Birthday Cards ... #writebravely #WriteTribeProBlogger #FridayReflections

It was only a few years ago that I would receive so many cards on my birthday from family and friends around the world.

Now I get txt messages, whatsapp messages, facebook messges. I am grateful that I receive so many wishes, blessings, and greetings on my birthday. But I miss the cards. There is something about holding a card from someone who took the time and effort and sent or gave it with love.

So since last year I have started making birthday cards for family and friends. I get a lot of pleasure out of it and it keeps my creative juices flowing.

Here are cards I received this year on my birthday from my dearest loved ones. These are so special for me.

And here's a card I made for my daughter for hers. Still haven't completed one for my mother (tomorrow's task) and then I'll start on all the November birthdays. I love making cards. Even when I was little I was always making things - cards, little notebooks, art work.

  1. I love that you do this. I feel sad too at some level... in college, I was the guy who would always have a birthday card ready for everyone. Always with personalized messages. Somehow, things changed. Now it has been years since I've given a card..

  2. Ah! The good old greeting cards. They have certainly vanished from our lives now. At one point of time, we used to exchange greeting cards for each and every occasion. It's so fantastic that you are re-kindling this lovely old tradition and that you are creating them yourself adds that special personal touch!

  3. these cards are simply amazing..and I completely agreed with you, nowadays social media has taken away the pleasure of those sweet tiny moments and that special personal touch in our lives. I also love to make cards especially for my daughters on their birthdays. I think it is the best way to share your emotions for your dear ones.

  4. Although social media is great for many things but this one thing even I miss. I would still love a handwritten or handmade greeting than an online message. The personal touch in a greeting cannot be found in the whatsapp messages or otherwise.

  7. I love physical cards and was still sending it to my family until last year. This year got a bit crazy and I haven't sent anyone cards but I hope to do so again next year.

  8. I think social media has taken away that touch, but then again, I suppose as long as we can sift the genuine from the not-so-genuine, it'll be a boon.
Belated Happy Birthday Suzy. Hope you have an amazing year ahead.

  10. You are right Suzy. Social media has taken away the personal touch and has made us a wee bit lazy. Nothing can rival the joy of receiving a physical card on one's important dates and festivals.
