Music Monday - The Rainbow Connection

The Rainbow Connection, made famous by Kermit The Frog,  is a very lovely and thought provoking song that is sung beautifully by Karen Carpenter.  She had such an amazing voice.

I often tried to find the meaning of  the "Rainbow Connection" and finally decided that it is anything you want it to be.

I think at different times of my life The Rainbow Connection for me means different things ...  connection with spirit and soul, a love connection, connections with family-friends-people, the meaning of life, my life's work, guidance, messages, answers to questions, memories, dreams ...

I thought I would share The Rainbow Connection with all of you today as we are so close to Christmas and so many wishes and dreams are being planned and hoped for

So here is Karen Carpenter's version:

And here is the finale of the song from the Muppets Movie (the first 2.5mins).
This version really summed it up for me.

So here's hoping and wishing that today or someday soon you will find all your "Rainbow Connections".

Warm Regards

Lyrics
Why are there so many songs about rainbows and what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions, and rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it. I know they're wrong wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection. The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Who said that wishes would be heard and answered when wished on the morning star?
Someone thought of that and someone believed it. Look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing and what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection. The lovers, the dreamers and me.

All of us under its spell. We know that it's probably magic.
Have you been half asleep, and have you heard voices? I've heard them calling my name.
Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors? The voice might be one and the same.
I've heard it too many times to ignore it. It's something that I'm supposed to be.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers and me.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers and me.

Muppets Finale lyrics
Why are there so many songs about rainbows?
That's part of what rainbows do.
Rainbows are memories, sweet dream reminders
What is it you'd like to do?
All of us watching and wishing we'd find it
I've noticed you're watching too
Someday you'll find it the rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers and you.

Life's like a movie, write your own ending
Keep believing, keep pretending
We've done just what we set out to do.
Thanks to the lovers, the dreamers and you.

Music Monday - Elton John's Daniel

Elton John is another one of my favourite singers. He gave a concert on Friday in Dunedin which I did not attend but I did see him in concert in the December of 2006 in Wellington and it was an awesome concert. An unforgettable experience.

So I thought I'd share one of my favourite Elton John song's this week - "Daniel"

"Daniel" also has a special meaning for me - quite different from the inspiration behind the writing of this song.

I was 16 years old when my older brother travelled on a plane to make a life in the US. I remember waving goodbye and the tears in my eyes. As we headed back home, this song played again and again in my head.

My brother always tells me there are 3 places in the world I must see before I die - New Zealand (been there, done that, tick in the box),  Jerusalem, and Barcelona (Spain). The latter two are definitely on my "places to see" list.

So here it is - Elton John's "Daniel". Dedicated to my wonderful brother who "has and still sees more than I" and for all his achievements is for my family a "star in the face of the sky" and someone I miss each time the red tail lights head back out of Wellington just like I missed him when the red tail lights headed back out of Mumbai those many years ago.

Have an awesome day

Lyrics
Daniel is traveling tonight on a plane
I can see the red tail lights heading for Spain
Oh and I can see Daniel waving goodbye
God it looks like Daniel, must be the clouds in my eyes

They say Spain is pretty, though I've never been
Well Daniel says it's the best place that he's ever seen
Oh and he should know, he's been there enough
Lord I miss Daniel, oh I miss him so much

Daniel my brother you are older than me
Do you still feel the pain of the scars that won't heal
Your eyes have died, but you see more than I
Daniel you're a star in the face of the sky

Daniel is traveling tonight on a plane
I can see the red tail lights heading for Spain
Oh and I can see Daniel waving goodbye
God it looks like Daniel, must be the clouds in my eyes
Oh God it looks like Daniel, must be the clouds in my eyes

These are a few of my Favourite Things

Colours Dekor is hosting a November linky, "My favourite things".

I thought it might be a fun one to do- something about myself for a change.

I will add that anything my kids make for me, I absolutely love but will exclude those from here as it's just too hard to choose and this post will then run forever.

So here are my other favourite things, in no particular order:

I love roses and this one is from my garden. check out my I love roses post.

I love Birthday Cakes and I enjoyed my kids birthday parties. I tried not to make them theme parties as I think the kids just enjoyed being with each other - a few games here and there, chippies and pizza, cartoons or a movie, and they had oodles of fun. The birthday cakes were always a surprise for the kids - they just loved the suspense and waited eagerly to see their cake. Here are some birthday cakes ...

(this one made by a friend - she makes awesome cakes)

I love Christmas trees and enjoy decorating them. Each year the kids buy an ornament each to hang on the tree and we try out different colours. Here is the Silver/White one. It was quite simple but looked stunning. I don't think the photo does it justice and as it was taken during the day, you can't see the lights.

My one and only feeble attempt at pottery painting, but I love this mug. My friend and I had a lovely morning together painting at The Swish Dish - it was so therapeutic and relaxing. Nice lunch afterwards was fun too.

Limiting this post to 5 favourite things, so here is the last one, my lovely camera (well a picture of the same model anyway). It travels with me everywhere. I've had it for 6 years now so it is well used and loved.

I really enjoyed this post. Hope you did too.
