UBC Day 12 Failure

Day 12  Ultimate Blogging Challenge

Oprah's 10th Question

My Favourite Failure

Alright, now that we've covered the good stuff, let's talk about the biggest, most glorious, crashing-in-flames failure in your life.

Oprah asks the toughest questions. Had to think a lot about this but finally came up with this  ...

There have been several incidents in my working life, where people have verbally abused and insulted me. At those times, I was incredibly hurt and upset and broke down in tears. Thank goodness for some great managers who took the miscreants to task.

But for me these are personal failures and collectively my favourite failure. Why? because after the 5th time that occurred, I did a lot of soul searching and through that it aroused something in me that has now made me stand tall and strong. I feel the power within me to stay Stop.

I'm a firm believer that the Universe presents the situation again and again until the lesson is learned. It was time to show that while I look soft and gentle, I am made of tough stuff and won't let you walk all over me.

Knowing where to draw the line and say enough is enough and taking a stand for myself is a lesson I learned well, albeit the hard way.

May this be your day to shine.

  1. Some wonderful learnings here, Suzy. It is true that every failure has a built in mechanism to auto correct and reprograms us for success. Therefore, as you rightly mentioned failures are just a way of programming us to improved success. We only need to activate the auto correct mechanism and give it all we have got for it to work successfully.

  2. Absolutely agree that we are faced with the same challenge again and again till we learn our lesson. And its great that your mistakes made some soul searching possible and you managed to identify your strength.

    1. Thanks Kajal. When we look back and "join the dots" we see patterns emerging and when we analyse them we find many answers. At least that's what I do.

  3. I love the quote! Stuff like that would reduce me to tears too. I think situations taught me to be not only hurt but mad, gave me a back bone, and made me learn to stand up for myself and fight back. ♥

    1. Thanks Kathy - that's exactly what happened to me - my mind just went enough is enough and the fear just walked away. It's liberating when that happens.

  4. Great learnings Suzy. Yes, it sometimes takes a lot of falling over before we decide to stand up against the people or situations that cause us grief. Great inspirational post

  6. Interesting article. Most successful people have failed in order to learn lessons on how to be succesful.

  7. I agree with you about the universe presenting the situation again and again until you learn. The same thing happened to me at work with bullying. That taught me the difference between being polite enough to ignore a bad comment and making sure it wasn't repeated.

    1. Thanks Francene. That's exactly right - we do need to learn and discern which battles we're going to fight and which ones we're going to let go.

  8. And that's why they say failure is the mother of success! Indeed, we are reprogrammed for success by the times we stumble a little.

    1. Thanks Michelle. As they say - success is when we fall 7 times and rise up 8 times!
