A time for Caring and Cats? #atozchallenge #inthelockdown

In The Lockdown - Caring and Cats!

A few days ago, a couple of people posted on Facebook that they were happy to help anyone with food or transport.

It felt good to see that and to know that there are so many caring and kind people who are prepared to risk their lives to help others. It takes a lot of courage to do that. This is a big shout out to them.

So where did the cat come from? Well my cousin asked if my vlog for day 3 for the letter C was going to talk about cats!

Usually we see cats wandering around my garden but ever since the lockdown, there have been no cats at all - I guess they are in lockdown too.

Today's lines are from the Spanish version of Guantanamera. I thought they were very apt for my post today.

Boredom #atozchallenge #inthelockdown

A to Z Challenge

In The Lockdown - Breaking Boredom

At some point in time, we will encounter boredom while we are all in lockdown. Especially if the lockdown goes on for a few months. In New Zealand we have been asked to "stay within our bubble". Each bubble is generally your household. So eventually I expect a little boredom will set in.

I'm not sure how you will alleviate boredom if it strikes and I'm not going to provide suggestions because it is individual and personal.

My son has taken up baking muffins. He has a good hand for baking and I'm trying to persuade him to try his hand at baking bread or a pizza base.

My mother continues her knitting. She knits baby blankets and cardigans for the neonatal unit at the hospital. I've also been taking her for a walk around our garden. She enjoys that and gives her a short break everyday.

At the moment this challenge takes up my time after I finsh working so I am definitely not bored. I also plan to go back to my arts and crafts - I haven't done that for a while and I miss that. Crafting and art is very therapeutic.

And as a family we love playing board games in particular scrabble and card games. So now and then we sit together and play some games. Its a nice way to bond in a difficult time.

My daughter has her own bublle. Her puppy no doubt keeps them entertained and busy.

A to Z Challenge

In The Lockdown - A change is in the AIR.

COVID-19 has sent the world into turmoil.

At 11:59pm on Wednesday 25th March, New Zealand went into total lockdown. And it changed our lives!

Perhaps this will give us an opportunity to look at life differently or do new things. I decided to vlog each day to keep a diary of events which is a new thing for me. I have vlogged but rarely face to face. Vlogging gives me a routine and forces me to go out of the house and stroll around my garden taking in the vitamin D and fresh air.

Perhaps our way of living will change completely forever (and I don't mean in lockdown forever). I hope we will learn to honour and respect Mother Nature so we don't have to face her fury again.

And while we sit at home and perhaps ponder life, Mother Earth heals and renews herself and nature and the animals enjoy their time unhindered by us.

The effects of this pandemic are devastating and while we find something positive to keep our spirits high, let us not forget those who have succombed to this virus painfully, silently, and without their loved ones by their side. May they be at peace.

A change is in the air. Let's hope this teaches us to be more compassionate towards each other, towards Mother Earth, Nature and all living things. I hope we understand that we are all one (virus )does not discriminate) and I hope that we will learn to co-exist harmoniously with each other and with all who share our Earth. We owe this to those who gave up their lives in this terrible tragedy.
