My Life According to The Beatles #MondayMusings

The Doglady has a musical challenge and I thought I would play along as it sounded like a lot of fun. And it was.

I chose The Beatles as I thought I would definitely find a song for each question but it wasn't easy.

The Challenge:

"Using only song names from ONE ARTIST OR BAND, answer the following questions. Try not to use the band I used, or repeat a song title. (It’s a lot harder than you think!)  Publish as “My Life According to (BAND NAME)” and link back to this post".

Q and A
***********

Are you a male or female?
Lady Madonna

Describe yourself:
Child of Nature

How do you feel?:
I Feel Fine

Describe where you currently live:
Here There And Everywhere

If you could go anywhere, where would you go?
Across The Universe

Your favourite form of transportation:
Drive My Car

Your best friend is:
Another Girl

Your favourite colour is:
Yellow Submarine

What’s the weather like?
Here Comes The Sun

Favourite time of day:
A Hard Day's Night
(hmm day or night?)

If your life was a TV show, what would it be called?
Paperback Writer

What is life to you?
Magical Mystery Tour

Your relationships:
A Shot Of Rhythm and Blues

Your fear:
I Just Don't Understand

What is the best advice you have to give?
All Things Must Pass
(as in this too shall pass)

If you could change your name, you would change it to:
Dizzy Miss Lizzy
(Miss Elizabeth Bennett considered one of the most beloved characters in British literature. Jane Austen herself described Lizzy as "as delightful a creature as ever appeared in print."  - source Wikipedia)

Thought for the day:
All You Need Is Love

How you would like to die:
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
(interesting inspiration behind this song)

Your soul’s present condition:
It's Only Love

Your motto:
Let It Be

The Beatles were a great band and each of them were extremely talented but I think George Harrison wrote some of the best songs - My Sweet Lord, Something, While My Guitar Gently Weeps were some of those.

I tried to find a good Beatles version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps but couldn't find one so here is the version from Concert for George - a tribute to George Harrison on his first death anniversary. The first time I saw this I this video I almost thought he was on stage. His son looks just like him. Before the finale, McCartney relayed to the audience, "Olivia said that with Dhani up on stage, it looks like George stayed young and we all got old".

Eric Clapton (lead guitar and singer), Paul McCartney (piano/keyboard),
Ringo Starr (drums), Dhani Harrison (backing guitar)

What's your song?

I have the privilege of hosting this week's prompt for The Writer's Post

pic from Google search

I truly believe that the Universe communicates with us in many different ways.

I often get answers through a post on someone's blog or on facebook. But more often than not, I get these messages from songs.

And the one song that I always hear when I am troubled or need an answer is ... Let it be by The Beatles.

This song constantly inspires me and helps me move on in difficult times. I'm sure it has a spiritual meaning for me as it plays whenever I need to "Let it be"

About nine years ago, there was an incident at work that upset me hugely. It affected me so much that I could not concentrate on my work all day. I didn't know what to do or how to get myself back on track. I had a fantastic manager who dealt with the incident very promptly but still I couldn't get my mind off it.

That evening as I made my way home, the usual busker was singing at the railway station and as I passed him, the words "Let it be, let it be, let it be, oh let it be. Whisper words of wisdom, let it be" floated past. I had to smile, it was so apt and just what I needed to hear.

Another incident took place a couple of years ago. My project was going live and my team was having trouble installing the application. After spending a whole day trying to work it out, we decided to sleep on it. I was quite worried as this was a major and important implementation.

I did not sleep well that night but the next morning I woke up to the sound of music and the song - Let it Be - just what I needed to hear. We got the answers that day and managed to install it all successfully.

Often when the Universe needs me to let it be, the song just comes to mind. I have now learned that when things trouble me and I just can't get the answers immediately, the best thing I can do is to let it be. As the song says ... There will be an answer, let it be.

I have learned to have that faith and to trust that when the time is right, the answers will come. Fate or Destiny has a mind of it's own and all things happen in Divine timing. So in the meantime it's best to:

Go with the flow, be Zen, and Let it go (or Let it be) - my own and favourite mantra

So, do songs speak to you or do you have a song that has a special meaning for you?

Please share and link up on this blog hop.

Sharing "Let it be". Enjoy the song, it's one of my favourite and the lyrics are just great.

ABC Wednesday - I is for ...

I thought a lot about this prompt as there are so many songs that I would like to post: Il Mondo,  I'll Never Find Another You,  Isa Lei, I'll Meet You Halfway and many others.

In the end I chose ....

Imagine - John Lennon

I'm actually recycling a post I did nearly a year ago.

"Imagine" was written and sung by John Lennon himself and released in 1971.

In 2004 "Rolling Stone" ranked it 3rd in it's list of "500 Greatest Songs of All Time"

The main theme of the song was Lennon's message of giving peace a chance - imagining a world that lives in peace.

I didn't quite understand or appreciate it as a child, but now it definitely features on my top 20.

I think it's a very spiritual song.

My Bollywood choice this week is ...

It's The Time To Disco - from the movie Kal Ho Na Ho (2003)

starring Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan, and Shahrukh Khan

The music is conducted by Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa. The lyrics are by Javed Akhtar. The soundtrack became one of the most successful music albums of the year.

Check out some other entries at ABC Wednesday.

Wishing you a day when imagination runs wild or maybe it's the time to disco!  In other words, enjoy your day and have a blast.

Music Monday - Imagine

Last week was John Lennon's 31st death anniversary. So I thought I would share a John Lennon song. A song of peace which is very appropriate for this time of year.

"Imagine" was written and sung by John Lennon himself and released in 1971.

In 2004 "Rolling Stone" (US music magazine) ranked "Imagine" 3rd in it's list of "500 Greatest Songs of All Time".

The main theme of the song was Lennon's message of giving peace a chance - imagining a world that lives in peace.

Information taken from Wikipedia - Imagine

Here are some quotes from John Lennon that are quite thought provoking:
"Everybody's talking about peace, but nobody does anything about it in a peaceful way."
"Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King are great examples of fantastic nonviolents who died violently. I can never work that out. We're pacifists, but I'm not sure what it means when you're such a pacifist that you get shot. I can never understand that."
"You are all geniuses, and you are all beautiful. You don't need anyone to tell you who you are. You are what you are. Get out there and get peace, think peace, live peace, and breathe peace, and you'll get it as soon as you like."

So here is John Lennon singing "Imagine" at the 1972 Charity Concert at the Madison Square Garden

Here's wishing you all peace this season.

Lyrics
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace

You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world

You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will live as one

But back to this post ... My Song

My favourite band of all time is The Beatles and their post on facebook today is:

The Beatles recorded "I Want to Hold Your Hand" at Abbey Road on this day in 1963. It reached Number One in the USA and UK charts. Following the success of the single they performed it on the Ed Sullivan show to an estimated 73 million viewers on February 9th 1964.

This is really special as today is my birthday and this is one of my favourite songs. I have now claimed it as my song!

Listening to The Beatles and their songs, takes me back to a time when life was innocent and so much fun.

This song is dedicated to a very special friend who led me to the facebook page and to another, wherever he may be xoxo.

So here it is:
