Written for the Write Tribe Festival of Words #3 Day 1 - Write a piece of fiction consisting of exactly 9 sentences.
"Life can be so unfair" thought Belle as she stood behind the pillar of the ballroom and took in the grandeur of the hall and its occupants.
Her eyes slowly scanned each nook and cranny until they fell upon the handsome soldier who had once stolen her heart.
Eyes locked with his, they both delighted in that moment, while her thoughts drifted to a day when they were young and life was full of joy and freedom, love and passion ..
"Fly like the wind my beauty" whispered Belle to her beautiful black mare as she mounted her horse, her thoughts filled with Armand knowing he would be waiting for her under the tree with his pristine white shirt billowing gently in the wind, his sword dangling by his side.
Armand watched her come towards him, her dark hair flying wildly, her eyes shining with excitement, her pale skin flushed pink like a blooming rose.
She ran into his open arms passions flaring, hearts beating fast, their love setting the dusk on fire, yet sweet and tender.
The mare and the stallion pawed at the ground frisking around waiting for that moment when Belle and Armand would ride them again, fast and exhilarating like the wind, their hair flying, hearts beating in rhythm to the thunder of the hooves, racing together, side by side, towards their destiny.
"But destiny sometimes plays a very cruel game" thought Belle as she watched him dance with his lady while she sadly dropped her eyes, sighed and walked back into the kitchen. It was time to serve.

Warm Regards
a very poignant take for a 9 sentence story... unrequited love.
ReplyDeleteThanks Roshan.
DeleteDreadfully unfair. Sigh, I am a die-hard romantic! Beautiful words, Suzy :)
ReplyDeleteThansk Shailaja and yes agree dreadfully unfair. I'm a die hard romantic too but what to do - have to tell my dream the way it unfolded!
DeleteOh No! I don't like this kind of passion. It is so unfair when such feelings are not reciprocated. Wasted and hurtful. :(
ReplyDeleteJyothi often life is unfair, but in the larger scheme of things, life always balances out. Who knows, perhaps Belle finally found someone even better than Armand ... ponder on that one!
DeleteThat was a beautifully written fairy tale like story! Fate is cruel indeed :(
ReplyDeleteHappy to have found your space through Write Tribe :)
Thanks Aarthy and Welcome to my blog. Glad you liked my fairy tale.
DeleteYour fiction took me back to my good old days of school and college...
ReplyDeletesuch a romantic tale suddenly turned into a harsh reality....poor Belle!
Yes poor Belle indeed. Let's hope somewhere down the line she met her Prince Charming.
DeleteI was hoping for a happy ending till it crashed. But it happens in real life and the ditched one may not be poorer for it.As you have said in your comments she would have met her Mr.Right.
ReplyDeleteWe all like happy endings but life is often not like that. I do believe though that all things balance out thanks kParthasarthy for dropping by
DeleteI totally love that setting... but what a sad tale it was. Get her a Mr Right Suzy.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tulika will have to wait and see I wasn't going to finish this story but looks like I'm gonna have to :)
DeleteOh my - I wish it ended on a happier note. But then life doesn't always, does it?
ReplyDeleteA lot of folks here were hoping for a happy ending Corinne but you are so right life often has it's own plan
Deleteoh. unrequited love always makes me sad...
ReplyDeleteHow I wish Bella and Armand were together! But, I guess that's the reality in a lot of cases...
Yes Pixie a lot of us want Belle and Armand together but unfortunately that's the turn my story took.
DeleteI loved how it started with an everyday setting like outside the bathroom, and then "took off"... , and then "down" to serving in the end... What a lovely story, but yet so heartbreaking... Hope she will find Her Love ..:-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Eli. Glad you liked it. I'm sure she'll eventually find her love.
DeleteIt hurts when Destiny takes a rough course! A story beautifully packed into 9 sentences!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nibhz. Destiny has a mind of it's own. Who can fight it?
DeleteI dint see that twist coming Suzy
ReplyDeleteA lot of people didn't Mina. I tried to make it happy but the story lost it's punch when I did that.
DeleteYou've woven the story very beautifully, Suzy dear. The words speak for themselves, and we are all with Belle as she delves into her memories, hoping she would realise her love. Unrequited love is painful. Always. Loved this post :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sreeja. Glad you liked my post. Yes, we all hope Belle finds that love.
DeleteLove the last line, Suzy! A real twist…and reality can be quite far from the dream!
ReplyDeleteThanks Michelle. We never know where paths may lead, sometimes not quite the way we intend.
DeleteOuch! I hope she will fly to her destiny, maybe not the destiny she thought she would have with Armand, but with someone else.
ReplyDeletePerhaps Damaria. Sometimes we need to endure short term pain for long term gain. Perhaps that is Belle's fate too.
DeleteSuzy, Oh dear this story is so sad. Wish Belle finds true love again.
ReplyDeleteThanks Usha. I hope so too.
DeleteSo sad, like Kajal's story. :)
ReplyDeleteYes Vidya. Kajal and me had some esp going on that day.
DeleteBeautiful woven yet sad and heartbreaking!
ReplyDeleteThanks Juzta Mom. Glad you liked it.
DeleteWow!!!Beautifully written so much so that the whole setting came alive.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jini. Glad you could visualise and feel it all. That makes me happy.

Deleteso poignant, hope she finds her love soon.dxbnidblog
ReplyDeleteThanks Pastiche. I hope so too.
DeleteVery well written.hope her fairytale has a happy ending some day
ReplyDeleteThanks Jaish. Let's hope she does.
DeleteVery very much a reality.
ReplyDeleteAnd a sad one at that.
Knights in shining armours and swords are not always heroes.
Thanks Takeawalkinthewoods. Sometimes the one you least expect turns out to be the hero.
DeleteOh :( the setting was so magnificent and marvelous...but the end :(
ReplyDeleteThanks Aditi. I think I broke many hearts today. but glad you liked my setting.
DeleteSuzy!! Love the narration. But, the heart feels the pain of the main protagonist for being ditched.

ReplyDeleteThanks Amrit for your nice comment. Life sometimes truly isn't fair.
DeleteOh! That's so sad and terrible... the pain of the unrequited love!

Thanks Shilpa. Yes unrequited love is a hard one to overcome. Glad you liked my story.
DeleteBecause stories are not always hunky dory, dreams shatter in real life... wonderfully written Suzy :-)
ReplyDeleteRicha
Thanks Richa. Often dreams don't come true - probably because they aren't meant to.
DeleteWho said fiction isn't your forte Suzy. This one was so beautifully told :)
