UBC Day 3 My Younger Self Is Delighted

Day 3 Ultimate Blogging Challenge

Inspired by Oprah's 11 Things A Woman Should Write Down Before The Year Ends and having read some awesome posts by some bloggers I thought I would do my own.

But I thought I'd do it a bit differently and dedicate a post to each question.

So here is Question 1:

What Younger You Would Like About Present You

What would make 14-year-old you delighted, if not disbelieving?

I think my 14-year-old-me would probably be delighted to know that I am happy with myself just the way I am.

I was an awkward, chubby, shy, quiet, timid 14 year old. I was teased about my weight and called all kinds of fairly cruel names. Over the years I lost a lot of weight, gained it back, lost it again, gained it back and it went backwards and forwards.

But in 2013 I had my aha moment - The Gods love me chubby and take every opportunity they find to sabotage my efforts to get slim.  I exercise, I eat healthy but the Gods want me chubby. So here I am chubby and at ease with that.

I can see my 14-year-old-me grin from ear to ear and I can hear the Gods sing:

"Don't go changing to try and please us, you've never let us down before ... We love you just the way you are" ~ adapted from Billy Joel's Just the way you are.

Have a happy day.

  1. The key to staying healthy is to eat healthy and exercise, and as your post clearly mentions you do both of these things, and you therefore are on the healthy track. Am more than sure the younger you would be more than proud of you of what you are today, irrespective of how much you weigh or how you look.

    1. Thanks Jairam. I'm sure it would be too. It was a tough time for a 14 yr old.

  2. Yeah, that a nice way to have broken down the 11 things. ANd I am sure the future posts will also serve as much interesting as this one.

With the weight issue. I have been struggling with this all my life, since I was a chubby girl myself...and thanks to the gene pool, I still am :) So...

  3. What an interesting thought? What would my 14 year old self like about me now? I will have to give this some thought now.

I'm glad that you came to realize that you are fine how you are.

    :-)

    Thanks,

    Kathy

    1. Thanks Kathy. Oprah's 11 questions are truly interesting and thought provoking. I'll be blogging on each of them in the next few days.

  4. Ha! Ha! In my case it is just the reverse. I was always thin in fact people used to compare me with a pencil. But in the later part of 40s I put on a bit of weight.

    Lovely post Suzy.

    1. Thanks Geeta. How interesting that you were teased for being thin. Human beings are never satisfied with the way they are.

  5. Beautifully put Suzy. As long as you eat healthy with the occasional indulgence, weight is just a number. And round is just a shape :)

  6. I loved your idea of breaking these 11 questions into 11 posts!! Innovative thinking,Suzy. There's nothing like making peace with the things that are beyond our control. Yes, God loves the fat me too (I am not chubby)! :P :)

    1. Thanks Shilpa. Thought I would do one post and then with UBC came along. Doing it this way takes me to day 13! You are not fat Shilpa. And yes God loves us all - if only we remember that when we go nuts trying to get thin.

  8. I think my 14 year old self would be surprised that I'm a SAHM, and maybe that I even have kids. I'm not sure but I think at 14 I didn't want kids ever :)

  9. Wow... thats such a sweet post Suzy. My 14 year self would be in complete awe of myself right now... I would have never thought I would be THIS :)

I was a timid, scared and a bullied child all throughout school and college. Today I know how to stand up for myself and yes it makes a lot of difference to life the moment you change your attitude.<3

    Hugs!

    1. Thanks Privy. I think our 14 year selves would be very pleased with the way we've turned out. Standing up for ourselves is a hard thing to do and a difficult one to learn. Good to hear you have learned that. Love and hugs.

    1. Thanks Richa. Taken me half my life to let that go. We have this notion that we look nicer when we are slim but actually it's our inner beauty that shines through - thin or fat. <3

  12. I think that is half the battle...feeling at peace with yourself just the way you are. I am about in the same frame of mind you are on this topic. ♥
