Food for the soul

is that which brings me peace and joy, makes my spirit dance. And of all the things that I thought of music stood out head and shoulders above the rest.

I love listening to instrumental music. It's so relaxing and soothing. My favourites are violins, piano and flutes.

Music also helps me meditate, particularly the flute. There is something hauntingly beautiful about the sound of the flute. It's melody is mesmerising.

There are days when I know my soul cries out for it. I think it's when Spirit wants to connect with me.

Music is definitely food for my soul.

Earthquake

Written for ABC Wednesday

The letter E proved to be a difficult one, my mind was just blank until a few minutes ago, I suddenly thought about Earthquake.

Wellington has been having a few strong shakes in the last month. The first big one was on the 21st July with several strong aftershocks and then another big one this afternoon at 2.30pm 6.6 on the richter scale and the aftershocks keep coming.

I never moved so fast in my life to get under the desk. Drop, cover, hold. I never thought I would feel safe under a table, but strangely I did. I guess when it's shaking so hard, anything helps. It probably shook for a short time but it felt like forever.

Nerves are really rattled and everyone is jumpy. Our office shut down for the day as did pretty much every one elses. Buildings were evacuated, trains were stopped, airport closed, people and cars everywhere, buses jam packed, phones jammed - chaos in the city.

Normally takes 20 minutes max for me to get home. Took me 3 hours today!

6.6 might seem like not very big but it's very deceptive especially if it's a shallow one and you are close to the epicentre and trust me, it shakes and rolls! And it is very scary.

If you wonder why I wrote about an earthquake ... it's very therapeutic and writing helps overcome the nerves.

Here's my post on the July earthquakes on my blog Photos are Fun.

I am thankful we all got home safely today.

Enjoy your day and I hope it's an earthquake free one.

Dear Friend

Written for The Write Tribe Unsent Letters - a letter to a best friend  and also for the letter D at ABC Wednesday.
Linking to: Indiblogeshwaris That Tuesday Thingy - Friends

Dear Friend

I hope all is well in your world. Time has dashed by so fast. It seems like only yesterday we were sitting together in class listening to the droning sound of the teacher's voice. Those were happy carefree days full of dreams.

Life has thrown many challenges and demands our way. In my difficult moments I think of you and draw strength from you even though you are far away from me. I hope you can do the same.

There are so many memories that bring a smile to my face, but I think one of my fondest is listening to your Portrait of Donny record over the phone. My dad always wondered why those phone calls were so long! I kept him guessing :)

I think of you often. And though our lives haven't been quite the dreams we wanted them to be, I hope that it has been by and large fulfilling for you.

Sending many good wishes your way - that you find peace even in distressing and testing times, that you find strength to overcome difficulties and hurdles, that each dilemma you face has a solution, that each disappointment in life is overturned by a success, that each despair is compensated with some moment of joy, but most of all that you always feel that divine love no matter what the situation is.

Sending you tons of love and hugs.

Cherished Love

is my choice for C this week for ABC Wednesday.

And the choice stems from Write Tribe's prompt of 55 Fiction. This is my first attempt at 55 Fiction and I found it hugely challenging.

Calm and composed, she gazed at the clouds.
Confusion and turmoil carefully masked.
Crushing pain tearing her heart apart.
Crying was futile. He was gone, a charismatic young life cruelly snuffed out. "Why?" she silently lamented.
Closing her eyes she saw his captivating smile, felt his comforting arms. Memories bringing her joy.
Love cherished forever.

Have a cool day.
