supermarket - chippies on sale, a rainbow cake. Oh yum. Will power went bye-bye.

Or perhaps I should not be too harsh on myself and allow a little indulgence now and then.

Have a super weekend and check out some other entries at Six Word Saturday

Six Word Saturday - Rain

Raindrops keep falling on my head

So I just did me some talking to the sun
I said I didn't like the way he got things done
Sleeping on the job
Those raindrops keep falling on my head they keep falling.

This week we've seen the sun once. The rain's been pouring down, the wind gusting to gale force.

Yesterday as I was on my way home on the bus, the thought came into my head:  Are the Gods angry when the rain thunders down or are they blessing the earth with nourishment?

Either way, today I'm tired of the rain and the winds that are hammering my house all around.

A little sunshine would be nice. So c'mon Sun, please Show Your Face

Have a sunny weekend.

Six Word Saturday Sept 1 GBE2 Peace

Peace? definitely not the way today

Today is the first day of Spring in New Zealand and the day started out absolutely beautiful and serenely quiet.  Peace was the way, or so I thought.

Obviously my neighbours have other ideas.

I have one blasting out his music so loud that even though he's 3 houses away and all my doors and windows are shut, I can still hear the dreadful stuff loud and clear.

Another one has just started up his lawn mower and the planes are flying above as it's the Southerlies blowing today.

Even the birds are protesting with loud chirping.

Here's hoping all of you are having a peaceful day and let's hope soon peace will be the way today for me too.

Six Word Saturday August 25

Kiwi tucker - fish and chips tonight

It's been a while since we had fish and chips for dinner.  We used to have it every Sunday night.

Then one night the fish was very stale and tasted so bad. Put me off fish and chips for a while.

That Fish and chips shop closed down. Not surprised if they were selling stale fish.

Six Word Saturday 11 August

Enjoyed the warm weather and sunshine

We had nice weather most of the day after a week of wet, cold and windy days.

I think the ducks enjoyed the weather too. Two of them watched me unload the groceries out of the boot of my car and then tried to sneak into my garage.

I should've taken some photos!

Hope you all have a sunshiney day.

UBC 25 - Six Word Saturday

Post 25 for the Ultimate Blogging Challenge are my words for Six Word Saturday (yep it's Saturday in NZ)

Enjoyed the opening of the Olympics

Love watching sports so looking forward to all the events. But the opening show was great. Loved the humour - a little different from the usual stuff. And I loved the simplicity of the Olympic flame.
Nicely done London!

Enjoy the games

UBC 12 - Six Word Saturday

I'm having a blob out day

It's been a hard week at work. I really needed to stay Zen and just let things go.

And it's a cold, wet, windy day, one where you just want to curl up and read a book.

So it's a good day to just blob, do nothing, relax.

Wish you all a nice easy day too.
