Have you ever ... #vlog #chaiwithsuzy #SuzysIlation

Have you ever thought about your retirement?

Does it scare you or are you excited about it?  I have mixed feelings -somedays it's scary and somedays I look forward to it.

Lately, as I get closer to 60, I've been thinking about it a fair bit so grab a cuppa and chat with me about retirement.

on my youtube channel: https://youtu.be/7Q7G6FkyEYg

I hope you enjoyed my vlog and that perhaps if you find the thought of retirement scary, my chat has alleviated some of that anxiety. Share your thoughts on retirement in the comments below.

  1. Retirement is a small pause for the life to shift gears, is what my feeling about it. You have set the goals, Suzi, for many like me who had not given it a thought about eminent eventuality.
Going by the video you have shared, I can see that you will have ever busier life than today, post your retirement!
Please take a bow Suzi... for you are a great artist! Keep us inspiring with your unique ways.

    1. Thanks Anagha. I like the way you define retirement - a shifting of gears.

  2. Great to dream and plan. I am well into retirement now and did many of what you mention ...with the exception of selling anything. I think what I have learned is to give things a go and if they do not suit you, move on.

Thank you for linking up for #LifeThisWeek. The optional prompt next is: 39/52. Last Thing I Bought. 24/9/18. Denyse

    1. Thanks Denyse. I agree, one has to give thing a go and evaluate from there. My idea of an Etsy shop really was to do have something of my own. Let's see how it goes.

  3. Oh, I'm sure it's scary, Suzy. But I'm sure you'll find a way to fill it with your many creative pursuits.
PS: I can't hear your voice clearly on the video. :(

    1. Sorry you couldn't hear clearly. Are you using headphones or the computer speakers? It's very loud on my computer so it's hard to tell how the sound behaves on other computers.

    2. Computer speakers, Suzy. Perhaps I'll try the headphones.

    3. Thanks Corinne. Computer speakers seem to lower the sound. Let me know if the headphones are better. Thanks

  4. I love the idea of sliding gradually into retirement Suzy, I'd just like it to begin sooner rather than later. But for now I'm learning to be patient with the fact that we still need my income!!!

    1. Thanks Sue. Yep, I'd like it to be sooner too but I can't see that happening for a while unless I win the big Lotto :)

  5. All I know is I'm going somewhere warm. And it will be gradual. A move north (Aussie north) and working at a lesser pace. Then from there ... who knows? Maybe I will never truly retire. I can't imagine not doing something. Yet. #teamlovinlife

    1. Hi Leanne. I can't imagine not doing anything. That would be scary!

  6. Hey Suzy, since I've never really 'worked' in a regular manner, it would seem that I am already living a retired life right from the day I grew up! Honestly though, you have some really good ideas about living a healthy and meaningful life after retirement! I am sure you will fulfill them

  7. I am actually past retirement age in the United States but a lot of people work past retirement age. A lot of my short term plans are simmilar to yours, except for the arts aspect. By the way, when my best friend had cancer, I found good encouragement cards were hard to find. I wanted something acknowledging her prognosis was serious (she knew from the start she would most likely not survive, and sadly, that proved to be true) but not yelling out "you are not going to survive because this is the card people send you when you are going to die soon!" I don't mean to be flippant, but you would do many a great service if you could come up with a "good" line of cards for that type situation.

    1. I am so sorry for your loss. Good friends are hard to come by and to lose one would be devastating. Thanks so much for your suggestion - I will definitely take that on board.

  8. I have along way to go before I retire. I don't know what I would do, but there would be loads of catching up on things I don't have time for now, like reading, crafting, blogging, and sleeping lol.

    1. Hi Alicia. Yep your loads of catching up would definitely keep you occupied - and that I guess is the key to retirement - doing things we love to do.

  9. I think about retirement and I want to be financially independent when I retire. So I usually think about where will income come from? I liked your vlog :)

    1. Thanks Parul. Glad you liked it. I think that financial independence is at the forefront of our minds. I think about that too :)

  10. I don’t plan to retire and it doesn’t scare me. I’ll of course save up a little space as to act as a cushion in old age, but I hope to work till the day I die :)

    1. Good plan Damyanti - one I had too but as I get closer to that age, the idea of retirement appeals more and more!
