UBC Day 24 - Five Question Friday

Day 24 of the Ultimate Blogging Challenge (I've fallen behind - will have to do an extra post on the weekend)

And here the questions for Five Question Friday

1. Do you embrace or dread snow/cold weather days?

I enjoy all the seasons so I don't dread the cold weather days. I like the cooler weather anyway.

2. Which game show or reality show could you totally win?

I have absolutely no idea. Perhaps a quiz show where the questions are provided in advance!

3. What is your preferred climate?

Temperate - not too hot and not too cold.

4. What do you buy every time you walk into the grocery store, no matter what?

Probably bread.

5. If you see a spider/bug in the house, are you brave enough to kill it, or do you call for your hubby?

As I don't have a hubby I have to do it myself. A nice strong slipper and forgiveness from God for destroying one of his creatures does it for me.

Join in the fun and share your answers.

Enjoy your weekend.

UBC Day 20 - Five Question Friday

Day 20 of the Ultimate Blogging Challenge and Five Question Friday (even though it's Sunday here in NZ)

So here are the questions and my answers

1. If you were going to be stuck on a deserted island, which 5 books, movies, people and foods would you take along?

4 questions in one and very strange  - would we have the luxury of carrying this if were going to be stuck on a deserted island and why would I be stuck on one by choice?

Books
  • The Bhagawad Gita (my spiritual bible)
  • The Tao of Pooh (I can read this over and over again)
  • Way of the Peaceful Warrior - Dan Millman - a book that is truly inspirational
  • The Prophet - by Khalil Gibran - my favourite book of all time
  • Survival guide on a deserted island.

Movies - these would have to be feel good movies
  • If It's Tuesday This Must Be Belgium
  • The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
  • Pride and Prejudice
  • Nights in Rodhanthe
  • Serendipity

People - I would never subject any of my near and dear ones to the uncertainty and stress of being on a deserted island (none of us are that adventurous). So I hope that these are the people who are with me:
  • A person who knows how to survive on deserted islands
  • A person who can motivate and uplift
  • A person who can build a shelter
  • A person who can navigate the seas
  • A person who loves me and cares for me and will take care of me

Foods - I will assume that eventually we would find food around the island - some fruits, fish, coconuts etc and have the ability to do some basic cooking
  • Canned baked beans
  • Protein bars
  • Rice
  • Lentils
  • Drinking Water - not technically food but important nevertheless

2. What is your thought on year round school?

We all need time to chill and relax to "recharge our batteries" so why would we subject children to year round school?  Kids need time to play as these are the times when they fuel their imagination without the stress of school work and time to spend with their families without rushing around. The New Zealand school system has 4 terms with 2 week breaks between each term and approximately 7 weeks at the end of term 4 (end of school year). I think it works well for the kids.

3. What is your most embarrassing potty story? (Can't be one of your kids' potty stories either!)

There are a few, but these are best kept within the family so will pass on this one. In any case my kids are all grown and there are none to share there.

4. What's the temperature where you are?

19 Celsius = 66 Fahrenheit.  It's a hot Summer's day.

5. Are you a winter/spring/fall/summer person?

I love each season. Here in Welly, we often have all 4 in one day - it can even hail in Summer. The only things I don't like are gale force winds and heavy rain on a windy and cold cold day.

Please join in and share your answers. Thanks.

UBC Day 12 - Five Question Friday

Day 12 of the Ultimate Blogging Challenge

and a day late for Five Question Friday but better late than never.

So here are the questions this week

1. Flu mist? Flu shot? Or take your chances?

I take the flu shot every alternate year. Do they work? I don't really know. But I know vitamin C works! Or perhaps both have the placebo effect.

2. Do your kids have iPads? What are some good educational apps? Price?

My kids are all grown so yes they do have iPads.

But they learn a whole lot more by reading books. My son loves the atlas so I got him the latest edition of the Collins Atlas for Christmas. We spend each evening quizzing. He asks me questions from the facts sections on each page and I try to answer rather than the other way around. It serves 2 purposes. He reads and feels like he's in charge rather than the other way around. And we both learn something new everyday.

It's also a great way to connect with him and spend time with him. These are the moments of my day that I love the most.

When he was young we used the Reader Rabbit series on CD and he loved that. He also learned a lot.  When he outgrew them I passed them onto my friend for her kids and they loved it too.  They are available for the iPad.

3. What are your favorite boy/girl baby names?

Girls - Ritika,  Shambhavi,  Meera

Boys - Jay, Ishaan, Rajeev

4. If an apple a day keeps the doctor away, which apple do you choose to eat? (red/green, gala, red delicious...)

My favourite - Pacific Rose

5. What is your favorite place to escape to for peace & quiet, to think? Why?

The shower. The water running down is very therapeutic, refreshing, cleansing, and relaxing. It's like washing away everything and starting with a new, blank page.

Watching the hills and the birds in my garden also bring me peace.  One has to be quiet and still so that the birds don't fly away.

Or I walk around barefoot in my garden. It's a great way to connect with nature.

And if I can't find a place or if these don't bring me peace, then music is my haven. Listening to devotional music is very meditative, very peaceful.

Have a peaceful day.

UBC Day 5 - Five Question Friday

Day 5 of the Ultimate Blogging Challenge

I thought it might be fun to do something different so this is my first post for Five Question Friday - thanks to Cheri at Idle Chatter

The 5 questions this week (and my answers) are:

1. Have you set any goals/resolutions for 2013?

This was my UBC Day 1 post -  this year I will make no resolution and set no intentional wishes, I will simply go with the flow, I will hope that I will have many moments of bliss with Him (you'll need to read my day 1 post to get some context for this), I will enjoy life as much as I can.

2. Have you made any travel/vacation plans for 2013?

I hope I will travel this year but again I will go with the flow.  My mother plans to visit my brother in the US so maybe I will go with her and take my kids along too or I might visit my relatives and friends in India or I will go to an entirely different country - that is, where the flow takes me.

3. What room is never cleaned in your house?

As the question is "never", the answer is none - at some point in time even the most neglected room in the house gets cleaned. At least the floor gets vacuumed each week even if the other stuff around the room doesn't. And that reminds me that I truly need to de-clutter if I expect abundance to flow.  Off to clean shortly.

4. What food must be in your house at all times?

This is a hard one to answer but having thought about this I think my list would be: milk, bread, cereal, fruit. I think that would get us by till the next grocery run. However as NZ is earthquake prone, we have an emergency supplies box that consists of canned food, carton milk and some energy food like muesli bars etc. I pray we never have to use it.

5. Are you a hugger or more of a hands off person?

Definitely a hugger but only with family and friends.

"A hug is like a boomerang - you get it back right away" ~ Bil Keane

Please join in the fun and share your answers.

Wish you all a fun-filled day and sending you all a virtual (((hug)))
