Value and Vistas #atozchallenge #inthelockdown

In The Lockdown - Who do we Value?  Vistas make me happy

Vistas I look at everyday.
Each day you notice something different
Especially when the sun plays with the hills
And casts different shadows
Or lights up the landscape

Why do we place so much value on some people and very little on others?

How come our value is placed more on those who entertain us or are owners of or workers in large multi national companies, professionals or those in academia?

This pandemic has highlighted that the people we think of the least and place little or no value on have been our lifesavers. The cleaners, the rubbish collectors, supermarket staff and delivery people, courier person, the mail person, the people at the pharmacy, the medical centre staff, doctors, nurses, hospital staff, teachers, security guards, police force, civil defence people, the foodbanks, essential retail services, the nursing and rest home workers, the ordinary person helping others in need  - all of them have been essential to keep us going and in keeping us safe.

So how come we take them for granted?  All human beings should be regarded and treated equally.

I have stopped watching the Grammy awards, Oscars, Miss World / Universe etc.  They have no meaning for me and in my view are a collosal waste of money. Instead I want to see awards given to people for acts of kindness, for going the extra mile, for heroic deeds, for humanitarian services.

I hope this pandamic will change our perception of what is truly valuable.

Today I leave you with "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Midler. One of my favourite songs that I want to dedicate to our awesome essential workers.

It must have been cold there in my shadow
To never have sunlight on your face
You were content to let me shine, that's your way
You always walked a step behind

So I was the one with all the glory
While you were the one with al the strength
A beautiful face without a name for so long
A beautiful smile to hide the pain

It might have appeared to go unnoticed
But I've got it all here in my heart
I want you to know, I know the truth, of course I know it
I would be nothing without you

Did you ever know that you're my hero?
And everything I wish I could be
I can fly higher than an eagle
When you are the wind beneath my wings

Understanding and Using #atozchallenge #inthelockdown

In The Lockdown - Trying to Understand the pandemic and Using what's in the pantry

When there is no flour available and you run out of bread
Out comes the chappati flour!
I love chappatis but making them is another thing altogether.
However, making them together with my mum was fun.

I believe that there is a reason for everything. So I tried to understand why we are going through this difficult time. Of course anything I say is highly speculative but nevertheless here are my thoughts ...

Earth is a living, breathing entity just like us. It does not really belong to us though we claim it to be ours. We are just travellers spending some time on Earth.

Perhaps we are being reminded of that and that we need to learn to live together in harmony with her and all of Nature. We are perhaps called to ensure that we treat Earth and Nature with the respect and care that they deserve.

Perhaps the virus is showing us how it feels to destroy Nature's habitats and is highlighting our apathy to the atrocities done to other living things.

So while we are indoors, Nature and Earth are healing from the ravages inflicted on them by humans.

I think we should find a way to live in harmony and cooperation with Nature. We should learn to preserve and not destroy. Isn't that what we do with our possessions? So let's honour the need for Mother Earth do the same.

Today I leave you with the Earth Song by Michael Jackson. A sad reminder of what we've done to our Earth. Not one of my favourites, but pertinent (all the more) at this time.

What about sunrise
What about rain
What about all the things
That you said we were to gain

What about killng fields
Is there a time
What ablut all the things
That you said was yours and mine

Did you ever stop to notice
All the blood we've shed before
Did you ever stop this notice
This crying Earth this weeping shore

Takeaways and Timelapse #atozchallenge #inthelockdown

In The Lockdown - Takeaways from the pandemic and a Timelapse video

I love looking at timelapse videos so I thought I would try it out. Here is a short collection. You can also view this on my youtube channel (see link under video).

This was taken on my iphone and I used iMovie to stitch them all together.

Hope you enjoy it.

While the pandemic is a terrible occurance that has taken many lives, there are some takeaways from this.

Pollution has gone down significantly - air, water and noise.

The air just seems clearer, it's very quiet and I see lots of birds everywhere.  I also find we are suffering less from hayfever. Because I am not commuting to and from work, I feel a lot more relaxed even though I am working from home and I am quite busy.

This has to be a good thing and we should consider how we can return to "normal" but yet keep pollution levels down. Or at least give nature some days in the year to breathe. Perhaps once a month we could all do a lockdown day and make it a Nature's day.

Stayiing home has also gien me a chance to do the things I've neglected like blogging on the AtoZ. I've also started vlogging each day (keeping a diary of sorts) and that has been a challenge but also a lot of fun. I've also been enjoying my garden everyday and appreciating the flowers and plants in them.  And I've been playing around with photography like timelapse videos :)

If you are in lockdown, how are you spending your time?

Today I leave you with this beautiful song by John Denver, another one of my favourites. Annie's song truly connects me with Nature. It reminds me of the different aspects of Nature.

You fill up my senses
Like a night in a forest
Like the mountains in Springtime
Like a walk in the rain
Like a storm in the desert
Like a sleepy blue ocean ...
