Take Me Home #SoCS #FridayReflections

There are many places that we are drawn to and while there are many spiritual places on Earth, these I believe are our personal spiritual or sacred places. The places that make us feel we've come home.

The mountains have always fascinated me. I think they are the most spiritual places on Earth. The mountains feel like home particularly the Himalayas. I remember the first time I saw them as a child of 11. It was a breathtaking moment never to be forgotten. My dream is to have a Himalayan Adventure - take a flight across the Himalayas, Seeing mountains from up high is breathtaking - the Rocky Mountains and  the New Zealand Southern Alps were spectacular.

Another place I am very drawn to is Hawaii. Not the commercial beachy stuff but the spiritual side of Hawaii. For a long time I've wanted to attend a spiritual retreat but couldn't put my finger on where. I feel that place is Hawaii.

Who knows why there are things we have a strong desire for.  And who knows why we are drawn to these places. Perhaps we've lived a life there or perhaps they are places where certain major events of our life are meant to take place.

I can't wait for the day when I will attend my first spiritual retreat in Hawaii and then I will look forward to visiting Dharamsala the home of the Dalai Lama in the foothills of the Himalayas in India. These and many other places that I would like to see someday, I know will feel like home.

So in the words of a John Denver song, "Take me home, country roads".

Cats?

Cats and me don't go well together. I was in my early teens when my neighbour bought 2 Siamese cats. One was friendly and the other wasn't. At least I thought so. Unfortunately I could never tell them apart and in one of my endeavours to be friendly I chose the wrong cat. Ever since then cats have definitely not been my best friends or on my Christmas card list. I am always on edge when there's a cat around.

So you can imagine how stunned I was when someone once said to me that they could sense that I am a cat person. I didn't want to be rude so I chose to remain silent. But I've often thought about this and wondered why she thought I was a cat person.

Then some days ago while watching a documentary on the big cats I realised that I actually loved the big cats, tigers and lions in particular. As a kid I loved the tigers and lions at the circus. I hated the whips they used on them but I loved looking at them. And at the zoo again lions and tigers were my favourites.

Oh and students from the school I went to are known as "Cats".

So perhaps  I am a cat person after all. Perhaps I've been a cat person all along, just not the pussy cat kind.

Are you a cat person?
