GBE2 - Truth

"This above all to thine own self be true" ~ William Shakespeare

This was a favourite saying of my dad's so in honouring Shakespeare and my dad ...

The truth is that I've been completely negligent of this wonderful "your blog is great" award that was given to my blog by Kate at Mommy Growing Up

Thanks so much for the award Kate. I am so honoured to receive it.

And here it is.

To accept this award I must:
1.  Tell 7 things about myself
2.  Pass the award onto to 15 others.

So here are 7 things about myself:

1.  I love desserts
2.  I am caffeine sensitive - that means I can't have anything that has high levels of caffeine.
     (probably a good thing)
3.  Suzy was a nickname I had in school that I now use for my blogs.
4.  I love Indian, Chinese and Italian food
5.  I love puzzles particularly number and logic puzzles
6.  I would love to visit Rome again
7.  I collect trinket boxes. (my collection some of it anyway)

And if you would like to know 7 other things about me check out my post on my Photos are Fun blog.

And keeping in with the truth - I struggle to find 15 blogs as I have already awarded most of the blogs I follow other awards but I'll try and award some anyway. Here are blogs I enjoy reading in no particular order:

Word Nerd Speaks
World Heritage Site
Dawn Treader's Picture Book
MillerWrites
The Paddock
Thoughts of Beauty in the Stillness of Dawn

Please check out these blogs as they are great!

And as I start following more blogs, I'll update this list and get to the magic number of 15.

To those I've awarded, please accept this award and if you can award others, please do so, but you don't have to.

Music Monday - The Rainbow Connection

The Rainbow Connection, made famous by Kermit The Frog,  is a very lovely and thought provoking song that is sung beautifully by Karen Carpenter.  She had such an amazing voice.

I often tried to find the meaning of  the "Rainbow Connection" and finally decided that it is anything you want it to be.

I think at different times of my life The Rainbow Connection for me means different things ...  connection with spirit and soul, a love connection, connections with family-friends-people, the meaning of life, my life's work, guidance, messages, answers to questions, memories, dreams ...

I thought I would share The Rainbow Connection with all of you today as we are so close to Christmas and so many wishes and dreams are being planned and hoped for

So here is Karen Carpenter's version:

And here is the finale of the song from the Muppets Movie (the first 2.5mins).
This version really summed it up for me.

So here's hoping and wishing that today or someday soon you will find all your "Rainbow Connections".

Lyrics
Why are there so many songs about rainbows and what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions, and rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it. I know they're wrong wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection. The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Who said that wishes would be heard and answered when wished on the morning star?
Someone thought of that and someone believed it. Look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing and what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection. The lovers, the dreamers and me.

All of us under its spell. We know that it's probably magic.
Have you been half asleep, and have you heard voices? I've heard them calling my name.
Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors? The voice might be one and the same.
I've heard it too many times to ignore it. It's something that I'm supposed to be.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers and me.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers and me.

Muppets Finale lyrics
Why are there so many songs about rainbows?
That's part of what rainbows do.
Rainbows are memories, sweet dream reminders
What is it you'd like to do?
All of us watching and wishing we'd find it
I've noticed you're watching too
Someday you'll find it the rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers and you.

Life's like a movie, write your own ending
Keep believing, keep pretending
We've done just what we set out to do.
Thanks to the lovers, the dreamers and you.

I Love Quotes - Innocence

This week's theme on the Thursday Writers Post is "Innocence"

How do you convey innocence?  I thought I would do that through quotes, stories and pictures on children as I think they truly encapsulate the meaning of innocence.

So here are some quotes I found that I thought convey that childlike innocence:
“In their innocence, very young children know themselves to be light and love. If we will allow them, they can teach us to see ourselves the same way. ”  ~ Michael Jackson
“No matter what happens, always keep your childhood innocence. It's the most important thing.”  ~Federico Fellini
“The child's naive dream of life is the only one worth having.”  ~ Marty Rubin

Some years ago when my son was very young, we were watching Mary Poppins just a few days before my daughter's birthday. She was not a very tidy kid and her room looked more like a war zone than a bedroom. My son suddenly turned to me and said, "I think we should get Mary Poppins (as in the person not the movie)  for her birthday". Thankfully she grew up to be a fairly tidy person.

When my daughter was in primary school, she handed me a letter from the school one day. The student's name read: firstname Aurora lastname. I told her we would have to write to the school and tell them they had made a mistake but she looked at me and said "Everyone has a middle name except me. So I told them mine was Aurora". She had named herself after Princess Aurora in the Sleeping Beauty.

And these are moments I will never forget.

Enjoy your day.
