Update - my post was chosen as the featured post. Thank you Write Tribe
picture prompt at the Write Tribe.
Myra stood rivetted at the scene in front of her. There was something vaguely familiar which perplexed her as she had never been here before. Perhaps she had seen a picture somewhere or perhaps her mind was imagining this was familiar as she held the brochure in her hand. The tour guide was explaining something so Myra turned her attention to him. But that nagging familiar feeling would not leave her.
Mirabai sat on the steps of the temple with tambura (musical instrument) in hand. She had dedicated her life to her beloved Lord Krishna. She would sing devotional songs to Him. People came from near and far to listen. Her poetic verses and the soothing sound of her tambura would put people into a trance like state. There was a feeling of divinity associated with her. The people felt the presence of the Great Spirit when Mirabai sang.
"This was the temple dedicated to Lord Krishna where Mirabai would sing her devotional songs" said the tour guide. "It is said that one day Mirabai walked into the temple and disappeared" he explained. "The people believe that the Lord Himself came to take her. All they found was her tambura at the feet of the idol of Lord Krishna" he continued.
Myra felt a chill go up her spine. As they turned to leave, Myra heard the faint sound of the tambura. "Did you hear that" she asked her friend. "Not dreaming again are you Myra", her friend teased. Myra was silent, but the sound of the tambura filled her ears. "I need a sign" she prayed silently.
The little boy tugged at her skirt, a peacock feather in hand. He held it out to her. "10 paise" he said quietly. As she handed him the coin, the little boy grinned. "The tambura is blissful is it not?" he whispered.

Sometimes prompts just fire up the imagination. Both prompts did that and got the thoughts flowing.

Wow! That was a nice story. Sometimes we feel a sense of deja vu isn't it?
ReplyDeleteThanks Reema. Yes so often we feel something is familiar and there is no explanation for that. Glad you liked my story.
DeleteA feeling of a past life? I think many of us have had these moments, but discard them-refuse to believe. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteThanks Alana. That is what I was trying to convey :)
DeleteAww.. this is lovely. Hopeful as well as informative. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Roshan. Glad you liked it.
DeleteWhen I was 4, long before I heard of "reincarnation," I told my grandmother that I wanted her to come back as my granddaughter, so I could spoil her as she spoiled me. She was stunned. She believed in it. I have no grandchildren, yet, but would not be surprised to have one, some day, just like her.
ReplyDeleteI think as children we know a lot more about spirituality than we do as adults. Thanks for dropping by Holly.
DeleteWe haven't had it beaten out of us, yet, when we're children. I was lucky to grow up in a church with a pastor who didn't necessarily agree with my spiritual observations, but found them intriguing and was willing to talk to me as if I were a mature, thinking human being and not just dismiss me for being a child.
DeleteCongratulations on being Featured this week! :)
Thanks Holly. Congratulations to you too. We share the feature this week :)

ReplyDeleteA sign is all that we want...
Thanks Ruchira. We do need those signs. Glad you liked my story.
DeleteI really enjoyed reading your story. There are some things we can't explain with logic and you really conveyed that.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ness. Somethings are just a matter of faith. Glad you liked my story.
DeleteIts that queer feeling...of somthing that has happened before. And do we have explations to it??? nope and nor does science actually
ReplyDeleteThanks Me. So true some things just cannot be explained and yet they exist. One of the mysteries of the Universe.
DeleteBeautiful story Suzy. I have been fascinated by the stories of past life. There are so many things that still remains a mystery.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rajlakshmi. Past lives intrigues me as well but the mystery keeps the interest alive. :)
DeleteI took this picture of a temple in Mahabaleshwar which is in the old part of the town and the start of the river Krishna. The entire place was so rich with historical significance that was so palpable, but which has sadly not really recorded. I love how your story brought that out, Suzy.
ReplyDeleteThanks Corinne. Your picture is beautiful. Old temples fascinate me. I always wonder what stories they hold. Glad you liked mine.
